ABOUT ME
- I'm Cambodian and Chinese.
- I was born in November of 1983 and raised in Houston, although my heart lays in between Houston and Hawaii.
- "OG KPOP STAN": I've always used the term "OG" (supposedly "original gangster") to define being old-school, and I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Kpop was my coping mechanism from the bullying I experienced in my younger years and it's just stuck by me ever since. Also! Just to be clear: me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" doesn't mean that anyone who's listened to kpop later than me is inferior. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time.😄
- I was a hiphop dancer for about 7 years. I did the whole crew thing, auditioning thing, competition thing, choreography thing, dance instructor thing, so I have some experience in that field and I hope to be able to share some perspective from my experiences for y'all to see the extra things that I appreciate about a video when I point them out.
- My videos can have quite a lot of cuts in editing and/or my eyes will unnaturally blink rapidly sometimes. This is because of my neurological disease that came with my lupus nephritis (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome). My thinking abilities and speaking abilities struggle to align at times.
- Yes, that's Jack Sparrow's ring that I always wear in my videos. I've been a Pirates of the Caribbean fan ever since I rode the ride for the first time ever in Disneyland when I was a kid.🤓

to thina: they choreographed themselves until gogobebe was released. mina myoung choreographed gogobebe, and since then they've decided to focus more on dancing and have had big name choreographers to make their dances.

Thanks for letting us know ...I'm new to Mamamoo as well...can yo believe I just discover them like last week after watching the superb MV of Hwasa's Maria...now I'm a big fan of Mamamoo...the 4 of them have a killer vocal voice that is so in sync with each other...I hope to see their live concert one day...regret of discovering so late...😢

All songs starting in 2019 has been choreographed by famous choreographers. :)

I love how bad ass Solar looks in the video but behind the scenes she was getting clowned and became "Princess Pringles". The duality of Mamamoo is my favorite thing about them.

What I love about mamamoo is that they don’t need super hard choreo their stage presence and personality does it all
They used to do their choreographies by themselves until gogobebe (by Mina Myoung
) and then hip, maria, dingga and aya (by lia kim). They love to be free on stage and prioritize the live vocals, performance and interaction with the crowd so they used to have simpler choreos, but they wanted to challenge themselves and that's why they have harder chore now. I gotta say most of their choreos go REALLY well with the songs so they are really fun to watch
Interesting interpretation. The empowering "I'm going to take care of myself" message is important but the lyrics are more about "If you're going to be egotistic then do it yourself. I'm outta here." lol
Egotistic is a perfect example of MMM choreographing a visually engaging, groovy dance that allows them to use hand mics and sing well on stage.
This is the Summer/Red title track in the 4 Season 4 Color project and Red = Passion in the 4S4C color scheme. I think it's the best example of a 4S4C theme in an MV - each member portrays her own red-hot response to the egotistic lover and the choice of latin pop & reggaeton with the Spanish guitar intro is a perfect way to express the passionate feelings that inspired the song. It's like we get four stages of leaving an egotistic lover: anger (Moonbyul tossing the chair), defiance (Hwasa staring down the jaguar), revenge (Wheein burning his guitar and dancing in the flames), and liberation (Solar flying on the pole).
Hwasa's Maria is fantastic. Highly recommended for a reaction.
Wheein's Expression and acting in this MV is so good that makes you wonder why she is not doing dramas.

Your description of Egotistic is fresh! I think they actually described the song as admonishing a lover who only cares about themself. Like, “if you’re just gonna be egotistic, then go, I don’t need you” type of vibe. However, your description lines up perfectly with Moonbyul’s solo song “Selfish,” which tells people it’s not wrong to be a little selfish. Seulgi of Red Velvet features on the track. Generally speaking though, Mamamoo’s songs are very empowering to women. It’s why their fan base is overwhelmingly female compared to many other girl groups.
Also fun fact: that fire was real, not CG lol. They said the inside of their nose was black once filming was done. 😅
It would be cool if you checked out the members’ solo works! I’m keen to see what you think of Moonbyul’s Eclipse + Choreography, since it is a big departure from what you would expect a female soloist to release. :)
When I first watched Egotistic, my first thought also was “i wanna learn this dance”. And I did. It’s such a cool song and a cool choreo. Love those four ladies.

