    Thanks guys. I was there when it opened in 2008? but haven't been back. Wife has never visited and we're going soon. This will help me keep her safe and happy turning and burning. Appreciate all the effort to get it filmed and reviewed. Better luck catching a storm cycle next time. Cross your fingers, not your ski's.

    Love this channel! How would you say Revelstoke compares to Sunshine Village and Lake Louise?

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Revelstoke is more rugged and untamed, and a laid back vibe as it's more remote. It is centralized on one mountain with long steep runs through trees and can get more snow. Lake Louise and Sunshine dont feel as steep in most areas and have more visitors. They are spread out across multiple mountains but are higher elevation so the season can go at least a month longer. Do all three if the road between them is open and stop by Kicking Horse on the way. :)

      snowboardtraveler I’m on the fence between Fernie or Rev on my Feb trip..would u make a comparison or suggestion?

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a tough one. I think of them as fairly equal in terms of how much fun it is to ride at each one. Revy is on track for one of its snowiest seasons in the past decade and Fernie is not far behind on snow totals. Revy is 600 acres larger at 3,100 acres and 2,000ft more vertical so long top to bottom runs from one main mountain. Fernie is wide across 5 incredible gladed bowls. I'd probably lean toward Revy this year to experience their gladed terrain in the excellent snow.
      where are you traveling from and is this the only resort you are going to?

    What’s Revelstoke like compared to Whistler and Blackcomb???

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      we haven't been to Whistler yet, but in general Whistler is quite developed and receives a lot of visitors each year. Runs can be easily tracked out, but there are over 8,000 acres and several types of terrain. Revelstoke is still somewhat under the radar, less tourists, but also less developed if you're looking for that. It feels more backcountry. No glaciers to ride on but alpine bowls and endless glades on powder days.

      @@snowboardtraveler Okay, thanks 😊

    • @squamishfish
      @squamishfish 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whistler Blackcomb is way more commercialized then Revelstoke,a lot of whistlers clients are very well off ,even the very rich from Mexico go to Whistler besides Americans , Canadian , and Japanese, but also the local suburban crowds from The Vancouver,Seattle Portland Oregon areas so it is a mix of well offs and middle class,

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Though with the travel restrictions this year, if you live in Canada already this might be the best year to visit, fewer tourists and they are getting excellent snow.

      I skiied at Whistler in the 1970's as a teenager BEFORE it became a huge, international resort. Revelstoke is, and feels, like Whistler back in those days. Also, Whistler's culture (in my opinion) has deteriorated in recent decades, mostly due to nearby Vancouver which has been beset by dangerous imported street gangs, a pacifist Leftist culture left over from the 1960's, and the average young person caught in the middle between those forces and thrown into turmoil. Eastern British Columbia, where Revelstoke is located in the Rocky Mountains and its legendary heli-skiing sub-ranges of the Selkirks, Monashees, Cariboos, and Purcells, is far enough away to have been spared all of that, and still has a socially relaxed, pleasent society, and a strong stable, one, too.

    Great video! How do you manage to get that quality at 1080 resolution? Is it downscaled from 4k?

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      most of it was filmed on a gopro hero 7 at 1080p, 60fps, flat profile, then color corrected in post. some of the pov was on an old gopro 4. maybe because it was a nice sunny day the gopro actually captured decent quality. I might try 2.7k downsized or 4k this year but the file size is much larger and slower post processing.

    Anyone know how Revelstoke compares to Big Sky? Which is better?

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both are really good, but different layouts. They receive about the same amount of snow 400+ inches per year. Revy can be thought of like a cone, centralized runs top to bottom with glades all along, longest runs in North America, 3,100 acres. Relatively low altitude with top at 7500 ft, bottom at 1,700ft. BigSky is bigger at 5,850 acres but spread out across 4 mountains. Still long runs and higher elevation with top at 11,166ft and base at 7,500ft. Some crazy steeps off Lone Peak. It might come down to the type of terrain available depending on what you want to ride - Revy has 55% easy/intermediate and 45% advanced and BigSky has 40% easy/intermediate and 60% advanced/expert.

    Revelstoke is a great mountain, so it is unfortunate that they installed a flawed lift system which does a poor job of spreading out skiers and boarders. But the worst thing about the lifts is the failure to address the extremely low base elevation. Reliable season long skiing in B.C. starts at around 4,000' asl. but with Revy having a base elevation of 1690ft asl a lot of the lower mountain is heavy snow or slush. They need a lift that starts at 3,500 or 4,000ft asl and that feeds the upper Stoke chair, but even the master development plan omits this. This is what you get when owners have no ski industry experience.

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In late season usually only the upper half of the mountain is decent so you’re just lapping Stoke. Another lift on the upper half would be nice.
