This is a special video, about a very special motorcycle.
    The Suzuki GT380.
It has been a while since I presented a custom project with a 2 stroke engine.
The bike presented on this video, was built by the American Sean Pelletier, the man behind "The MotoWorks", located in Rochester, New york.
His project was inspired by a pertinent question.
Instead of modifying and combining parts from other motorcycles, why not build almost everything from scratch?
Essentially, the main idea is eliminate the time spent on modifications, and spend it just on building everything from scratch.
    I hope you like it.
My special thanks to Pedro Torres, for his great help with my English.
Here are some interesting links about this motorcycle/Builder:

What a beautiful build! My daily rider is a 76 suzuki gt550. They are deffinitly a unique ride. My fairly original, surviver condition bike gets more attention then all the newer, nicer bikes when I go on group rides. The two stroke is a whole different experience, although the suzuki ones deffinitly aren't as fast as you would expect a two stroke of that size to be. The way the power band comes on in stock form is much smoother and less peaky than what people are used to with a two stroke. It's very fun, especially mine with Bassani expansion chambers and extensive port and polish work, but it's not like a cr250r dirt bike that will rip 3rd gear power wheelies when the power band hits.

I'm really impressed. It gives it that x75 triumph look. Where the tridents exhaust was all on one side. I love the idea of the three cylinder 2 stroke. Those were mikuni TM flat slide carburetors he had on there that didn't come stock. Painted the head gold, made it look like a DG high compression head piece. And a Fritz egli type of chassis. Nice, great work. Like those chambers!!

I am somewhat impressed with Sean's build of only 6 months at 20hr/week on a bike with this kind of build quality. Sure the bike might not be to everyone's taste according to some comments posted, but Sean's vision to see everything in 3D and custom build all the unique parts is exceptional for anyone to undertake as you pointed out. 2 stroke, 4 stroke, or electric! Who cares? This guy has talent and your video surly showed that once again to us all. Till next time.

I cut my motorcycling teeth on 2 stroke engined bikes and to this day some 40 years later I still have a soft spot in my heart for them. My first Café Racer build was based on a Suzuki GT250 X7 which became a "Bitza" special as I it had parts from more that one manufacturer on it (Even foil cases from small apple tarts, that were transformed into under tank lighting)!
The skills shown here in the making of the parts and especially the frame are amazing. The lines are beautifully put together to flow just right. .... and as far as that sound ... music to my ears. My only regret is this is not filmed in "Smell-o-vision" to get that wonderful smell of a 2stroke exhaust!

I've only owned four '4 strokes', (CB 250 Dream, CBR 600F, VFR 750 and a Gilera Nordwest 600) all brilliant bikes in their own way.
However when I borrowed a friend's 2 stroke Suzuki 250 it scared the living daylights out of me, as there's no engine brakeing, something I wasn't expecting, and the peak power (for such a small engine) was incredible.
I'd definitely own a 2 stroke if I could find a nice one, but they do require a lot more hands on daily maintenance and carb 'fettling'.
As for this bike, I'm sure its a thrill a minute due to the lightened subframe.
Bravo for this brave build. 👍

My first bike was a GT250 X7... just imagine a 15year old teenager on a 2stroke of the 80’s... It was a 1982 model the same year I was born and my dad had it abandoned in a warehouse so I gave it a life and called it “Lazarus” cause of this. We had great times for 4 years when I finally bought a ZXR250 then a RGV250 (banana) but it was there with me just to remind me my teenage years and the first wheelies and side to side slides.U gave me the spark to try and give this bike a reincarnation thanks for the post

How could anyone not "Like" this video? If you don't like the bike, you have to admire the time , effort & ingenuity that went in to it, the quality of the filming & production that created the end product. Not all the bike's are to my taste, but i can appreciate how much time, effort & money, let alone the determination to finish a project that is putting up a fight. I build as a paying hobby, & it is the most difficult thing ever to keep going when you hit that wall, so don't give it a thumbs up if that's how you feel, but don't give it a thumbs down, any one of those thing's deserve better.

