Hi ya, I was just saying to hubby today by next weekend, typically we see the first snowfall on the mountains. The old timers always used to say, the snow would fall 9 times on the mtns before it would stay,. This is one of my favourite times of year. Stocking up the pantry and freezers, cleaning up the yard and just getting ready for winter to arrive. Great video, cheers 🌷🇨🇦
Oh my, sounds like you can relate!!! Neat to hear what the old timers would say...love that history. Thanks for watching! We are down sick today, so we are drinking our fire cider, oregano oil and charcoal....
I’ve been here since the late 1970s and I find once there is winter snow staying on the mountains it comes down in elevation about 1000 foot a week in the Mat Su area.
Dave from North Pole here. I always enjoy your videos. After fifty years in Alaska I have learned one main truth--everything revolves around being ready for winter!!! God bless your family.
Thank you. My middle son Brady took most of those pictures last winter. Very thankful he took them! I forgot just how much snow we get there...lots of work for sure. Thanks for watching!😊
Praying for a big g harvest. May God bless you with more than you need so it will carry over 👏👏. Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next video ❤
@@Alaskan6pack I love your little family. I always worked hard for what I have and these videos make my day a lot brighter. I look forward to everyone of them
Oh you are so nice. Glad our family brings a smile to your face! 😊 We are quite silly - but work so hard at the same time. We are prepping for moose hunting now. Opens Aug 25th
I've said this to many cabin build and homestead channels...... You should consider putting in an intro, like "Wild Homestead" and "Cabin River Outdoors" so new subscribers can know what's going on, how you got to Alaska, etc. I think it would help get people interested and you'd get a ton of new subscribers. Thanks!
Hey guys. You’re right. Winter will be here fastest than you know it. It’s definitely crunch time. Take care. I’m have confidence that you will get it done soon!! ❤
@@Alaskan6pack Hi. Unfortunately I can’t comment on this at the moment. If you email me I can give you an update with no problem at all. Thanks. Hope all is well. Take care. 💕

Hello family of six you all are going to pass flat tire farm in no time with the subscribers that is for sure I know they have two full time jobs but they have a TH-cam channel I am just concerned for them. I am so happy for you and your family for getting to 4.8k way to go proud of you
I cure them for about 5 days to harden then just store in a plain big box. Cool and dry area. Worked like a charm last year...! Hoping for some huge white potatoes this year!!
Greetings from Massachusetts. I have heard you mention before about your property being agriculture land. What does that mean? And why does the state put restrictions on that? If you have a video where you already talk about that could you let me know and I will watch it, I didn't see one. If not, could you do a video about it. Love watching your videos. Thank you for all the work you put into them. Wishing you all the best.
Hello there,!!! Yes our property is 160 acres of agricultural property. This means that it is "good soil" for agriculture in Alaska. Now, the requirements are this for the state. We have to clear 10% of the acreage. So this means clearing 16 acres. Now clearing means trees fell, removing stumps...basically tillable ground. This is so much work and lots of time. We also have a timeline. We have until 2026 to complete this. We have probably 5 acres already cleared. Need many more though. I do have a video that I talk about land in Alaska. I cover a few topics.. it has the float plane picture, FIND YOUR ALASKA. It was a year ago or so? It's a great video if you are looking for cheap land in Alaska.. Please feel free to ask me any more questions !😊
Absolutely. I will have a video soon on making beetkraut! Just trying to let my cabbages get a bit bigger...then potatoes are next!! Thank you for watching us!😊
@@Alaskan6pack now I am in Boston got here early in the morning to watch my blue jays play against Boston red socks for five days took my friend with me just heading out to a restaurant for dinner they back to the hotel then to the game tomorrow night I hope my team wins again I hope you had a great weekend.
Great job... Lots to do. Mid October snow yep always had first snow before my bday growing up.... Usually melted and then by mid nov it was here to stay. Wood shed still on the plan for this fall? Do you have enough wood cut ?
We are getting there on our wood... We are renting our excavator Sept 6th. So should open up so much more flat space! I will keep you posted. Moose hunting starts Aug 25th too.
Season is 30 days... Yes on our own land. That is very nice. Brady can get a harvest ticket for no cost because he is under 18 yrs old. He is an excellent shot. Hudson, Harley and Jeff will probably also hunt.
Yes you are very correct. We for sure could do that. Would be neat to have it all to potatoes. Double the crop. We have grown potatoes there 2 years in a row. I am hoping no disease. Well we will find out 2-3 weeks or so. We did apply lyme last fall
Wow! Lots to do. And that's a lot of potatoes. Will you get them all out before the snow comes ? Im not new to farm gardens and all the work that goes with it. My parents did the same and all the kids had to work. Funny, once I was an adult I won't have anything to do with any kind of gardening, planting, etc. Ok I'm done. Thanks for listening to my rant. Bye!!
Ha, that's funny. Sounds like you have put your time in girl! We will get them out by first frost. So much work went in to the potatoes... I won't have the cold frost get them! Lol
Oh yes!!! Glad I am not alone there... I agree...that would be amazing to see a bigfoot. My son Harley used to watch the Bigfoot shows and it was fun...😊
Hello Florida!!! Well hang on and if you need to cool off watch our videos probably in October we will be at freezing temps and white surroundings.... ! 😊
Funny thing, when I commented on your last video I was going to ask about getting ready for winter since AK can get snow early. Do you need any prep done on your road to the cabin? Do you need to remove the stumps off your property once dig up. Thanks for sharing. Loved the opening of this video.
Oh thank you!!! Those pics were taken by my middle son Brady last winter. So on the road no prep. For the stumps we are going to put them in a big hole I think is the plan...or something like that. So much prep for how we live. It's very overwhelming so writing a list is good. That's usually what I do...
I am interested in the story behind the zoning of the land. You said it was just trees, but it is zoned agricultural, and you have to clear it. Was it zoned when you purchased, or did you have to choose? Tell me about how that decision was made… you are living my dream there!!
Hello there! Thank you for watching. So when we purchased the property it was agriculture zoned. It's 160 acres. Through the state of Alaska if it's ag land we are required to clear 10% of the acreage. This means pulling stumps, taking trees down, etc...so not cheap! Lots and lots of labor too. I have a great video out from last year if you are truly interested in moving here and buying property. Look for the float plane thumbnail. I think it's HOW to find land in Alaska (Or something like that) Video is full of lots of websites I recommend for land, you should check it out! 😊 Thanks for watching!!! Hopefully all this helps!
Greetings! We only have Ruby at this point. We rehomed our older chickens to a friend. We felt like it was better for them because their family was home all the time. We do have to leave our property to work and make money still. This left the chickens unattended with many predators around. Again felt like they were safer with our friends. Next year we may get some pigs again. We will see... I don't like buying store bought bacon, but pigs are a lot of time and work too!