bicho malo literally means bad bug, but the best translation would be 'nasty piece of work' which makes the song so much better

they choreographed almost all of their songs (including egotistic) except for their recent songs starting from 2019. That's when they started to hire Lia Kim to choreograph their dance!
Also little heads up for future reactions to the mamamoo MV. Better watch their mv on the official Mamamoo channel bc a lot of older vid don’t have any subtitles but the Mamamoo channel has.

They've been so heavily criticized for their choreo it's nice to hear your appreciate their technique and effectiveness. I know so much of kpop is about the one up choreo but I love what they do and how their moves have always showcased them well. That chorus move you love, I hate when broadcasts crop them at that part because I love that move too!

People say Mamamoo can't dance, and yet Mamamoo has been creating very appealing choreography for years. They choreographed all their title dances until gogobebe, and if that's not talent, I don't know what is.
full moomoo and I've never fully appreciated the egotistic choreo so thANK YOU, it looks so much better in full without jump cuts and transitions. they're such great performers

Their choreos aren't super hard bc they focus more on always singing live, and their songs are not the easiest to sing. This talented goofy queens. I truly strongly very recommend watching their Hip MV and Dance Practice. Really.

Love Egotistic, one of my fav songs for sure. I love how it’s basically about telling an Egotistic person that they don’t need them. Though out this video, Solar was out to kill me with her visuals... Love that they have to choreo they own songs until Hip. Like I know Byul did a lot of the Mr Ambiguous choreo. I loved watching the 3 part Hip special video where they were learning the choreo. It shows how hard working they are while also showing their chaos. You should check out some of the Angel Line stuff with Solar and Wheein, mainly Angel.
I charged myself with learning Byul’s parts in the chore for all their songs I could find choreo videos of staring with Egotistic, Hip and Dingga. Still working on getting it to the muscle memory I have for many Monsta X songs when it comes to the member I focused on.. mostly Shownu. Also going to try to learn some Dreamcatcher choreo of Siyeon or Dami’s parts.
I recommend you watch Starry Night and Hip dance practice too. 🤗

The song title in Korean translates literally as "I do you" (though the context for Koreans is a bit different than English). This m/v is what got Solar started on pole dancing, it's a whole thing now (and Gfriend Yuju did it in Mago m/v too, they like Mamamoo sunbaenims). Bicho malo means bad bug in Spanish, an annoying person who won't go away buzzing around you like a bug. Hip and Egotistic are my personal #1 and #1 songs from them and many other moomoos. And major chapters in Moonbyul's ongoing love-hate relationship with chairs.
I love that the fire they danced in at the end was real fire and not CGI. QUEENS.

Great reaction and review of egotistic, well hope you can react to starry night so you can see both song at MAMA 2018 all mamamoo members had they solo part and include that 2 songs in that iconic stage. Ah yes, what a different take on the lyrics but I totally see what you mean. I guess it could go both ways because in the end the girls (or the singer) is being "egotistic" of themselves and therefore setting themselves free of a selfish lover.
Everyone's already said it, but any professional choreographies happened on Gogobebe and after (HIP, Hwasa's Maria and Aya). And all of those have been with 1Million dance studio. I think they're sticking with them, it's definitely a good fit imo
Xthina, You should check out the Aoa version of this song on Queendom you'll absolutely freak out when you see it. Each band had to cover another bands song and AoA did Egotistic and Mamamoo did Aoa's Good luck.Both songs are amazing.

The song calls is about the ex who is egotistic, who is self-centered, and they're done, hence taking back their own power and saying "Go away!" And btw, this is only 1 of 2 (so far, the other being Aya) Mamamoo dance practices that are actually serious.
