Thank you SOOOO much for your video! The instructions that came with the foot and in the machine’s book are about as clear as mud. I’ve been sewing for more years than I care to admit. This little thing is amazing and thanks to your video I now know how to use it.
Thank you! I was certain that mine did not work until you explained how to feed the fabric into it.. love it now. I bought the side cutter foot because I don't like to have to bring my serger when traveling in our 5th wheel. Thanks again!
Thank you so much! I recently got the same sewing machine, ordered the side cutter, but had hard time figuring the cutting part out. Very helpful, thank you!
I absolutely love mine, such neat and wonderfully tidy edges. I usually make cotton clothes for myself as I overheat in manmade fibres so this is perfect for me.
Thank you a lot for the tutorial. I just bought the side cutter presser foot and I didn’t understand what is wrote in the package and your video hepls a lot. Thank you!😊
Thanks for this. I’ve just bought this and was struggling to get it working. I was just missing out what to do with right side of the cut section. I’ve got it working well now
I'm stuck with the generic side cutter presser foot for the moment. Now that I know that there is a better one that works on this machine, I'll be working on saving for the good one. Thank you for the tutorial, take care . ❤ your work. God bless Deb
Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I just bought mine and this video helps a lot! 🥰 same sewing machine and same side cutter, both from amazon without problems until now :)
Appreciate your video! My knife/cutter does not cut…it’s brand new, do I have to adjust the screw to lower it? It doesn’t seem to reach the fabric? Help!
Aly, I had no idea what a "Side Cutter Foot was and what it could do - I may get one - looks like it might make some sewing much easier and probably better that I might accomplish otherwise.
Hi, thank you for the video. Need your help: my Brother machine came with the one you have in the video (the one you're using), but it keeps breaking needles! please help!
Hi! I've taken close up pictures of how the foot is installed and how it works and posted them in the blog post I wrote to correspond with this video. (Check out www.sewingmachinefun.com/brother-side-cutter-presser-foot-review/) I hope these pictures help a bit more!
I like the Brother side cutter foot! I did not have a good experience with the generic side cutter foot, which is the one that has the tan casing around it.
I have a question you may not be able to answer, but if not no big deal. Does this foot work with machines that have a shuttle case bobbin instead of a drop in bobbin? I am having the worst time getting the two other ones I've purchased to work without striking the bobbin shuttle case [so many broken needles]. Thanks!
i bought mine new but the side cutting does not cut well, it eats the fabric and it has hard time cutting even silky easy cut fabrics, the seller refuse to give me back my money he said its a brand new one (which it was ) . am i doing anything wrong, Do i have to adjust the sewing machine or something?
I've tried several of these and they don't come anywhere near a proper serger in terms of ease of use, finish neatness, stitch security or speed. ( Proper sergers are fast even domestic ones). Strongly suggest anyone reading looks out on the 2nd hand market for an old (sort of 1970's) - Juki serger. The Singer Sergers of the time, among others, were made by Juki - like the 14U234B - and go for little money. Like the sewing machines of the time they are made to last and last. They probably won't have had that much use/wear either. They're smooth, fast and (for a serger) fairly quiet. Modern (very very expensive) sergers major on air threading etc., but once you've threaded a vintage one once or twice it's quite easy. At that time Juki made a lot of the sergers on the market for different brands that re-labelled them as their own. The modern Singers although they might look the same are a piece of ........ (probably not allowed by youtube).
As far as I know, there are no knockoffs that look exactly like the Brother one. There are hundreds of knockoffs that look like the other one that I show in the video, though. I had nothing but trouble with that one! If your foot is Brother and brand new (and thus you know it shouldn't have a dull blade), make sure you're making a small slit in the fabric and putting the slit of fabric in the right location before you start sewing. I have some pictures on my post here www.sewingmachinefun.com/brother-side-cutter-presser-foot-review/ that show exactly where the fabric needs to be placed to have it cut. I hope that will help you solve your issues!
The blade lowers and raises as the machine sews. There's no other way to change the position that I am aware of. However, if you just place your fabric underneath the presser foot, the blade will not go down enough to actually cut it. You will need to make a small slit in your fabric and place it over the front of the presser foot. If you check out the blog post I wrote to accompany this tutorial (see the links below the video), it will give you larger photos of exactly how to set the fabric up so it will cut properly. Hope that helps with setup!
Yes, you just need to feed the entire thing underneath instead of positioning the discard section over the top. But then you might as well just use an overcast foot.
In the US, it's available at Walmart, Amazon, and used on Ebay I know at least. Not sure if any of those websites are available where you are. Hope you are able to find it!
Any official brother sewing machine dealer,. Be careful on auction sites as there are lots of knock offs, just like the one sewing machine fun showed first. It's not cheap if it doesn't work.
I watched your tutorial again and BINGO…I got it to work!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!😮

Glad I saw this before buying that cheaper one. Now I will invest in the proper Brother one for my SM1400.
Thank you a lot for the tutorial. I just bought the side cutter presser foot and I didn’t understand what is wrote in the package and your video hepls a lot. Thank you!😊
Thank you for such a detailed tutorial!!! I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out with the instruction that came with mine :)
Thank you so much for your very clear instructions and video. Wonderful really appreciated it.
Got mine from amazon love it it’s sturdy and easy to use never had a problem with mine
Thanks for this. I’ve just bought this and was struggling to get it working. I was just missing out what to do with right side of the cut section. I’ve got it working well now
Glad you figured it out! I thought that was easily the most difficult part and what got me caught up, too, when I first started using it!

Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I just bought mine and this video helps a lot! 🥰 same sewing machine and same side cutter, both from amazon without problems until now :)
Thank you for explaining these steps so clearly that I could actually understand them!!
Thank you for this video on how this presser foot works.
Wondering if I can use it finish edges of fabric like canvas. To stop it from fraying.
I just heard about this. Im looking for one for my brother ls2125. What a lifesaver! And money saver if it works for my machine!
Appreciate your video! My knife/cutter does not cut…it’s brand new, do I have to adjust the screw to lower it? It doesn’t seem to reach the fabric? Help!
I found it easy to use. Patience you have to have

Hi, thank you for the video. Need your help: my Brother machine came with the one you have in the video (the one you're using), but it keeps breaking needles! please help!
Please do they have some for industrial machine use
Do you know what the markings on it mean? If I wanted to use in place of serger how do I line up the fabric to do 1/4” seam or 1/2” seam?
Hi! I will like to know if it works with knit fabric?
This was super helpful, thank you
What’s the blade life? Can you change the blade, or do you have to buy another foot?
I'm wondering about that as well!
It would be most helpful if you could aim camera at the foot (close-up) as you demonstrate how to install and how it works.

So can you identify which one is good to buy. I was looking to buy one thanks.

Do you need to replace the blade?
Hello! Can you please kindly tell me what brother sawing machine you using? Thank you very much
Hi! This is my Brother SE625 combo sewing and embroidery machine.

I am having trouble with mine working. How do you know if you got a knock off? Mine doesn’t seem to want to cut any fabric.
