Avenged Sevenfold have a wide variety of genres within their own discography. A little piece of heaven can definitely paint an alarming image of the band as a first song to hear, but I can assure you guys they have songs that can be enjoyed from die hard metal heads to casual listeners. I’d recommend “bat country” “exist” and “coming home”
Or "Seize the Day", it's a really soft song that I think they'd appreciate.
Trust me this is more of a Halloween song, their other stuff isn’t nearly as graphic

MTV banned this on both TRL & Headbangers Ball back in the day because parents bitched so much and Headbangers Ball was a place where MTV would play new metal music videos they aired this once on Halloween.

Loved the reaction even though you were grossed out! lol but yeah this song wasn't really meant to be taken seriously they wrote it for fun. It's a unique story and a different kind of love song plus they wrote it for a Halloween album they were working on but scrapped the album but kept this song. I think you'd definitely like their more serious/tamer songs. You should check out "So Far Away" which was written for their drummer that had passed away.
I can without a doubt agree that this isnt the first song of theirs you want to listen to. Something you may or may not know though was that this song and video were the ideas of James "The Rev" Sullivan, the bands first drummer and co founder. He wrote a lot of the music and lyrics and was an overall genius. Sadly, he passed away December 28th 2009. His last project was an album the band was working on at the time, which would become the album Nightmare. If by chance you would like to check out some other works, Id recommend Almost Easy or So Far Away.

The song is about struggles in a relationship. The man hurts the woman ( emotionally ) , then the woman hurts the man ( emotionally ). eventually they come togother and are happy again. the drummer of this band just went with a twisted way of expressing it lol. so yeah, the video is crazy and they lyrics too. but its actually just a simple love song in the end.
That's funny. Now I grew up listening to hip-hop and only hip hop and the first time I heard this song like 13 years ago or something like that I had the same reaction. But and I listened back to the song It's amazing the instruments, the lyrics, the song is a metaphor it's all symbolic the overall sentiment of the song. I watch the making of this song and you realize how much was put into it if I remember correctly the woman's voice in the end is not actually a woman it's the guy who wrote the song

Yeah, no offense but the reason this has 400K+ likes is because it's a tim burtonish type of weird love story, not to be taken seriously at all. It's very different from all of their songs, even sung differently, what IS a masterpiece about this song which you guys should have addressed is the harmonys + violins and melody layering. Think of this like that netflix show "You". The director said, "At the end of the season I wanted everyone to feel guilty for rooting for the main killer because he was so likable" and thats the same idea here. The song is catchy and enjoyable as a piece of music but you'll feel "guilty" liking it, and that was their point, so you gotta think outside the box here.

The backstory of the song was the rev was the drummer for a7x he was the drummer for a horror band before joining a7x and he asked m shadows if they could try something a little darker and the rev wrote this song he said it was just supposed to be a fun dark song he passed away from accidental drug overdose
The guy got mad the girl laughed at him when he proposed And pretty much like the old saying goes if I can’t have you nobody can so he stabbed her ate her heart because in his mind she was a heartless bitch then has sex with her corpse he got a heater for her thighs because corpses are usually cold... so next part he was sowing her up so she wouldn’t fall apart.. he didn’t put her heart back in.. her soul came back and possessed her body to get revenge and she done the exact thing to him.. so now they are both in hell he’s begging her forgiveness and they go get married in hell and kill a bunch of people if she would have said yes then all of this would have been avoided I love seeing reactions to this song... You should really react to the album version (not music video) of Beast and the Harlot. It will open you up to the regular sound of Avenged Sevenfold, although they're a very diverse band and most of the songs dabble in different metal and rock subgenres.
