I don't think they portrayed her as bad. She certainly needed help and the only help he gave her was tying her up with shipping tape. I only see her as a victim trying to get away from an abuser.
All that was said was that she was an alcoholic and a drug addict which even her own relatives like her brother confirmed. As to stealing money from the restaurant, that was introduced by the prosecution as motive, _not_ by the defense to besmirch her character (that she did it might be corroborated by the motorcycle shop guy who said she was stashing cash in his shop.)
I wouldn't believe a word out of his mouth. Hes a former FBI informant, he's a murderer, he's a big time drug dealer, he's a cheater, he's a coward. He's a liar. Doesn't get any better.
If you remember in the beginning, Dawn’s friend Joe said he was holding $700 for her and she called him to say she was coming over with $1,000 more. But never showed up. That sounds like “I’m going to leave” money. Cause if Dawn was a heavy drug user like David and his daughter were trying to make her out to be, that money would have been spent as soon as she got it on drugs. So my theory is that Dawn was tired of being controlled by David and probably had suspicions about David and Kathy. She told him she wanted a divorce and her share of the restaurant’s profits. David likely bludgeoned or beat Dawn to death (the blood spatter mentioned) then likely did tape her up to contain her blood. And disposed of her body the way he admitted to doing. Kathy believed what she wanted to believe because she benefited from it and so did Jackie. Except she finally admitted to helping him probably in exchange for immunity.

Exactly. Also they were married, how could she “live off” her husband? Children really have no idea the type of relationship their parents have, just like parents don’t know the relationships their kids have and I wish adult children would reflect on that when their parents do something wrong.

Her bones were most likely in the land fill near that restaurant or his home. If he did cook her, which I believe he did but not the way he says he did, cause her body has never been found and that means her bones had to be out there somewhere cause you cant cook away bones. I think he dismembered her at his home and cooked her at his home for days and when he went to work he threw the many bags containing parts of her body away. Had the authorities searched the nearest landfill, specifically the areas where they dumped the trash from his restaurant dumpster and his home trash, they most likely would have found some of Dawn's bones had they looked during her disappearance. Dawn was secretly saving money for a reason. She was going to leave him. Being tied up by the man is not normall behavior. The most dangerous time for the woman is when she's about to leave the man. Such a tragic story. If you or someone you know is in a bad abusive relationship, you need to plan your escape by covertly creating a saftey plan to leave before you serve them the divorce papers. If you need to collect your belongings, please call an officer to come with you. Dont go alone! If you have children, take them somewhere safe before you leave. And do not bring your kids when you collect your belongings.
If I ever find myself in a difficult legal position, I sincerely hope my daughters will stick by me. I know that I would never betray their trust no matter what they had done.
What woman begins stashing cash with the business friend across the street so she could leave, only to instigate the rage of her possessive husband? It’s clear she was afraid of him and wanted out. He’s such a liar.
His side piece, is so suspicious. Her storytelling, her convincing herself of him never possibly hurting her, she’s the picture of DELUSIONAL & SUSPICIOUS.
I don’t think the judge should have allowed him to interrupt Dawn’s sister’s statement so he could “respond”. Maybe at the very end of the sentencing but while she was still standing during her statement was a bad call.
As of today, December 10, 2024, David Robert Viens was denied parole for three years, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. A parole board will next meet in June 2026 to discuss David’s eligibility for release.
That was a bizarre case. From what I could find, he's still in prison and been denied parole two times.... I hope he never gets released.. he deserves to rot in prison

