    I watched this live as it happened it was funny but I remember there was a little bit more to it im sure at one point grice stood on it and the camera guy took a shot of the speedo it was at 200kph and climbing and liz went "Oh God" it sounded like she shat herself. During the rest of the show you could here the car racing in the tunnel as they filmed the today show inside the tunnel on the luna park side you couldn't see the car but you could here it at high revs moving away it was awesome.

    What a car. At one point it looked like Gricey had a steering wheel lock on his lap. Good idea for Sydney at that time, he wasn't wrong about Australia going in the wrong direction. And sadly, it's only gotten worse.

    Its funny, I always remembered this as Larry Perkins doing the blast through the new harbour tunnel. How wrong was I. They should bring the spec of the current cars back to more like this old girl, keep the current safety gear and engines, ditch the rest.

      Two years on and I just noticed old Gricey broke the front splitter on one of the bumps, it blows apart at 1:19 and at 1:38 when he pulls the car up you can see the front extension to the splitter is missing with jagged edges on the corners...

    If that was an actual race-trim '92 HRT VP Commodore then geez gricey was just feathering it because I'm used to hearing them rev alot harder and higher than that, particularly since alot of the 92 VPs with the aero package still had the Holden 5ltr Group A motor in it and they could rev north of 8000rpm.. great video 👍

    • @CP0rings33
      @CP0rings33 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I’ve read in the comments it’s the Holden 304 not the chev race motor

    • @James-zj3ud
      @James-zj3ud 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's my point.. the Holden 304s could rev all the way out to 8500rpm in the final days of group A as they didn't yet have the 7500rpm rev limiters.. this was basically a VN Group A with the '93 spec aero - rear wing, front air dam etc..

    Wouldn't happen nowadays, the fun Nazis have suppressed Aussie culture banning all acts of spontaneous trills, next tunnel opening will be self driven cars at 40kph with robots handing out tofu snags on gluten free bread lookalike with the onions underneath.

    I wish they did stuff like that more often like once a year have people pay to dive there cars at high speed through a closed off section of the road like this. Nah we live in a Nanny state where we are just told oh no don't do that you will get hurt. We are just breeding a new generation called the cotton wool generation.
