My first river cruise was with Scenic in August, Amsterdam to Budapest, fantastic holiday, I am hooked and doing two more river cruises with Scenic in 2015 and already planning others with them.
I was expecting to pay much more for all that is included with that luxury.. Even the included businesses class air plain cost's for up to 2000€ really gives you a great bunch for your money. almost.. too much
I priced 4 cruise lines for this Christmas Market on the Danube. For what you get, it's actually one of the LEAST expensive! I've been reading all the reviews elsewhere and Scenic is a consistent 4.5-5 stars for the last 3 years at least. I'll update after we return!
Scenic is overblown. They over commit and under deliver on their promise. You can get just as good a deal with Viking for much less cost. They don’t provide snacks, unless you get the cruise director to make the bar staff put out...I guess they tried to save them. Not enough staff so you generally have to go to the bar for your drinks. If you order from the menu at lunch, you’d better keep reminding them, otherwise just go to the buffet. Staff fight a lot, I guess because not enough and they are over worked. Be careful many of the liquors are extra charge. Call themselves top of the line , they are not. The trip we took was great along the Rhine, but you can get that with any line, but cheaper with better service. Beware.
@@tollman62 I'm not sure what other lines are good. Although we did meet others who did say they enjoyed river cruises with Viking. The drinks are included, but they are low end brands, they do have high end brands prominently displayed and they want you to pay for these. We actually do ocean cruises, this was a first and last now that we have sampled it. The trip was fun, but we just paid too much with Scenic and expected them to deliver for the cost and they didn't. Investigate Viking....but I would not recommend Scenic.
So, we've been on 2 Scenic Cruises (2019, 2022) -- with one coming up in the South of France next year. We have yet to pay for anything on board. All drinks are included -- with the exception, I understand, of some very high end drinks (and, whatever they are -- I guess I don't need them). Order a Grand Marnier or other liqueur and they give you a very generous portion. Last time we stayed in the Junior Suite -- and had a really lovely bottle of wine in our room and, as soon as it was done - another would appear. The River Cafe is open all day long and you can pop by to get a lovely dessert or a sandwich, fruit, or other snacks. Not sure why these people indicated that they don't provide snacks. Also, there are always cookies at the tea station. One day everyone was up top checking out a special type of lock -- and up came the staff with hot chocolate with brandy for everyone. Also not sure why they said there wasn't enough staff - but, truly, it's not a hardship to walk up to the very friendly bar staff and ask for any kind of mixed drink you can think of. We have sailed with another river cruise company in the past -- it was nice too -- but lots of things were extra -- wine and beer was available at lunch and dinner -- but another time -- you have to pay. Also, some of the excursions are extra -- this is true on Viking as well. Scenic doesn't nickle and dime you that way. Butler services do vary depending on the suite you are in -- but if you are on the Diamond Deck -- or if you are in a Junior, Panorama, or Owner's Suite -- you have some pretty nice perks. We're in the Panorama Suite next year -- unlimited laundry, special wine, a daily amuse-bouche before dinner. We found, on both of our cruises with Scenic, that the staff just about tripped over themselves waiting on you - with a smile. And ... we have never seen staff not getting along.
