Yea-a-a-a-a-a! Glad to see that you've recovered from your bike injuries Brother Shane and that you are back building projects and videoing! God's Blessings! Denny Grimes Phenix City, Alabama
I like to just grab the nails with some pliers and wiggle them up and down a few times until they break off... Lol... That bench needed an extra coat... Love the positive attitude. That crate turned out great. I really want to build some. Thanks for sharing.
Nice job. Went down to the barn and built one of these for my wife. Used some old fence wood to make it. She loved it! Who has not spilled some thing like poly in the shop....at least it was not a cold beer.
Thanks Russell. Now that would have been a disaster! :-) How about you take a photo or two and post it on my Facebook Page for all of us to have a look at? Here's the link just in case you want to. facebook.com/DiyForKnuckleheads?ref=h Cheers mate.
Thumbs up. Very neat! I like those metal casters. Spray some water (or if its raining out) leave them outside for a couple weeks so they can start to rust also. The handles blend in perfect! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ed. Good idea about the wheels. I was actually trying to find some old rusted wheels but l couldn't get my hands on any. Thanks for watching mate. Cheers
Hey G1...Thanks for that! Really appreciate the feedback and l hope you can stick around for more to come 👍😁🇦🇺🇦🇺 Give my regards to the good folk from Yorkshire 😁
Everybody makes mistakes but hardly anyone making videos show them. The only people that don't make a mistake are those who never do anything, this crate turned out great. Thanks for making and sharing.
Looks great Shane. Perfect paint job. It's kind of funny that you knocked over your poly. I actually knocked over what I had left of my tongue oil blend mixture tonight. Ticked me off to no end. Lol!
This is great, I would have rusted up the castors though for that final touch. Easy to make rusting solution at home, 20 mins and boom, looks like it was outside for years.
Thanks Nine90Group. I thought of doing that but l kind of wanted the look similar to that of a hotrod where they do up an old car and then put on some flash new wheels. Either or. Cheers mate
Your a mind reader! I was, this last week, contemplating a box to put in my vehicle to hold the incidental stuff: jumper cables, and other junk that makes its way into the back of the vehicle.. the cardboard box just is worn out. I may have to make something similar to yours! Fun video and Does anyone ever really "use" a whole can of finish before spilling it? :) Chris By the way nice rusty hammer! :) Been in use a while?! I like it!
Thanks Chris. The annoying thing was, was that l had a quarter of a tin floating around in the shed that l was hoping to use up but l couldn't find it so l had to open up a new tin that subsequently spilt all over the floor and table:-( About ten minutes after knocking over the tin, l found the old one…Oh well. I bought that hammer when l started my apprenticeship in 1988. It's an old faithful. Cheers mate
Good day from Ontario, Canada. I love your video's. I love to take apart pallets and make stuff. Right now I am making a rabbit hutch. Keep up the good work mate!
Uncle Knackers! As always, great video! In this video, you rip a pallet slat using a circular saw. New to this and would like to rip some pallet slats but can't buy a table saw. Please make a video explaining how to do this safely. You just make it look too easy!!
Thanks for watching Gaurav!! I wiil do a how to video on that in the future mate. The trick is to take your time, properly secure the piece you're cutting and keep your elbow of the arm that is controlling the tucked into your stomach to reduce the risk of injury in the event of kickback. Cheers mate :-)
Thanks for that Gerrard. Yeah it turned out pretty good. By the way l just saw the pictures of your table that you posted on my Facebook page. Well done. When l get time, l'll put them on my timeline so that everyone can check it out. Cheers mate
You are awesome mate! This is my 4th or 5th video I've watched of yours and you do a great job showing techniques and keeping it funny. Keep them coming!
I love your videos. I have learnt a lot from them and they're a great inspiration. In fact, I even picked up some pallets I found on the way home today! It looks like I need to invest in a nail gun. Just wondering what gauge nailer you're using in your videos or if you can recommend a type of nail gun for these types of projects. Cheers Uncle Knackers.
When i need to fix something, some cheer and inspiration up cant pass up your amusing, skilled, 'right brained' creative videos. keep theme coming. your generosity and sharing is very welcome. love your series ...... are all the best artisans' lefties' ?
Cheers Steve.By the way, I was happy to see you got some good feedback on the table that you posted pictures of on my Facebook page. Well done mate. Cheers

