SO nice of you to make access more comfortable for your wife. ♡ I'll bet you've been together a long time.
I'm SO lucky to have met my wonderful future husband who was a consultant to my employer in 1985 in Atlanta.
We've built many projects together, ranging from our kitchen, to retaining walls, to our dance studio in the second story of our multi-car garage.
He leans naturally toward overengineering everything, to the point it will last through several generations.
♡ my computer geek, life partner, tool guy, partner since April 1985, husband since April 1986!

This handymom browsing for ideas to make my lifted truck more accessible for youngest son. Enjoyed the ideas here with the gate latch and the threaded inserts.

Nice job with the gate latch ! You've given me some ideas. I need to add 4 steps to the running boards of my 04 f250 super duty

Brilliant! This is exactly what I am looking for for my wife and our 1996 Dodge Ram 2500. I love the simpleness of the gate latch. Thank you, sir! You are a genius!!

The step works great. I used to have to get a plastic step out of the truck box every time my lady had to get in and out. This was a fun project, and when people see is they always chuckle.

So can this step be left down for the driver after entering? I'm an 84 year old woman whose had
hip surgery. I drive a 2011 dodge ram longhorn 2500 which is quite high. Getting in isn't so much of a problem. It's getting out

We have a winner, George McCurdy you correctly guessed a yard Gate Latch as the component that holds my step out of site. I struggled to figure out what I could use. My neighbor Steve was looking at my project and said jokingly, "you need something like a gate latch". I turned around and looked at my fence, Viola he nailed it..George I would loved to have sent you to Hawaii as a prize, but as a pensioner, I barely have funds to get me out of town. A big congrats though thanks for participating

I was thinking about using exterior RV folding steps. Mount them right on the truck. Fold them in and out easily and still have space underneath the truck.

I'm looking to build side steps for my kids to make it easier for climbing into my 2002 f150. I also want to build some lower handles for them to reach to grab as well since the stock ones are on the top of the door frame. This is definitely putting a pep in my step. You could have made the latches automatically latch when it comes down so no extra labor at all and then design it heavy enough when it release it latches back up stowed away. I love this stuff haha.

That latching device is a common household gate latch. I use to keep kids out of my back yard. reach over gate to unlatch or tie a string thru hole in gate to open from outside

Thanks Mark, you know I tried to come up with a latch for the step and could not find anything that would work how I wanted it to. Then my neighbor came across the street to see what I was working on. He was leaning on my chain-link fence and pointed at the the gate latch. We had a good laugh and the problem was solved. HaHa go figure how some things come about. It has worked flawlessly since day one.

I think adding about a 30 degree cut in the locking pins will allow you to just pull the nob and you're done. Then you just pull the two levers to lock it like you currently do. Sorry being an engineer makes you think how things can be better and easier. But I see it serves it's purpose do far

    gate latchneeds paint

    • @raywhyte7916
      @raywhyte7916  7 ปีที่แล้ว

It's galvanized Bill and I suspect the paint will just flack of in time. But good spotting, we should always try to protect bare metal. By the way, this gate latch was off my old wood fence and was out in the weather for at least 30 years, this baby was not made in china that's for sure.
