    Mike thanks again for another great video.
    I'm a retired toolmaker/machinist, fifty years experience, and watching you work makes me want to enrol in your course. Top notch skills, smart thinking approach, thank you so much for your teaching.

      Thanks RDW. These StringTech Workstation TH-cam videos , essentially give you a front row seat to my GRAD classes. Thanks for your encouraging sentiments. Gratefully, MMcC

    I also like the longer videos and love watching this kind of stuff. Keep up the great work

      Like I mentioned to BD ... the length of the video will be dictated by the time I have available and the information that really NEEDS to be relayed. Thank you for your support and encouragement .... there is still a lot of gas in the tank .... if you don't mind overlooking the amateurish / jumpy video and audio mix. Lol ! Cheers ... MMcC

      Good BD. I'm glad this is doing it for you. I can't always guarantee videos of this length. It really depends on what I have on the go at any given moment. I don't make a penny off of these videos; quite frankly, I've never met anyone who does. So production and flawless edits will probably never happen. But the CONTENT will always be there ... no BS .. no Fluff ... no Obscenities ...just the stuff that counts. Cheers ... Very best in the coming Year \m/ ! MMcC

    So, this is my first video of yours to watch. It seems that your main purpose is to sell these workstations.

    • @StringTechWorkstations

      My main purpose is to share knowledge on Guitar Repair and Design techniques. You have watched 1 of 520 videos ... it might be a little early to make that judgement call. I make no apologies for the Workstations; that have evolved over a few decades of full time Guitar Repair and Design. It was during a 23 year stint of teaching courses at the local community college, that students starting requesting these workstations that we were using in the classes. From there we started and continue to get requests from around the World from Guitar Pro-shops / Guitar Builders / Guitar Techs / Music Stores / Guitar Collectors / Touring Techs ( for KISS / Steve Vai / Dave Matthews etc .. ) and lately, guitar enthusiasts who are putting together their Kit Guitars in their apartments and home studios during lockdown. We ramp up to meet the demand and still produce these workstations in small production runs for anyone who is interested. The purpose of the multi-adjustable format is to make everyone's job easier quicker and safer. In the meantime I continue to produce a dozen or more videos each month, to help enlighten those who are interested in the Art of Guitar Repair and Design. Welcome aboard ! MMcC

    I am a 59 years old guy and a part time luthier.
    I am always curious to watch ''how to'' videos about fixing guitars but I must say that I rarely learn something I didn't already know.
    Most of the time DIY videos are crap and/or just plain wrong.
    I've been watching (new subsrciber btw) your videos recently and I must say that you are one of the few that knows what he is talking about.
    Loved and agreed with the compensated nut idea.
    Question: What material are you using for the new nut.
    Is it cow bone or Corian or other man made material ?

    • @StringTechWorkstations
      @StringTechWorkstations  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Marc ! The quickest way to demonstrate the significance of a compensated nut .... is to strum G-C-D on a Les Paul Lol ! I was "a Voice in the Wilderness" for many years on this subject. It is always especially nice to get acknowledgement from my peers. I have used many different materials for comp-nuts .... but ... corian ... is my first choice, because of it's consistency of density and workability. Very best regards ! MMcC

    Hey Mike cool video, you say something about the neck to body junction bieng an issue. Just curious What is the issue? I’ve heard some people talk about drop off or something like that when fret levelling. Thanks!

    • @StringTechWorkstations
      @StringTechWorkstations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Where the neck joins the body, it is a tenon in mortise joint. The neck from the nut to the heel has been carved to a shape to accomodate the left hand..... so that portion of the neck is quite flexible. The actually tenon in mortise joint is very solid. This solid portion of the neck ends up being slightly "proud" at the neck joint ... and often needs "Fret Correction " to allow for a nice close playing action. I will address this in an upcoming video. MMcC

      High e saddle / b /g / d .... ALL needed to be flipped 180 and re-installed ... to squeeze out the intonation. MMcC

      I do not stock-pile repairs ( I never have ) ... I generally book in 3/6 guitars at a time ... finish what's on my plate.Then book a few more. Lead in time is 3-5 weeks ... turnaround time is anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks. mcconvilleguitars@gmail.com OR text @ 519 275 1008. Stratford Ontario Canada.