Once upon a time, I had a GT 550... among many other Suzuki’s. Excellent craftsmanship by this builder! Beautiful lines and the sound, well it warms my heart! After riding over fifty years, “I can see the line, feel the bars twitch, hear the leaves rustle, see the wind, smell the pines and pre-mix in the air, anytime; because I believe!” Quote: Willy .... And, as always, thank you for Racer TV, the Café racers only choice! Ride safe my dear friend and again, thank you for this wonderful video! Hope you and your family are all doing well.

Racer, you're wrong. You said (1:30) that "...this is one of those projects that has to be studied before reaching a final conclusion." Racer, my jaw had already dropped. And it kept dropping further throughout the video. My final conclusion was made before you said I shouldn't. Sublime! And if it's not a REAL café racer -- in the sense that it couldn't come from some inspired kid's back-yard workshop -- it embodies the café racer SPIIRIT better than anything I've seen in years! Thank you!

When I was an almost 20 year old the engines on these 380's looked so cool to me but I do not think they sold that well in Canada as I have seen only a handful in the last 45 years. If you could have had this build back then those bikes would have flown out the door. I love the mid 60s to 70s Suzuki 2 stroke bikes; the 500 titan, the 250 scrambler and the 380 triple. Also loved the Kawasaki 500 and 350 triples. Those triple engines sure wail and scream! Thanks for sharing and triggering long lost memories. Kind regards from Canada.

First (1977) road bike was a GT250, ported, polished, hand built chambers, rear set pegs and clip ons all the fun stuff we could do back then. Next was a GT550, with a similar set up, alas to much fight in the corners for my liking but a rocket on the line. I went more sedate after that.
Probably would have thought I had died and gone to heaven had I seen this bike back then.

These are a bike that is very close to my heart, my beautiful wife own's one, the first bike she ever rode on, & the one she used to get me riding again. Although her's is standard, well better than standard, it should be, it stands me at over £500 all in. I'm a bit worried because she keep using my Suzuki "Gamma" 500, and she does say "nothing vibrates like a 2 stroke". It's a beautiful bike, an d so are the part's, the prices not so much, but "Custom" costs, either way 2 stroke's are a labour of love, and you either love them or loath them, me, I love them madly. With clip on handle bars, rearsets & good rubber it was pretty quick. The sound was just awesome. Junk that triple can with stinger set up and fab a 70mm 3into1. You won't regret it.

More of a retro-racer than a café racer, put a Barry Sheene paint job on it and it'd be a winner.. I had a GT380 many years ago, it was dire (middle pot kept seizing) & it sounded faster than it went.

It may not be about finding plutonium but discovering a dinosaur and bringing it back to life. I have always liked dinosaurs and two-stroke engines. In fact my first bike was one that had a morini 100cc two-stroke engine in a local design and manufacture. I even have one of those motors as an ornament in my house and I hope one day to bring it to life. But this is certainly another level, I am not a purist in aesthetics, nor in manufacturing, because although the shapes are not "classic", that is, a copy of old motorcycles, it retains the beauty of bygone times. The same can be said for the use of fiberglass and other materials. As for the wonderful three-cylinder Suzuki engine to hear it on the street roaring through Manhattan would be wonderful, but will the EPA bureaucrats allow it? Hope so. A beauty!

I'm currently building a GT380 custom using a GS500E chassis with GSX-R suspension. The GT380 engine was a prefect candidate considering the 500E used a derivative of a 70's air cooled engine, from the factory. The 3 cylinder slotted right in with minor mods.

Mr. RacerTV has a point that some builders should make it complex.

    Simple.

the 380 - for those who've never riden one - have a very unique appeal. Lots of fun with enough power to enjoy that fun but - the original frames were, well of an outdated design. The 380 engine in a more contemporary chassis is a recipe for enjoyment and isn't that why we ride?

@@RACER_TV I just watched it again. I am not sure if he understands stresses in frame geometry but it looks solid. Also, the rest of the build is pretty much uncompromising. The motor is too high in the frame, but that is hard to avoid.
I would say this is the best build you have covered in a long time, but I have no idea what it would be like to ride. It looks better than any production bikes these days, but that is only a back handed compliment.
