I’m sorry for the timing of a hard decision. Your kindness and openness is appreciated.
Wow, you really made a huge decision. Thank you for sharing this hard moment. I feel that this channel is so grass roots and believable. Not that I am also partial to all California transplants. I watch your channel because the family adventures, and you bring the real. Thank you.
Thank you so much! That's super encouraging!
Java was a sweet boy. He will definitely be missed. ❤
Audrey is going to be quite the farmer!! She rocks!
Thank you for sharing the tough times. People who want to become homesteaders/farmers need to know that it’s not all sunshine and roses. Having livestock means dealing with death and making hard decisions. It also means having to deal with lousy weather to tend to their needs. I grew up on a farm in Michigan, so I could just about feel how cold your hands were! I hope the snow has melted, and warmth has returned! We still have three more months of winter left here in Michigan!
You guys are troopers! And your still smiling!
Your doing a great job everything will work out😊
❤ you did the right thing. ❤
That's really a tough situation! thanks for sharing!
😢😢😢😢
These hard decisions are DEFINITELY not in the homestead brochure! Hugs to you all… so hard to make those decisions and equally hard to share. Thank you for being vulnerable and giving us all a taste of the reality of homesteading. 🙏
this was the worst cold winter we have had since 93 welcome to Eastern Tennessee. we were snowed in for a week as well.
I feel for you Amanda. Loss is hard, but you did the right thing. No sense in letting an animal suffer. You made this call out of kindness and love. I commend you. 🥲Hugs to you and David. Zanna
I'm so sorry about Java. I was a mess hearing about it. Thanks for sharing and much love to your family.
Ooufff that would have been a tough day for you guys. You definitely did the right thing for Rocket. RIP Rocket
Yes i wish we all had a DAVID❤❤❤
Sad to hear about your Java. It is always hard putting down on animal, whether it is a pet or livestock. We had to have our 14 year old cat put down a couple of months ago and she was a loved pet but she was suffering and the vet said there was no hope for her. Brighter days ahead.
I'm sorry for your loss, such a difficult decision. Sending condolences.
Amanda, I completely understand your decision to dispatch Java. I've been in a similar situation with our Shetland sheep and it's such a hard call to make. You made the right call. Farm life is sometimes heartbreaking but necessary. Hard calls are a part of it. On another note, buck goat is pretty good simmered in a crock pot all day with onions and garlic.
Be safe! I hate to see that flapping panel go flying!
You guys did the right thing. Hard on all of you. I'm so sorry. Harsh reality of Homesteading.
You did the right thing Amanda❤😢😢
Love to you all ❤
Texas and I heard we have one more coming at the end of February to March one more freeze
Good luck! Probably gonna get us here in TN too!
God bless you guys.
oh, you must be heart broken. It was brave of you to share. I would not be able to for quite a while. We know that there are some really tough calls in life. Very difficult to keep up in front of kids. Prayers for you all.
❤
DAVID LOOKS LIKE JASKN ALDEAN AND MY SON JEREMY.
My heart broke for you all when your Mom told me you had dispatched Java. Just broke again watching this. So sorry this had to happen. I hope his babies will be without pain.
Very tough but right choice. Am I right in thinking you had other kids sired by Java the previous year? What will you do with those now? Raise on as meat animals or could you get them 'fixed' and sell them as pets perhaps? I'm curious and I know others will be too.
Thank you for sharing your lives with us. As a housebound English woman I love to see life through others eyes. :)
So Java sired 6 babies last year: 5 boys and a girl. 4 of the boys are already "fixed" and living their best lives as pets. I sold one boy as a breeder and reached out to the owner about the issue and will replace him with a buckling out of my other buck. We still have his daughter, Amelia, and plan to likely sell her as a pet with very clear warning that she is NOT to be bred.
Do I'd luv to know how Audrey feels about butchering animals she's helped raise.
Weedemandreap dealt with this luckily not to the point that you have but penny had some terrible legs and had to be put down but not until she was 8 or 9 and of course stopped breeding the line. Is the goat meat more "funky" since he was a buck for so long or not bad?
Yes, she discontinued the line immediately.
Is the tractor roof removable?
It wasn't at the time. Frozen.
I can imagine how sad you are about Java. I have had to make those hard choices with pets. Sad to say, it it part of life.
The difference between a boy and a man is a boy takes more than he gives and a man gives more than he takes. This past time frame of sickness and hard decisions your husband showed his children that he is a man by giving more for all of you than he took. You should be very proud of him and it is good to hear a woman actually praise her husband publicly.
At the very least, you guys need gloves! Brrrrrr