I’m skeptical about the whole story of the packing tape and Dawn being high and out of control. The only person who can attest to her drugs or alcoholism is her killer’s daughter. I think he’s a narcissist and was controlling and violent, and that’s why she was hiding money with a friend. I think he lost his temper and killed her and all the rest of this-confessing to his daughter and his girlfriend, jumping off the cliff-it’s all been because he likes the drama and the attention. That response in court to Dawn’s sister was so transparent and self-serving. I don’t think he really boiled her, but I don’t believe that packing tape story either.
He woke up and saw her dead (so he claims). He didn't cook her (so he claims) but then it ends with "her body has never been found". Even if he didn't cook her, he should at least know where the body is, no? How was this left out of the story?
Exactly I was wondering the same thing! And I thought he confessed that he saw the dump truck and then dumped her body in his dumpster. What happened to that?
@@carolesanchez9313 agree, he probably hit her in the head or something, knocked her out and is how he was able to "tape her up" and then he went to sleep and she died of a head injury.
They stated that the blood was so old that they couldn't use it for evidence. There's a possibility it was from a previous altercation (he admitted he'd done similar violent acts to Dawn in the past).
The side sauce who wanted to be the main meal. Unfortunately, he seems to have literally turned his wife into a meal. I bet all his customers threw up when he admitted to boiling her body.
that's what I was thinking...he claims her arms and hands were slapping him, etc, you'd have to have three arms yourself to hold both her arms down and then wrap tape around her. It makes no sense
Buddy, if you have to follow up the sentence „I love my wife“ with the clarification „I didn’t cook my wife“, then MAYBE thinking you willingly harmed her is NOT SO RIDICULOUS as you want to make us believe….
The mistress may be less attractive but she's still much younger than the wife. Typically, a man leaves his wife because he wants to be with a younger woman.
He talks too much, it's just not convincing. The stories he told about her were quite simply hard to believe ; the cooking pot ; her being a drug addict ; none of that fits with her friend over the road hiding her money, or with her working at the restaurant (like nobody noticed she was off her head or stinking of alcohol at 9am), and that fishy girlfriend. Seriously she's a right bisom, the only part of what she told that seemed true was the bit when a police officer was present (right at the beginning). For me the husband is so guilty and the girlfriend is lucky to not be in jail ! Poor Dawn, such a beautiful smile, she seemed such a bright and sunny person. So sad.
Definitely shouldn’t be able to question people who are just out of surgery on pain meds. I said things that I never thought and were untrue. So I believe that could happen. I think he deserves 15 to life even if it went the way he’s saying to happened. Pretty sad. Right away he shacked up with a 22 year old…. She knew her well and didn’t care? Come on! She wasn’t scared she’d come back?
Does anyone else think this guys mug shot looks a lot like Scott Peterson??? Dudes GF is quite the little actress! This man is so sick and narcissistic!
He cooked her for sure. Its what he knows. Thats why he cant say where the body is. The only other theory is he doesnt want the body to be found cause her wounds would show he is lying.
So he put a 50 gallon metal drum on the stove filled with water and a human body, bioled that body for four days without the stench lingering in the kitchen of the restaurant during business hours, then managed to get that 50 gallon barrel off of the stove filled with water and a human body and dump it. Make it make sense please, because it makes no sense.
He could have done it in batches overnight and removed the pieces out of the boiling water and bagged them up without moving the drum. You can siphon water out of a container so that would eliminate having to move a drum of water. In the video the guy lifts the empty drum on the stove. This theory makes perfect sense.
Can u imagine? Killing someone, put her in the dumpster truck and going to work, work with food and serve customers??? Wtf is wrong with those people, completely beyond discusting

This needs more likes to save a life
The daughter should have been charged. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree
Agreed
With what?
Accessory after the fact, aiding and abetting..
Also impersonating a deceased person…that is an accessory..
If I ever find myself in a difficult legal position, I sincerely hope my daughters will stick by me. I know that I would never betray their trust no matter what they had done.
His daughter getting on my nerves
She's false
She wished she had never said anything to the cops! Just sick!!
What woman begins stashing cash with the business friend across the street so she could leave, only to instigate the rage of her possessive husband? It’s clear she was afraid of him and wanted out. He’s such a liar.
All 3 of them are beyond shady
His side piece, is so suspicious. Her storytelling, her convincing herself of him never possibly hurting her, she’s the picture of DELUSIONAL & SUSPICIOUS.
And a narcissist
I don’t think the judge should have allowed him to interrupt Dawn’s sister’s statement so he could “respond”. Maybe at the very end of the sentencing but while she was still standing during her statement was a bad call.
💯Totally disrespectful.
I really enjoy 48 hours. It’s the most complete cases from beginning to end. They do a great job.
Yes, I absolutely agree with you
They are all liars. Him, his side chick, his daughter. Was she really an addict too, or is that the narrative that he was selling? Disgusting.
Exactly a drug addict for one cannot save their money.
That girlfriend is a piece of work.
💯
@@deb6853 it's the internet , everyone is allowed to have an opinion. You don't like it, then stay out of the comments lol. It's not that hard 😂