that was a great vid mate, I've been wondering about making items like this to sell. How much do you think you could sell the magazine rack for, I was thinking about £125?? I subscribed to your channel as well, keep up the good work. Best Wishes, Aidy
Thanks Aidy and l appreciate the sub!. Pricing can be a tricky business. It all depends where you intend to sell them. Love your videos but your speaking is so soft compared to the sound level of your tools I am constantly adjusting my audio. It makes it very hard to watch when my wife is sleeping 20 feet from my computer.
Hi Shane, I love your projects and videos, thank you for making them! I shared this one on my site - www.upcycledworld.com/how-to-upcycle-reclaimed-wood-into-a-crate/ (with full credit to you). I plan to share others too... I'm on a mission to educate the world in the ways of upcycling and your video was just what I was looking for! Keep up the great work :)
"Great tip Knackers!", We were getting concerned we wouldn't hear it, but you delivered. Great project.
Thanks Stan. It wouldn't be the same without the catch cry:-) Cheers mate

Hello from Indianapolis, Indiana in the US! Just wanted to say I enjoy your videos and your rustic projects, keep the videos coming!

Everybody makes mistakes but hardly anyone making videos show them. The only people that don't make a mistake are those who never do anything, this crate turned out great. Thanks for making and sharing.
Cheers Robb. I had a lot of fun making it, even if l did make the odd boo boo here and there:-)
Are "those who never do anything" making the mistake of never doing anything?

Looks amazing! You should consider aging the casters with vinegar... adds a very nice patina to most metals :-)
Thanks Beetlewing. Great idea regarding the vinegar. I'll have to give it a go. Cheers.
Simple and beautiful ! I love it!

I like it! What kind of nails are you using to attach the boards? Would glue help make it more rugged?
Masonry nails have a good rustic look to them, but I recommend pilots before nailing.
You're hilarious! Love how it turned out

Thanks Zeldahopper. Yeah l was wrapped how it turned out. Cheers

I love this channel, I just wish I didn't have to turn my volume up to hear the speech then down to not be deafened by the tools! haha
Yeah sorry about the audio Greg. I think l have it sorted out now. Check out my latest video and see what you think. Cheers mate.
shaneconlan1 I've probably binge-watched every video on your channel haha

G'day Shane, nice box! Great for all kinds of uses. Mate, I thought I was the only one that made those kind of balls-ups? Phew. Hey, did you check out steve Ramsay's ink jet transfer tip on the Woodworking for Mere Mortals channel? That kind of thing would be a great finishing touch to a project like this.
Look forward to the next one.
Thanks Chuck. Yeah l did see Steve's video and Jay Bates did one as well. I was going to do it on this project but the transfer didn't work very well on the darker wood which l was really disappointed about as the old Coca Cola advertising sign (which l had printed off) looked really good. I will try it again though on another project.
No mate, you're not the only one. I have a blooper roll that documents all of my stuff ups. I may need to do a two part series:-) Cheers mate
hi- question---- white and yellow paints? you call them poster paints.
as a non american-- what kind of paint? is it p.v.a - wood glue ? starch ?
or what?
thanks fo your time.
keep posting.

Great Vid! I like the style of your videos and the character of your projects. But why the shiny casters? I'd think some dark ones would fit the over all look better. And cool handles. I've actually got a few old handles just like those out here in Montana, USA. Global market place . . . .
G'day donjohmontana. Thanks mate. I used the shiny wheels because l liked the contrast between the old and the new. It's just like the old hot rods you see with the cool shiny modern wheels. But then again l suppose it's all personal taste. I appreciate the comment. Cheers
Once again Shane really cool box mate shame about the tin o well no point crying over spilt polyurethane lol😋...river
Ooohhh mate...the Poly...l'd forgot about the Poly 😂

From experience all pallets are not equal! I've broken down many that were made from hardwood, good stuff and others from pine or soft wood, not so good. The grain isn't as attractive. Note always always double and triple check the boards before running them thru your plainer, if you have one. The plainer save much time a work but doesn't like nails! With a good pallet bar I can tear down two pallets, put a straight edge on them, cut the ends, plain them in less than hour.
When you knock over the polyurthane (sp) I've been there too! Just brush it into whatever surface it was spilled onto.
LIke your videos!
+Billy Barton G'day Billy. Thanks for watching mate. I have a dedicated pallet planer with sacrificial blades for just that occasion :-) You always come across a nail that you haven't detected. Aahh the old poly trick……it happens to all of us :-) Cheers mate

Yes mate, l applied two coats of Satin Polyurethane 👍
that was a great vid mate, I've been wondering about making items like this to sell. How much do you think you could sell the magazine rack for, I was thinking about £125??
