STEELHEAD ALLEY - Fly Fishing Lake Erie Tributaries

Join Wild Trout Man on this Fly Fishing Adventure for Winter Steelhead (Oncorhynchus Mykiss). Come along for the ride with my fly fishing buddies, John and Gary, and experience the power and beauty of these magnificent fish. It had rained earlier in the week so the water was high and off color but the bite was on. Streamers and Egg Patterns were the hot flies on this cold winter day fishing the impressive Steelhead Alley of the Lake Erie Tributaries. It was fascinating to see how quickly these streams returned to their normal flow after a very heavy rain event.
Day 1 was rampaging water.
Day 2 was high and turbid water but very fishable.
Day 3 was clear water with sight fishing, but snowing. Unfortunately we had to leave early on that snowy morning because of the long drive home on slippery, snow covered roads. Please note: Lake Erie Tributary Steelhead regulations in Pennsylvania are different from New York and Ohio. Refer to each state’s specific requirements and regulations.

That was a hotspot last year behind those submerged boulders. This year the water was lower in January and that section wasn’t holding as many fish. Longer, deeper runs were more productive. 👊

These steelheads are stocked as smolts by the 3CU trout club and go into the lake to grow up. When they return, years later as adults, that's our steelhead fishery...Steelhead are too fishy to eat, C&R.
