She’s the champion of comedy right now and I think as long as she wants to do it .. she’s got it & from the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and that’s where I’m from…but seriously she’s a beast

jdean813 - we can't forget Ellen - she's been the queen of down-to-earth, relatable, non-vulgar, non-political, story-telling comedy!! If she's had her troubles lately, that's a shame, and I hope she comes back to the person she was - and hopefully still is underneath - but she's been dealing with no private life and the meaner public for a LOOOOONG time now! Maybe she needs a break in the worst way - but she's had me literally on the FLOOR crying real tears from laughter, telling her stories about every-day life!! She's so talented - let's root for her, even though we also appreciate the new comedians with her brand of comedy : Leanne... Rita ... Nate Bergatze ... they were probably all inspired by her!
@@BAfan-tt9zl Ellen started her stand-up career 4 or 5 years after Rita, so it is more likely the other way around. They were both very good straight away, but no comedian, male or female has better timing or subtler delivery than Rita
@@geoffoconnor3487 Thank you - I didn't know the timing. But they are all master story tellers, with great timing - simply hilarious without relying on shock factor or "edginess". I love them all!!

My husband and I saw Rita in Vegas several years ago and we both laughed through the whole show. Leanne is a stitch and is one of my favorite funny people. I'd love to see her in person.
I did the same during a family trip to Vegas when I was a teenager. She had her dog with her and it ran through the audience. I whined because I didn't want to go, but I'm glad my dad made me because I laughed all the way through her show.

I delivered some documents to Rita Rudner at her home in Beverly Hills when I was a studio driver in the mid-2000s. She seemed nice to me. She does have some good jokes.
@@nebur59 Yes, her jokes are usually VERY subtle - and some people probably don't even get them! And then some people probably just don't find subtle funny. But for those who do (like me!!) , she has some classically GREAT jokes! Brilliant!
I agree, recall her calling longtime friend Michael McC and Jill T. glad to have been in the1990s that gave us amazing performers. And the most wonderful comedic connections.

They are equal in my opinion. Leanne’s accent is great, and Rita pulls in some great zingers. I like that they are both reserved and don’t have to get to filthy to get a laugh. A pleasant experience to listen to either one.

Have you been all over the south? When I was young, I lived in WDC, which is heavily skewed southward, and there was a young woman who told me that when when a person says y’all, that signifies one person, and that when you’re talking about more than one person it’s all y’all. I never looked back with that one.
@@everwhat013I have seen her in person. She is from southern middle TN and most def does not exaggerate her accent. That’s just how we talk. I can’t stand to hear a fake southern accent. Hers is totally normal for someone raised in these parts.
Just listened to an interview on Fresh Air. LM said at one point when her career was not getting better, her husband suggested a voice coach. That people dismissed her as a hick. And LM said no, she’d rather be authentic and if people didn’t like her as she was, so be it.

Both of these women are powerful comics. And both WON, it's a tie.
I totally understood when Rita said she didn't want to look great from the back and then turned around and frightened people. I worked with a woman who was probably in her mid-60's but she was very slim and her hair was in a style like a young woman would wear and from the back she looked like a 20-something girl. THEN she would turn around and there were so many wrinkles in her face that it was absolutely shocking. She looked every day of her 60-plus years. The sad thing is that the youthful way she dressed and wore her hair looked great from the back but it made her look even older when you got a look at her face. I don't think anyone was ever rude enough to tell her and I guess she thought she looked great...and she did, until you saw her from the front. Rita nailed it.

I've watched Rita for years and have only recently found Leanne, and I think both are brilliant. Gotta give this to Leanne though. I feel that Leanne talks to a wider audience with her comedy, whereas I've always thought that Rita's appeals to a more specific audience. Thought that putting these two up to compare for a win was brilliant though!
