That’s a spooky cemetery in a spooky old town. Last summer I went to the Walmart on the sea wall to buy some fishing tackle. The place is supposedly haunted. Anyway, I was deciding what to buy and 10 feet to my right something pops off one of those metal rods they hang merchandise on and lands in the middle of the aisle. It was a little weird.
I love reading up on Galveston history, I was a little surprised that I didn't see any graves from 1900. I would figure being that the hurricane of 1900 killed upwards of 8,000 people there would be 1900 graves everywhere.
I learned because the state of the bodies and the hot weather of the Gulf Coast most of the bodies were piled up and burned and the afterwards buried in mass grave in multiple locations on the island.
Also as they where raising the island many small cemeteries where lost. Even the cemetery has layered graves with older graves lost. It is estimated there are about 12,000 buried in this cemetery throughout the almost 200 years of Galveston history.
I hope to go back and do a real video in the near future.
@@hinahanta That is amazing. The 1900 hurricane was incredibly devastating. So many people lost. No wonder there are so many stories of hauntings, etc. Outside war, I can’t think of another location in the US where so many people perished in a single event.
