    The fact that the director later went on to make The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister and Doctor Strange is honestly quite inspiring when you think about it. Just because you have a bumpy start, doesn't mean it sets you up for life.

      It's honestly my favorite Hellraiser sequel. If you don't require a lot of cenobites and a lot of Pinhead in your Hellraisers, I think it's pretty good, and it works as psychological horror and gritty police procedural.

    • @walsh9080
      @walsh9080 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xxcrysad3000xx It's a bad sequel if you require the Hellraiser lore as part of the sequels though. The problem isn't screentime, it's that it doesn't fit the character or his MO. It'd be like a Nightmare on Elm Street movie that didn't feature Freddie killing people in nightmares but instead was a masked killer who performed home invasions. Even if it was good, its still not a Nightmare movie. Same thing here. The only "Not Hellraiser that was turned into a Hellraiser" sequel that even partially fits the lore is Deader.

People forget Thorne was already caught by cenobites at the beginning and they were just torturing him. they weren't hunting Thorne as they've already caught him. I actually enjoyed this movie since it made the cenobites hell interesting, before people thought hell in hellraiser was just a bdsm torture porn realm. Also it gave nuance to the phrase "demons to some, angels to others" from outside perspective it might seem that the cenobites are punishing Thorne for his sins but we know they are just torturing Thorne for their goal.

    When Scott Derrickson was on Kevin Smith's podcast he said Inferno not being a Hellraiser script is a misconception. He said that Bob Weinstein offered him to rewrite it as a bigger budget stand alone film (with a happier ending), but he refused because he didn't want to do that, and he also wanted to direct (which he might not have been able to do if it was a bigger budget film? not sure at this point). Anyway, this is my favorite Hellraiser movie after the original. I never liked the sequels full of more & more Cenobites as evil monsters, and this kind of takes it back to the basics. Yeah, it's derivative, but hey, it's a direct to video movie. And also looks a lot better than most dtv movies of that era.

      I like the film too as it's own thing, but it really isn't a Hellraiser story at all. Those who open the box have deep seated desires that summon the Cenobites. The Cenobites are not arbiters of morality who judge you for your sins, they are explorers of experience. Certain types of people seek them out...they aren't out to get you for your sinful life. Nothing in Inferno connects with what Hellraiser is aside from just having Pinhead appear for a few minutes.

    Like Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002) after it, "Inferno" was originally a non-Hellraiser related horror script owned by Dimension. To save money on writing a completely original Hellraiser story, the script was quickly edited to insert the Pinhead and the Cenobites.
    The special effects budget was only $50,000.
    Plot similarities to Leon Garfield's "The Ghost Downstairs".

    Drug cop would be amazing, like a version of iZombie that wasn't dependent on eating brains but on using crime scene drugs. Trippy visuals and the crapshoot of wondering whether the clues Unearthed through using substances could lead to proper deduction while under the influence of said substances.

    Thank you, Loyd! The only thing missing from your clip was having the corrupt cop from the movie your human is reviewing being in that very room behind the guy with the star on his shirt. I actually really enjoyed this film. It didn't hold up perfectly to age, but there were some really cool scenes. Like when he sees his mom in the chair. It always creeped me out how she told him to put his gun away and then you heard them get ripped apart after he walked out of the room.

    Sidenote; Rubix cubes can become a kind of lament configuration. It just takes a bunch of acid and the person who you bind to it may need to be drunk on moonshine (not sure if that's nescessary, but it's what happened)
