A moving rendition of the Statler Brothers' More Than A Name On a Wall by Dailey & Vincent with Jimmy Fortune at the NC State BGF in Marion, NC on August 15, 2013.
One of the most beautiful and patriotic songs I’ve ever heard so true and done with such feelings my brother inlaw passed away in 1985,and he was a veteran and how he loved his country
In memory of my dear friends who served in Nam and came home Gerald Reynolds and Jack Downin True heroes thank you Dailey and Vincent for the tribute ❤ !!!!!
There were so many of my age bracket who were in the military and went to Viet Nam. Thank you all very much for your service, from a 75 year old woman!
There are not enough words for the gratitude I have for this song. I have the original (taped for me by the co-songwriter, John Rimel)... We (family) have seen Jimmy perform this song many many times, first with the Statlers and then with Jimmy as he toured on his own. Having lost my favorite cousin and my very best childhood friend in 'Nam (the former on Feb 11, 1969, the latter on Feb 25, 1969 - a short 2 weeks apart) the song always moves me far beyond tears. I do have copies of the sheet music and the CDs signed by John and Jimmy. They are treasures that will pass on to my daughter, who has been with me for every performance and visit with the songwriters. Thanks, Jimmy and John, for the most moving song to ever pay tribute to veterans (Vietnam vets and all vets) and especially to the men and women who have sacrificed their all for our country and our freedoms. God Bless every vet and family and Jimmy and John.
I want to go to that wall before I die. For some reason when I was in Washington I couldn't go. I have seen the traveling wall. But there is just something about that Wall. I have friends that died in my arms whose names are there written. One could have been mine. I am afraid that I would find mine, after what had happened to me. All the names on that Wall each and everyone is American heroes to me. God Bless each and every one of them...
What a powerful song, the lyrics touch the hearts of many people. My husband's name is not on the wall. He was wounded in Vietnam, a purple heart receipient. Even thought his body returned, much of him remains in the jungles. To have lost a loved on in war, what a loss. When I see the pain and grief on the face of Jan Howard, it brings home again how ugly war will always be.
We do not give enough credit to our Vietnam Vets. They went over there and it was pure HELL. I served 28yrs but in the 80s through 2014 And what I saw was horrible, but I could have never gone to Vietnam. Never.
Vets are to be honored with the upmost respect from every american that walks on this earth,so its is my honor to say thank all of you present and past, you all are my heroes and may god bless each and every one,we love you,
I absolutely love this song! The first time I heard it, I was playing with Jimmy's brother, Tony, and Bennie Dodd at a Gospel Bluegrass show, and they called this song. I had never heard it, and it made me tear up while I was playing it.
For my friend, Don Ware, who died in that awful place. I still think of you often. Never forgotten, sweet friend.
