I did NOT realize how small of a creator you are because I’ve been rewatching these videos all the time. You deserve waaaaay more recognition that you have
I cannot stress enough how happy I am youtube has recommended you to me. Your Style of explaining worldbuilding is fresh and unique. I really like how instead of just giving advice you show a way to use said advice without being to constricting and leaving open alternate paths. I have found great success following your general guidelines while changing a few things. For example my Greater Deities are Primordials all associated with one of my Fundamental Forces and Eldritch Deities associated with two opposed Fundamental Forces. While my Lesser Deities or gods are all combinations of two or more not opposed Fundamental Forces. I look forward to more episodes of this, thank you for the incredible series and all your work!
Great to hear! I love making the videos themselves, but the thought that others are out there making their own worlds makes it even better. Happy building!
Starting that video with the feel that it will be like many of them around TH-cam . 3 minutes in and I realize how good those advice and this way of doing are. Good work !
I like the idea of asking: When do ordinary people pray? Here is a list Marriage, Birth/Fertility, Funerals, Protecting the home, Safe travel, Success in war, Harvest, Hunting, Crafting, Protect the state... etc. So IMHO a pantheon should always reflect the lifestyle and culture of the people that pray.
What software are you using? It looks so good for RPG worldbuilding. Cheers from Brazil, TH-cam has miraculously recommended your video to me, and I'm happy for it.
@@EmptyKingdoms That is barebones Microsoft OneNote! I hadn't used it before starting this series, and I've been very pleasantly surprised. I know a few people who swear by Obsidian, if you're looking for an alternative. Sorry, I misunderstood your question!
@@Russell_DM It's fine. Communication is messy, and humans are too! (Maybe that's why we communicate?) Your series is leagues beyond some major TTRPG channels, I swear (and I have years in the field, been a GM so long I've created my own game already).
I think I've become a little lost - I like the way your table is set up and provides a logical, consistent balance but I'm struggling to identify how you made your choices of the x and y axes. I watched the previous videos and there are references to phases along the x axis, but I'm still not sure why they were replaced. Similarly, when you started talking about having fundamental forces on the y axis I was thinking they'd be things like nature/magic/etc rather than their 'places' in the firmament. I'd be interested in seeing other ideas on how to apply this framework with other options, and the consequences that follow.
Sorry for creating any confusion. I certainly skated pretty quickly past the designations I gave my axes and my reasonings for them. Your Fundamental Forces can be any system of nouns that makes sense to you, and their phases (x-axis) are how they change over time. I got a bit anthropocentric and romantic with my forces, but this isn't prescriptive; if your mind immediately went to concepts like Nature and Magic as Fundamental Forces, you're right. There truly aren't any wrong answers at this stage. The foremost reason for designing Fundamental Forces is to grease the wheels of your Pantheon-building (and, to a lesser extent, to provide you with a 'Cosmological Cycle' for when you're writing your world's history). So if at any point you find one step is causing more problems than it is solving, don't hesitate to amend it or ignore it completely. When in doubt, always opt for what makes the most sense to you and what you think is coolest. Hope this helps. Happy Building!
Good vid id like to add something though In the case of more "taboo" gods like a god of death and famine i can see having a strong role in a pantheon i.e. praying that the god of famine turns their gaze from you this harvest or invoking said god as a curse against enemy nations and even the god of death aspect could be like funeral rites maybe prayer for guidance to the after life or they could be invoked similarly to a nature god's cycle of life or maybe the death god is staunchly against undead. Tldr gods are very versatile beings any can be used for differing reasons depending on the culture
Great points! I'm trying to keep everything pretty simple, but you're definitely right. And I'd never thought of the "praying they turn their gaze from me" perspective. Thanks!
Neat topic. I happen to be trying to do this same thing right now. It's tough. Fun, but tough. I'll follow along with your work! Side question: Are you using photoshop for those line drawings? I am hoping to find a cheap/free drawing program at some point.
I am using Photoshop, but I also understand Adobe's prices are bonkers. I'm going to talk a bit about it in the next video, but I'm not going to use any of PS's crazier features. The goal is for everything I do to be replicable with pencil, paper, and maybe a smartphone.
I get the idea of cyclical events, but I not a fan of your way. It staples things to a very set time placement or makes things very deterministic. In good fantasy, it's done often ad hoc with backfilling after. This seems poor, but tends to work out the best. Actual real life events like this will be VERY rough and loose. A comet may come every 80 years, a series of earthquakes every 512, an ice age every 20,000. None of these evenly divide into each other, nor are they supposed to. Therefore there's NO point where there's no chance of something bad happening. Nor is there a point where everything bad will definitely happen either.

Really enjoying your ideation process in this series! Please keep them coming! 🎉
Practical granular how-to advice to be used by DMs and writers alike. Also great narration and audio quality! Great work!
Thanks!
You're doing remarkable work with this channel - I had to subscribe! I can't wait to see what you make in the future!

It sounds to me like you have some very promising foundations of a bottom-up Pantheon!
You forgot catastrophes and disasters
it should be against the Geneva conventions for you to be this small while making such good content
I read this and thought 'damn, only a few thousand subscribers or something?' Even smaller.. I subbed!
Your comments and likes and views are working. Just discovered this channel on my feed.

@@Russell_DM Photoshop for the colored spreads/tables with the deities and their info? Or were you talking about the deities "logos"?

Interesting
**People are FAR less likely to worship real deities than fictional ones.**
