The tasklist was on the surface so I was reading off it. I used the iPad so I wouldn't have to take my surface away from where I was reading the script from.
bc is an incredibly powerful utility, it was showing zero decimal places as a default, you can type scale=2 to get 2.d.p precision. You could try scale=1000 and every result will be displayed to 1000 decimal places. I typically type bc -l which defines the standard maths library which will give you the no.of decimal points on the result depending on how many are needed, to a maximum of about 20. I believe bc used to be a wrapper to dc (desk calculator) which requires you enter in reverse
I had to add a high feather effect at points due to poor lighting and lack of a real green screen. I'm seriously using a semi light blue/green bedsheet to do these and you can tell...
The intro is to give background info about the operating system before the test. These videos should be educational as well as funny and fun. If you don't like the intro just skip it :)
You should see what she thinks of iOS 7 on your iPad, I'd wait for the full release though. I have the beta and its good on the iPod and iPhone, but the iPad seems a little rough.
Yay! BC! This may be surprising, but that is actually my favorite calculator application. I use it all the time on my Linux computer. You can do all sorts of stuff with it.
OSFirstTimer, you are incorrect on one point where you said that you'd have to go to the file browser (Finder) to open an application every time. Not true as you can make alias, which is a shortcut. And, you also had a program called the Launcher, similar to the Dock.
I'm not really a laptop person but check out the MSI GT70 2OD-039US 17.3" Core i7-4700MQ/32GB DDR3/NV GTX780M - Dragon Edition 2 Laptop. It's apparently a good (but pricy) gaming laptop if you can afford it :)
apparently it's vmware, and I actually found like 5 minute after asking a virtual machine, now if I just can find why it crashes when trying to play a sound
Just so you know the correct pronounciation is Mac O S Ten. X means ten, so that's why the X is there. This is why some people mispronounce Mac O S Ten as Mac O S X.
...polish notation (1 push, 2 push, + action, result returned = 3), which is how maths is done by most software under the hood. The CPU can add and mult but if you're dealing with values stored in positions in memory, they're pushed on to the stack which is then acted again. Anyway... bc is now a powerful arbitrary precision tool which is stonkingly fast, try something like 2^32768 (two to the power of 32768) which returns a huge value. Try doing that in win8's calc.exe :)
David seijas: she has already tried Xubuntu but not open suse. Os first timer: I am a big fan of this channel a big big fan I also liked your astral phaser channel can you please finish your let's plays please.
They definitely shove stuff down people's throats, like the Mac hardware which you can't do anything to and everything related to the mobile devices. But I think the Mac OS is pretty good these days, especially if you run it on a powerful and customizable Hackintosh that you can build for fairly cheap.
As far as I can tell, some version of Rhapsody, or a successor, is running on the PowerPC Macs at a former school. This video gave me a nostalgic feel. It's funny to see kids using something that nobody develops for anymore, and the schools refusing to do anything about it. *Cough NetBSD, *Cough Gentoo *Cough PKGBuild *Cough. Eh.
I agree with HunterJFields comment, "Get her to try Windows 8.1 Preview." That should be your next video.... I'm wondering how she would react on this operating system...
Frank Boyd Those 'everyones' are clueless, piece-of-crap HIPSTERS! milan hofman It has NEVER officially been pronounced "OS EX", it has and always will be OS TEN as in the version after Mac OS 9 with a roman X/10/TEN.
Your mom's a delight in these videos. How awesome that she participates in these experiments.
Spotlight was introduced with Tiger in 2005 :)
The calc appears to lose the fraction part....506/3 is actually 168.66666666....
Hey you have tought me so many thinks OSFirstTimer. Thank you for all the Info!
So different, yet so familiar still. You can clearly see the macOS/NeXTSTEP DNA in it, though things have changed a lot still
It was a while ago... I don't remember where I got it anymore.
Sorry, copied the description from the previous video but forgot to change that... I changed it now though :)
i love this channel i'm subscribing
22:07 They still haven't updated the stickies app. it's still the exact same thing, minus being ported to ARM
The tasklist was on the surface so I was reading off it. I used the iPad so I wouldn't have to take my surface away from where I was reading the script from.
Like the classic UI look.

