How to use Andriod Auto on the Pioneer NEX radios

- In this video we show you some of the features that using Android Auto give you. You can do your music, maps and more right from your phone. One thing to know about using Android Auto on the NEX, you phone has to be plugged into USB2 to work. Android Auto is only available on the AVIC 4200, 7200, and 82000NEX.

what all android apps are supported by pioneer nex series ? fr eg: TH-cam with video??
I was told when I got my 8200 that the NEX uses GPS satellites and android auto triangulates cell towers... in my experience, both are pretty close in urban and suburban areas.The difference becomes obvious when your 100 miles from nowhere in rural BFE and cell phone loses signal...
Can you play Netflix and youtube on the Pioneer through Andriod Auto?
I believe you can if you run thru hdmi to screen mirror.
Great video Guys, I like Android Auto's UI much better that Car Play, it is just more colorful and more pleasing to my eye. Keep up the great work. I actually had a 4200 but I just wasn't really happy with the low resolution screen but they are all like that as far as I know.
Yeah most of the screens are 800 by 480 kind of sad

I use Android auto and I was wondering if I were to plug in the apple USB cable also and use that one just for Flash Drive Music, and play music only on it. Then if I were to plug in my android phone at the same time could I still use android auto, Or is it just one cable at a time no matter whats plugged in?

Ive already successfully paired my phone to 4200 bluetooth and plugged my phone in to USB2 using the provided Usb extension. when i plugged my phone in it began to charge but nothing else happened. I've installed the android auto app too. what am I missing?
Make sure you phone is fully up to date with all firmware. Call you service provider and make sure Android Auto is active on that phone, just because you can download it does not mean it will work.
Thanks! After checking through my phone I found I had disabled some of the google play services. Once they were enabled and updated, I was able to connect. You guys are a great help!

Why is the ask google button on the right, shouldn't it be on the left for more convenience, easier access?
Yes that was my thought too. The only reason it may be on the right is Apple's is on the left.
Also thought of that, since apples loves filling law suits.

Hi, help me choose a deck. I want a flip out,android for navi 6 band eq minimum.3 channel rca out (f/r/sw)all plugs, like the usb plug must be in the back. I hate the wires dangling in the front.

It has a HDMI input so you can plug in a MiraCast dongle and screen share your maps. This video is not using that radio but will show you how MiraCast works

+Five Star Car Stereo Thank you for your fast reply. That HDMI Miracast kinda sucks. Whole point would be to throw everything in the glove box and not have to touch it. Just like the radio in this current video.

I can not get AA to start at 4200. I have paired devices. AA automaticálly starts on the phone when connects to 4200 over bluetooth but then nothing happens. I have usb debuging enabled. awhat it can be?
are you using the cable that came with the phone? Do you have it plugged directly into the Pioneer usb2
I found the reason. Upon initial setup I did not set up smartphone connectivity options right.
When I reinitialize 4200NEX I got smartphone menu again and picked following options:
-Other
-USB2
-Launch Android Auto
Now it works as supposed.

What's the biggest SD card or hard drive you can use with these Pioneer units? I have the 4100
I would stick around a 8, 16, or 32 gb
+Five Star Car Stereo I have a SanDisk 128gb micro SD in mine at the moment. I'm prepping a 500gb Seagate slim drive now. I think I can go bigger the only draw back is that Mixtrax takes a bit longer to load and analyze the songs.

I found it. it is actually under the radio behind the climate control panel. a little challenging to get to but not too bad.

Yes it's paired and yes getting audio but the spotify and Pandora aren't in the music section on Android auto. Scratchy my head why that is
Hey guys, all the videos on the 4200 have been great! Really helped me with the installation and getting to know android auto
. I did run into an issue that i can't resolve just yet. I don't get any sound from the google voice button (the mic at the top right of android auto) whenever i click it, receive a call/text, hear the other person on on the call, maps directions, etc. Im using a samsung galaxy s6 edge paired to the 4200 via usb cable on usb2. I currently don't have my front speakers installed...could that be a reason? Music plays from my phone and the mic connected to radio works as the other end of the call can hear me and google voice plays the songs that i ask for.
Any help would be appreciated thanks!!
The missing front speakers is the problem. All the Bluetooth voice comes though the front channel. Thanks for watching!

