@@snolan1990 excellent - wondering what kind of clock you run to keep this gear all tightly synched and tidy. Also how it is managed in terms of midi interfacing and routing. Such an interesting collection of gear you have. I have some of the same stuff! Wondering too about how you setup and manage tracks - sample loading, automation, everything! Would love to spend a night in the pub picking your brains about how you do your thing. If you are ever up in Glasgow drop me a line!
@@quietandpeacefulman Clock comes straight from the ASQ10 if I actually use it, more often than not recently I simply sequence everything from the ASQ10. It has 4 MIDI outs so I am quite lucky that lag doesn't crop up too often. I've wondered when watching your tunes how you utilise 2 sequencers at once. The MMT-8 looks similar to my old MC-303 in terms of being a great sequencer for performance. The ASQ10 is very advanced but not great for jamming with loops. On this tune the 4 MIDI outs didn't make any difference though as it is all ESI (apart from 1 kick from another drum machine driving sidechain). I do have a few MIDI Thru units that mean I don't have to chain more than a couple of units. Automation on this tune was achieved in a few ways: 1) Using velocity - Here is is only linked to amplitude but it could be linked to filter, pan etc. 2) Using MIDI CC - Although too much of this can cause lag. 3) Resampling whole sections of the tune with manual modulation being applied - No internal resampling in the ESI so this ends up being me playing the section through a filter for example recording it - then sampling that recording. My ESI is a Turbo model and maxed out, so I can build huge banks and save them to an SCSI 2 SD; the SCSI 2 SD is hidden round the back of the unit so it looks like it just has the floppy drive. I just sample everything as audio though. If you haven't got one for your ESI it is worth considering. If I'm ever up in Glasgow I'll drop you a line!
Yeaah and the ESI sampler. Man I just discovered this tool. The say it's criptic... I don't think so. It's pretty simple and sounds very good in my opinion. We can still grab them cheap. I prefer them over akai s3000.
Thanks! Bass is in the original sample, just messed around with it to bring it up. I love the ASQ10. Really simple to use, and really fully featured for hardware MIDI. But if you can afford an MPC60, that is the same sequencer, just with a sampler included.
@@bitambassador as far as I understand the ASQ10, MPC60 MkI and MkII all have the same sequencer. The MkII I think is just in a cheaper case and has a headphone output. So any should work.
I pre-treat my samples. On this occasion this was in software but I also sometimes treat the samples with hardware effects. Here it was a ton of compression and a bit crusher. I've found pre treatment of sounds to remove dynamic range and increase the frequencies you are most interested in really helps to make a full mix. Thanks for listening!
Not just any touch
That's the French touch baby oh La La ❤

As with all gear there is a bit of a learning curve but it was fairly straightforward to get to grips with.
