Whenever I plant or transplant a tree, I remind myself of the saying: The first year it sleeps; the second year it creeps; the third year it leaps. It helps me stay more patient.
Yes, I heard this on a different bonsai channel. Seems to be true as I planted 2 Japanese maples in the garden 2 autumns ago. They barely grew last year, this year they’re growing and I’m hoping next year they shoot!
I really enjoy watching your time lapse juniper video Jelle! The styling is quite difficult for me to visualize. I love hearing your rational for design choices, and learn a lot from your demonstrations. Lovely trees - can't wait for next year's update.
its the perfect time of year to scoop great trees for little investment, as the various supermarkets that bring in potted plants for their market, and it's time to let them clear out! Found two lovely Hinoki Cypress in 1 gallon pots, for $9. each... love it they are in the bonsai area of our garden and I'll see what we want to do with them this fall.
Hey Jelle it’s Zero the potter from our meet at the National Arboretum in DC. I’d love to see a video or even a short about the finer points in pruning juniper. Close up images of a branch and where and what you are cutting back for different stages of development and refinement. Enjoyed the video as always friend
Hello! I'm watching your channel from Russia! Thanks for the interesting content. Your bonsai videos are really interesting. Sorry for the grammar, I'm writing through Google translator ^^'
Hello, I enjoy your videos. I am wondering on the use of pond baskets. Why? Do you then grow in very wet conditions? Or are you trying to ensure tree does not have wet feet?
Hi Joe, I have diatomous earth, which is sold as kittylitter locally, as well as the branch ceramis which are just small baked clay particles. I never took the deep dive to figure out what that is..
Geen idee. Ik geloof niet dat ik ooit naar Nederland ben gegaan om bonsai materiaal te kopen. Plaza of deshima hebben vast wat staan. Danny Use in Belgie heeft vaak goede aanbiedingen.
Good work brother. But you probably should be wearing gloves when handling soil and/or various bonsai substrates. Just I've seen and researched soils and all the tiny little monsters that are in it under microscope in the lab for years and I've seen the nasty nasty and very dangerous sort of infections and such that people pick up from handling soil and potting mediums and from working in it in the garden without protection. Especially if you've got any tiny little scratches and cuts and open wounds that they could get in. Seriously bro it's better to be over careful than under, and find out the hard way. They're often very resistant to antibiotics too so.... Anyway love the content and sharing your expertise, so stay safe so can bring more. Haha. thankyou. Bri

I've tried hiring frogs to work the camera, but they make too much noise, lol!!! A really good video Jelle, thanks!!!
Love the "ugly" ones, they are so rewarding to work with
ugly is only our interpretation ;)
I find it very satisfying and calming mixing soil before potting up the tree
Great video and i am glad I held back on my version of this with Maples! We seem to be planning along the same lines more often :)
Publish them! I like seeing stuff from you as well!
I don't yet do Bonsai but am an avid fan of your channel! Your videos are wonderful, and your teaching style is brilliant, thank you 😊

I love watching your videos. They are very informative. Thank you
@@TheresaMullins-y4p thank you so much!
I like how you talk thru every tree's strategy.
I'm learning a lot thru that to. 👍
And the froggs totally agreed with your work :D Nice one again Jelle!
I always pick up new ideas from your videos. This time new ideas for my junipers.
Best regards
Peter

I also have some juniper material in a pond basket. Could have easily rushed to style it but I am sorely tempted to add some shari!
Ok 😊
Your videos are always entertaining Jelle!
Enjoy watching your videos, cheers 😊
Nice video nice trees will look good in time thanks jelle keep up the good work mate

I do like *every one* of your videos
Nice!
thx!!
Always a great video - thank you…
Does the calcium deposit tell you anything about the tree? Soil? Watering? Or your fertilising? Thank you again…
Hello, I enjoy your videos. I am wondering on the use of pond baskets. Why? Do you then grow in very wet conditions? Or are you trying to ensure tree does not have wet feet?
With 200 raindays a year, yes I live in a wet place. But pond baskets are mostly used to get artificial root tip pruning.
What does your watering schedule look like during the summer heat for your trees in thw pond baskets? Thanks

Enjoyed the video as always - but was Tony Tickle's Bury show really that long ago?
Yes it was! 2014 or so?
Fertilize heavy - what precisely is your recipe in regards to strength and frequency?
Please make more videos Jelle South Africa 🇿🇦
Have you seen all 250 I have put online already!?
Would you post your composite potting mix ? with thanks,

👍👌🙂
What exactly is "ceramic clay base"? Is it similar our calcined clay here in the U.S.?

@@GrowingBonsai Baked clay. That's pretty much like a lot of our kitty litter and oil absorbant. Thanks, Jelle.
Some day I will try again. I think I need more experience. Once I can keep the wild cedars alive, then I will get more Junipers.
You can do it!
Bonsai is like "painting" only you do one brush stroke a year... :-)
my trees are healthy and move faster than that!
Why don't you air layer instead of just cutting the branch off? you will end up with more trees.
Waar in nederland haal je goede junipers? Beetje betaalbaar