Does it work if you have USB Type C as your phone port?
+Josue Solis it is supposed to, Pioneer has a tech paper on their site if you look up this radio. You have to use a certified cable
My andriod usb-c works just fine with whatever cable I have. I did see the report that the 8201, which I have, has issues with usb-c. I did not encounter any.

firebirdude2 yes I would agree 100% unfortunately PAC does not make everything. So those are the odd ball necessary evils we have to carry. That is why they are on the bottom and hidden in the corner.

just wondering why you say you'll toast the phone if you use navigation for a long time? I use my phone all the time for very long trips (not hooked up to a radio with android auto). why would hooking it up to this unit be any different?

Biggest benefit to getting the NEX's w/ navigation is that you're not using up the data on your phone. While some people may have unlimited data, the service providers will eventually throttle bandwidth after a set amount of data used. For short trips, Android Auto/Carplay is amazing.
Hmmm, I'm very confused, I've been using an LG V20 plugged into my avic8400NEX (USB port #2) for over a year but suddenly, I cannot get Android auto to connect using port #2. I pulled the head unit out and switched the USB cable (and the extension cable) to try to isolate whether there was an "open" (disconnected connector or broken wire) in the cable, but that did not help. I also re-installed Android Auto on my LG v20, but that did not help either -I'm stumped! Any ideas?
Why would pioneer make something that will toast your phone?
I have the 4200 and the talk button doesn't work on the android auto. Please help mic works perfectly with Bluetooth but I'm stuck to why the talk button won't work
I have the 4200nex i have aa downloaded bt on and synced and usb in usb #2 And have the s7 edge my usb icon will not highlight. when I plug in the usb to my phone a message shows up "no response" what is the issue? very frustrating.

why does my 5200NEX show and android symbol if it will not work with the android auto?
It is for Android music play back. Android Auto rules say it will only work on a 7" screen as of right now
Maybe I didn't here correctly, but this wont work for 8000nex or the 8100nex then?

My 8200nex has a bypass unit installed. Whenever I connect and open up Android Auto on my S6 through USB 2 port, I get a message on my phone that says "STOP: Android Auto will resume when your car's parked. Already parked? Engage the parking brake." The problem is I am parked with my parking brakes engaged. Apple Car Play connects just fine with USB1. Does anybody have any ideas why my phone would think that the car is in motion, thus not allowing me to access the Android Auto app? Please note that I have also tried hooking up an S7 and Note and both appear with the same messages on their phone also. I'll be borrowing a few other Android phones to figure out if this is a Samsung issue or a wiring issue. Thanks!
Also had issues with Motorola and Lg phone so it has to be the head unit or wiring.

I have the 7200NEX. Just got it all set up with Android Auto. I can hear guidance from Google Maps/navigation. But, when I try to play music (Spotify) I can't hear anything. Any ideas?
GameSpin yes check yours phones settings for BLUETOOTH audio out.

J. Travis Loyd I have one from a previous pioneer model that was installed 10 years ago. I believe I purchased a pioneer one (I still have a working iPod classic). I haven't purchased this model yet so no clue if the same cable will work.
ok. Thanks. I have a gen 3 ipod touch. will give it a shot and see what happens. These videos have been great. I've got the radio assembled. Harnesses are connected (soldered and heat shrinked) just need to pull the factory unit out and remount. Should be about 30 mins.

Right, there is a display adjust I don't know if it will help on Android auto. In the system adjust select picture adjust. More information on page 48

+mixterioxo we have not had any issues using the new Samsung 8 phones that have the largest firmware. You may want to check your cable. Make sure use the cable that came with the phone.