@Aspectus lol it's hilarious
I don't believe a word she says.
he told multiple versions about how his wife went away or died.... what makes him think anyone will believe anything he has to say
He survived ...that was his worst punishment !! Wheelchair for life !!!!!
Thanks for ruining the ending, lol. I need to stay out of the comments.
no. his worst punishment is coming unless he repents. the eternal fiery torments of hell awaits.
Spoiler..
@hanotify Can you believe what he did to himself after he murdered his wife?
Hot wheels
The guilty person always tries to blame the victim. 😢
Yes, they destroy their victims, body, soul and reputation.
narcissists
While playing the victim.
So the daughter wishes she had never said anything to the police about her murderous father? She should’ve been charged with a crime too smh.
As of today, December 10, 2024, David Robert Viens was denied parole for three years, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. A parole board will next meet in June 2026 to discuss David’s eligibility for release.
I hope he still gets to cook!
That was a bizarre case.
From what I could find, he's still in prison and been denied parole two times.... I hope he never gets released.. he deserves to rot in prison
This man is a psycho, he cooked her! And the daughter found out and didn’t tell on him? The pathetic girlfriend said she knew he wouldn’t hurt her but he killed the ex wife? All three of them should had been locked up!
And the daughter wasn’t charged for sending those text messages? Don’t they usually go after people for that?
yeah obstruction of justice for hiding knowledge of a crime
Sickening that they didn’t
The girlfriend is suspicious from the beginning of this. She's overly dramatic.
she is loving that she is on camera
They should have thrown his daughter into prison for conspiring.
His daughter is quite the pos in my opinion. She said she wishes she never would have told!!! WTF if she would have it sure they would have been able to find a body!! She prolonged everyone’s pain!!
Imagine jumping off a cliff only to survive, loser couldn't even off himself
😂😂
I don't find this funny at all. There may be people reading this who have survived a suicide attempt.
@@drunkardsdream most of those people aren’t murderers.

