Different Types of Honeybee Feeders

Discussion on the various types of in-hive feeders used to feed honeybees. Included are Boardman, division board (frame), and hive top feeders. Discussion includes the pros and cons of each type.

The only possible problem with hive too feeders I have found was drowning. I found if you taoe a small piece of #8 screen wire over the center vent hole in the inner cover the bees and hive beetles do not have easy entrance. Have used them for years and like them. Great and very informative series. I will get Robert to send out a note to all our members to tune into your channel.

Regarding hive top feeders, they can also double as quilt boards by filling them with cedar shavings or other insulative materials for added winter warmth. Just be careful about excess moisture in the hive.

I like the center plastic ones.. they are easier for them to get to the syrup vs the end wood ones..

With the hive top feeder method, I’m guessing you can use it even in below freezing weather with fondant or just dry sugar?

The ones with the screens would not work as designed as the bees couldn’t access it. You could however flip it upside down to create room for fondant on top of the frames.
