I grew up during the civil rights movement Blacks didn't have access to the same education as,white students. I remember one black child saying how thrilled he was to have a new textbook..before that they were given old worn out text books. So I think John Wayne's comments meant whites should be in charge until Blacks had the opportunity to better themselves with a good education.

Woody Strode was a very good actor but he never got a lead role. He played Wayne's servant, and he played a racist role in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. No one made him do that. He got paid well for it. Hollywood as a whole was racist for many years. As for being anti-homosexual, That is not a bad thing because it is sickening. We should not treat anyone bad but a person never has to say it is okay.

The piece on James Stewart basically calls him a racist because one actor apparently thought he did something racist (no specifics on what) on the set of one movie. That’s pretty thin to put it mildly. He was very Conservative- and proudly so - and Henry Fonda was a lifelong friend despite being very Liberal and proudly so. They both said the secret was that they didn’t talk politics. So I think you need a lot more evidence to claim all this about James Stewart.

Although I get a TINY bit peeved [I'm too old to hold on to frustration from a million years ago] when Mantan Morland appears in a 1940s movie, I simply CAN'T STAND today's trash. From what I've noticed when I see a movie of today advertised, Hollywood feels compelled to keep pace with every Godd*mned new "identity" invented.
There are now 72 (or 76) so-called "different" gender identities [actually, there are only TWO. Chromosomes ain't woke], and I wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood creates a movie featuring ALL 72. I never view ANY of them.
In the evening, my wife and I have been trying to get through all the 4-star [IMBD-rated] 1940s. After that, we're gonna check out all the 3-star 1940s movies. Then we're going to watch the 1950s movies.

What a badly informed hatchet job on Jimmy Stewart. In Stewart's time Hollywood was almost totally run by Jewish men. And Kirk Douglas, Walther Mathau and many more famous actors of the time said, many times in public, that these powerful Jewish men could not be trusted. But Douglas and Mathau were Jewish themselves so could not be accused of antisemitism. As for Woody Strode, he mentions in his autobiography that over the course of a few movies he made with Jimmy Stewart, he found the man to be a 'kind and gentle soul'. On the other hand, Strode thought that both John Ford and John Wayne were not overly fond of black men and were very loud in making their feelings known.

I stopped watching the video there because after seeing how it accused two people known for having black and Hispanic friends, of being racists, I couldn't bare it any more. Good Day,
In my humble opinion this is nothing more than a character assassination which has become a societal norm. James Stewart and John Wayne both represented the values, morals, and traditions of my grandparents generation. The American people of that time survived a Great Depression and a World War. If not for their sacrifice we wouldn't be here to have an open discussion. This upload has inaccuracies and falsehoods which is shameful. As Americans we have a responsibility to acknowledge previous generations and defend them. My hat is off to these two iconic figures of history.

The James Stewart /Woody Strode "incident" was a trick played by John Ford on the set of "The man who shot Liberty Valance". Ford liked to bully his actors, especially John Wayne, but one day, it was Stewart's turn. Ford used Stewart's comment on Strode's outfit and make-up (which were not very good in my opinion) to ask him, before all the crew, if he was a racist! Imagine how he was embarrassed!
As far as I know, you can't say that James Stewart was "terribly racist" . From what I read about him, it seems that he was never really at ease with black people but that came from where he grew up, his education... But telling he was terribly racist...His best friend was Henry Fonda, I doubt that Fonda would have befriended a racist... Jane Fonda told that the only time his father slapped her (lightly) was when she used the word "nigger", she was a kid and didn't know the meaning of it, he told her never used it again.
According to British journalist Michael Munn who knew very well James Stewart and his wife Gloria, Stewart was hired by Hoover as a FBI informant. Hoover told him that his goal was to fight the mafia which tried, at this time, to spread its influence on Hollywood. Only Gloria and Henry Fonda knew it. When Stewart told it to Fonda, Fonda was not really happy, he told him that he was naive, that he was used by Hoover to spy on his friends and colleagues, that the fight against the mafia was an excuse...at this time, Fonda left Hollywood to Broadway, so the two friends became estranged for some years...

Yea, this video is so full of nonsense all the way down to them saying Jimmy Stewart was from Indiana, he wasn't from Indiana, he was from Pennsylvania, not far from where I live, he was born and raised in a small town called Indiana.
And that nonsense about Woody Strode was just that, nonsense, Woody never accused Jimmy Stewart of racism, I've read so many articles about the making of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Strode never did anything but sing praises for everyone involved in making the movie except for John Ford who bullied people around on the set especially Wayne who he seemed to take great delight in torturing.
This video is a bunch of lies made up for the sake of sensationalism and getting clicks for their monetary value.

But it was a sign of the times. my father was a bigot, but it was how he was raised. That being said I never heard him disrepsect or speak unkindly to anyone.