I heard you can never get a virus on this OS. (Or run any programs.)
***** :D

I decided on keeping it on the bottom, but with the automatic appearance when you put the mouse there, as well as small icons. It looks really sexy.
Yay! BC!
This may be surprising, but that is actually my favorite calculator application.
I use it all the time on my Linux computer.
You can do all sorts of stuff with it.
Never knew about rhapsody! Cool video, was this part of the software for the xserve servers?
The "roll-up" thingy is called window-shade.
Customization on this was pretty wild
Very interesting that the way it shuts off is trying to make itself crash by deactivating the CPU.
Is the Surface Better?
Also you have tought me so much in my time on your channel!
How did you get rhapsody working? I've always wanted to try it
technical intro i like it and plus i like to learn alittle about an computer everyday otherwise an os
23:58 is My favourite part 😂
"Which stands for basic calculator" .."or before Christ" LMAO
It's the acid trip theme for Rhapsody 5.1 by Diana

lol. The first OS i'm aware of that doesn't have a graphical calculator.

well he wont have her try it because she tried the pre release version
apparently it's vmware, and I actually found like 5 minute after asking a virtual machine, now if I just can find why it crashes when trying to play a sound
OSFirstTimer : i can't find rhapsody the download file, where do i find it.
i have been searching for a while and i don't find it?
Sadly yes...
Yea!! We're going old school and seeing if parents can still remember the tunes of... oh, wrong Rhapsody. :(
U could create a shell script that runs the calculator app in the terminal
it would be nice to know what happened to NextStep.
There's a spelling mistake in that hidden message!? I can't find it... :/
iMessage
"When I say the next I mean the previous" lol
You know of any way of having an OS X 10 os for PC hardware to make a hackintosh?
Just so you know the correct pronounciation is Mac O S Ten. X means ten, so that's why the X is there. This is why some people mispronounce Mac O S Ten as Mac O S X.
***** It is not pronounced Mac O S X, it's pronounced Mac O S Ten.
true
The X is a play on the X11 window system on Unix, Max OS X is apple's window system (and everything else) which sits on top of UNIX
I couldn't agree more. 8 was king as far as I'm concerned. X is garbage. I'm on Linux now, but only because Be isn't around anymore either.
OMG didn't realize you were so young
Your mom is a real trooper will you buy her a cup of coffee for me? Great job Philip and a bit of a history lesson on Apple.
You should test openSUSE and show how good the OS is.
Look for a rhapsody dr2 torrent
when rhapsody crashed, the video crashed too LAWL
Every OS Diana customizes with color turns radioactive :D
Hey OSFirstTimer, another great video where do you find all the .iso files for the OS from?

I laughed so hard when she said "Before Christ". Good one
Hey, there's new beta release of Elementary. Care to check it out?
wow what your home country? mine is wellington new zealand
How do you learn how to use all these mostly obscure operating systems?
hey i live in wellington new zealand it was huge the printer fell off the desk!
How did you get Rhapsody to run? It freezes whenever I launch an application. Running in VMware Fusion 5 Professional on my Mac mini.
Mum Tries Out Mac OS 9
Ever tried MenuetOS?
I always mishear "Rapsody" as " Rap City"
Tom Tomace they sound similar so I don't blame you
Hello OSFirstTimer, what virtual machine software did you use in this video?

how did you managed to install it, I spent like a whole year trying to figure out how to do it and I still don't get it!
what OS diana liked most?
You seriously need better lighting in order to have a better chroma key and not to "disappear" on video.
Can you test Kali Linux please?
OSFirstTimer was early to the Forkknife game
How did you create a Mac OS X virtual machine?
Download VMWare
Its What OSFirstTimer Uses :)
+tech OS Dude learn to spell. :/
You need to post your videos fater.

Is this a real Mac?
Is it just a Linux Distro?
Caught on a bug splat,
No escape from the operating system.

13:42 Would you like a standard or express relationship? :3
Why?
I put my taskbar on the side. It feels like I'm on Ubuntu! :P
Mac OS TEN not 'ex'/
True, but today, everyone pronounces it OS "X".
Frank Boyd it use to be OSX but it has recently bin "renamed" to OS "TEN" (listen to the keynote )