The sentencing is ridiculous. Shoulda been life with no possibility of parole.
They are killing her twice😢
They making her sound like a horrible and troubled person 💔🥺
I’m not saying he didn’t do it, but cooking someone in a 55 gallon drum? Does anybody not realize how heavy that must have been to move in and out?
He could easily have gotten his mistress and daughter to help him move her
@@thelittleredhairedgirlfrom6527you clearly have no idea how heavy or awkward a full 55 gallon open top drum is. You're talking about almost 600 pounds being lifted straight up in the air and balanced precariously on a stove. Not to mention trying to push it on that cart? Forget about it.
@@04dcd 👍 needed a small crane.😂
@@internetcensure5849 literally. Or a forklift. I used to work in a winery and we filled stainless 55g drums all the time and I don't care if you have five people, you're not moving it up and down like that while it's full lol
I think he cut her up before he cooked her, which would require much smaller pots and could have done it bit by bit, like after business hours. He had 2 weeks before anyone else came over to the house, so...
I would charge Jackie and the gf. What is wrong with people. I get that it's hard to turn in your loved one, but that's what good people do. I hope they worked to become better people.
The daughter is complicit..she should be in jail
Coercive controlling man through and through. Horrible case. I hope that the broken back truly hurts forever.
😂😂😂, you’re so wicked. I can’t stop laughing at your comment 🤣🤣🤣
I'm sure it is‼️
Yes
Searing back pain forever!
@@jennifermanu2983 it's only fair that he's got horrible permanent pain, just like Dawn's family.
As soon as he started speaking in court, oof. I do not like him at all. He's arrogant, selfish, and mean.
Ted Bundy had to speak for himself in court, too...
No way he moved that barrel alone. Even if it was only 40 gallons of water alone, weighs 340 lbs
"it all boils down to this" i see what you did there
honestly, though. what a piece of work 😡
He woke up and saw her dead (so he claims).
The more I watch these.. the more I don't want to get married. 😬
Rite on sista 👍👍
Just gotta find the right person.
Girlfriend is lying. She knew. Wouldnt surprise me if she helped him
Always looking forward to the 48 hours notification 🔥🔥🔥
i concur. welcome to the club.
Same here!
He tells his daughter but not his GF? Hmm
And what is up with the GF’s eyebrows?! 😬
How was his daughter not charged??? She’s a horrible human !!! Something don’t feel right with that gf, she knew bout it the whole time!!!
What makes you a good human?
Bad father, bad daughter, bad victim, all poor character consequences
Add gf to the mix
When you victim blame, you're treading on a slippery slope. Remember the victim is not here to defend themselves.
And bad viewer!
Your moral superiority is only exceeded by your stunning command of adjectives.
there's no such thing as the perfect victim, this is a very insensitive comment
Why was there blood if he only bound her and she suffocated?
That he only taped her mouth was a lie.
So he confessed to the two people defending him, but he never mentioned the cooking in those confessions? All three of them shady AF.
Why didn't they charge the daughter with something to do with the coverup after the fact?
That had to be the most bizarre 48 hours I haver listened to. How he only got 15 years is beyond me.
It’s California.
Can't stand the mistress. She oozes gold digger.
His fault not the girlfriend
And the audacity of her to throw out his wifes stuff..like unreal🙄😒
The eyebrows 😂
A MISTRESS is who she is. Stop downplaying it by calling her gf to a married man!
The side sauce who wanted to be the main meal. Unfortunately, he seems to have literally turned his wife into a meal. I bet all his customers threw up when he admitted to boiling her body.

If she was so violent and out of control, how did he get her to be still to get taped up with packing tape? 🙄
Thats so sick. Taped her to "calm things down," and something he use to do 😬
that's what I was thinking...he claims her arms and hands were slapping him, etc, you'd have to have three arms yourself to hold both her arms down and then wrap tape around her. It makes no sense
39:11 I would sentence him to an extra 20 years for that bad acting, and add 10 for the table slap
💯
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
These two people deserved each other. The girlfriend also knew she was dead. She’s a liar
Can we just address how this guy favors Scott Peterson??? YIKES!!
Buddy, if you have to follow up the sentence „I love my wife“ with the clarification „I didn’t cook my wife“, then MAYBE thinking you willingly harmed her is NOT SO RIDICULOUS as you want to make us believe….
Why is the girlfriend/mistress always way LESS attractive than the spouse? Anyone else notice this trend?
He needed an immediate replacement
ALWAYS!!
The mistress may be less attractive but she's still much younger
than the wife. Typically, a man leaves his wife because he wants
to be with a younger woman.
Yep!
They go for easy
True love never kills, it heals. 😢😢😢
Daughter, mistress, and this monster need punishment for their actions as they all are involved somewhat and pretty wretched
Does anyone else think this guys mug shot looks a lot like Scott Peterson???
Dudes GF is quite the little actress! This man is so sick and narcissistic!
😂😂😂😂😂he lived??!! that made me bust up
So embarrassing for him 😂
@ right? and the way they said it 🤣
He cooked her for sure. Its what he knows. Thats why he cant say where the body is. The only other theory is he doesnt want the body to be found cause her wounds would show he is lying.
This is a pretty good anti-drug ad.
He was in Wholesale...selling marijuana 🤦♀
David was denied parole on June 8th 2021.
Who knows maybe he served her??He seems very creepy
Can u imagine? Killing someone, put her in the dumpster truck and going to work, work with food and serve customers??? Wtf is wrong with those people, completely beyond discusting
Kathy is guilty also, homewrecking😅😅
Why is the girlfriend always blamed
