@@NottJoeyOfficial The Wii U Gamepad has a resolution of 854x480. 480p refers to how many pixels tall the screen is. Each eye would still get 480p as you are splitting the screen in half horizontally, not vertically.

Personally I’ve been interested in adapting VR games to the Wii U. Personally I think this would be more fun without the headset, just use the Wiimotes and the Wii U for some “Flatsaber”
I gotta say, I'm impressed. You made the 9-Axis research actually understandable. Not everybody is able to explain something like that. Plus, you were actually able to get the game to work, to an extent anyway. Obviously this is a very niche project, but if you were able to refine the design, I would be willing to buy a VR accessory for the Wii U. It would also be nice if you were able to release a demo. If you ever get the opportunity to work with someone on that, I would like to see what else could be done.
This was an awesome video and build, but if I can give some constructive criticism, I think the rapid onset of memes was... way too overpowering and distracted the focus from your narrative/story. I think you would be better suited just using occasional memes with mostly B rolls of Wii U games and diagrams. You don't need to constantly flash things in our face. But other than that, this was awesome! Absolutely insane, but awesome! I like how you explained your mistake on the build and how you fixed it, rather than pretending it didn't happen. Looking forward to your future stuff, and subbed!
After rewatching for a second I can definitely see where you are coming from. I will change this up for the next one and see how it goes, input much appreciated :)
Breaking News: *Local Florida Man breaks into daycare and precedes to bring a whole 3d printer into a playroom to create a Wii-U-based VR headset using everything in the toyboxes.*
I was thinking of making custom controllers, and a custom vr headset enclosure that uses the unused serial port on the gamepad (with quest-like sensors) for roughly 6dof tracking and then make an ALVR client with it.
The Wii U has a tripod mount thingy on it already, it uses m5 thread, 2 slots on the top lip thing and 2 slots on the bottom of the screen, I think it may be easier/more secure to utilize that to mount it to the headset if you ever get the urge to work on it again.
very entertaining video. my one gripe is the GIFs. you are good enough to do animatics. there are some in here that look great. good luck in your future vids
I just got the Wii U a few weeks ago, and I believe that it is the most underrated Nintendo console of all time. Look at what it can do! Here before 1k subs and I subscribed yesterday!
If your going to use a solder iron to melt plastic of any kind, there are specific sticks of plastic you can get to mend things like broken totes and such, as well as proper soldering heads that more effectively melt the plastic; the whole process should be quick, but still requires proper ventilation.
Ive found that if you ever have to fit a 3D printed part to a real world object, it will always make your life easier to print only that connection with as little extra unnecessary plastic as possible to get it perfect
Pro tip for finishing 3D printed parts for future, use bondo body filler for larger mistakes or imperfections and bondo spot putty for smoothing smaller areas. Use the same mask when applying it and gloves. If you need more help finishing stuff lmk, I used to finish Star Wars costumes and helmets. (Wood filler may wash away with water, bondo will not)
I'd love to see you do a video about the incredible glasses-less 3D the Wii remote can produce. The technology got wasted on just being a controller, when it could be used for head tracking that allowed for an amazing 3D effect, so much so, the 3D effect could be caught on camera.
Maybe one should try VR-ing Splatoon 1 as the motion controls are amazing. I know Splatoon uses all three sensors you specify at the beginning. This is why the game is so much more accurate than its successors.
@@heraclessanchez8814 The issue is you have to get the TV screen onto the Gamepad. I don't recall watching the video all the way through, so it was probably solved. Do you mean an actual 1st person POV from the TV screen? Sounds like something Dolphin can do.

it's probably been a good 10 or so years since i last used by wiiu but if i recall correctly the gamepad has a mounting hole specifically for attaching firmly to things? like a tripod mount type hole on the back? might be useful here for getting it to not move since you want it fixed to the lenses

The WiiU is powerful. That´s why it allows this stuff. In theory it´s even possible to mod the gamepad to allow for higher resolution. But nobody has done it yet.
Two things. When making the mount to attach the Wii U Gamepad to the Oculus Go Lenses, making a mount which utilizes the screw holes on the back of the tablet would have been ideal. This would have prevented shifting of the tablet which probably led to distortion and motion sickness due to it just being held on by friction. Second, are those Wii Motion Plus controllers? If they aren't, I'd use the Motion Plus ones because they have extra sensors which could make the "tracking" a lot better. Awesome job.
PLEASE make a video explaining how you synced the notes. I've been trying to create a rhythm game for a while now, and this is the only issue I've yet to solve.
So I love Clone Hero, have a modded Wii U, have dismantled multiple of those VRish headsets meant to hold your phone, and I've wanted to try Beat Saber but don't want to buy an oculus or anything like that. If you got this working correctly and released it as a homebrew then no joke I'd play it, already got the charts I want and everything. Also though if the VR won't work then I'd also be happy to play it just on a TV with wiimotes. Also beat saber has a bunch of user-created songs with some sort of charts in similar fashion to Clone Hero, so making a Wii U game that loads those would be awesome as well. Basically if you can make something playable with this concept in any fashion I'd play it.
