    Did mine in a very similar fashion, Only thing I did different is I only glued about 100mm (4") at a time then worked it in, less chance of creases etc, Came out perfect

    Very nice! I did it on my E36 touring. But I didn’t put the new fabric on myself because I just can’t haha. I only removed and installed the headliner plate

    Is it still possible to purchase the OEM Anthrazit material ?
    I need to do my headliner and I want it to be as close to OEM as possible because I have a concours vehicle. I am just gutted that my headliner has just suddenly decided to separate.
    It was completely mint.
    The German's sure used some crappy glue back in the day.

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I'm not sure but there is a few companies now reproducing all sorts of oem fabrics. The best advice would be to Google "oem bmw fabric" and see what you can find.

    Hey man
    Glue says 30 minutes to dry a bit and 24hrs to dry completely
    Do I have to wait 24 hours to put it back in or I can do it earlier?
    (The glue I have bought is permatex)

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you can put it back in the car but for best results I'd leave it out so the fabric isn't pulling down on the glue.

  • @christoph404
    @christoph404 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    aye no bad, that fabric looks quite thick and not very stretchy, I did a e36 compact with thinner material, much easier to get a smooth finish likes but yours looks good just the same, nice job man.

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Chris. You are right - it was a little too thick in hindsight. Next time ill use something a bit more manageable.

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's still fairly good, but has dropped a little in the centre. If I did this again I would use tinned contact adhesive and a roller to apply the glue.

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a whole other story I'm afraid. You have to remove and disassemble the whole sunroof mechanism to do it properly. I've not gone this far, I cheated and simply covered the part I could reach.

  • @Mario.86

    One of the best E36 headliner repair videos out there. Nice work! I need to tackle this in summer. Would you recommend thicker or thinner fabric?

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slightly thinner is easier to get to conform to all the bends and fiddly bits, Just watch you don't go too heavy on the glue as it will come through the fabric if you apply too much.

    How can I take off the handles? I can't find a screw or a way to get it off

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The handles have a rectangular insert that can be popped out by wriggling the handle itself - the rubber here is soft. Underneath you will find the screws.
