    It may be due to the footage probably being remastered but I am always astonished how clear and sharp black and white movies and shows can be.

      It’s actually because film technology had existed for decades , then we switched to digital and that was new tech that we had to perfect.

    • @Cyber_Smoke
      @Cyber_Smoke 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah it's mainly due to painstaking remastering removing grain from both sound and picture removing cracks etc some episodes look better than others if they were recorded with video or film.

      35 mm can be remastered in 4k. So maybe, one day, we'll have the whole serie in 4k 😍😍😍

      This one is in my top 3 favorite Junji Ito stories... I've myself been plaggued by sleeping troubles ever since I was a very small child, and over time it deteriorated from insomnia, recurring nightmares, to lucid nightmares where I know I'm dreaming but can't wake up, and sleep paralysis, perhaps the worst of the bunch...
      Considering all that, Ito's "Long Dream" is obviously a special king of scary to me. And "Perchance to Dream" has always stuck with me since I was a kid.

    • @MadHatter42
      @MadHatter42 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I'd say the Batman version, but it's a bit apples-and-oranges. Both use the dreamworld to explore dual themes; in BTAS, it's the choice between what you want to be true vs what you know to be right, and in TTZ, it's the allure of the Void, both seductive and terrifying. But in BTAS, you already have Batman's character well-established, so you can go into it a lot deeper, with more personal touches and introspection into Bruce's character and psyche. With TTZ, you just get this one shot with this one character, so it's done in a more general, conceptual way.

The men were mostly refugees from Laos who had survived terrible events. The syndrome did inspire "A Nightmare on Elm Street." I am not sure if the Twilight Zone episode came before or after this occurrence, however.

    One thing that always bugs me about Twilight Zone is they stated the ages of their characters. When the actors were way older then what the narration stated.
    The actor here was nowhere near 35 years old (he was around 48) so it’s odd for them to even state the age when it’s not even that important.

      In this case it works because of how anxious and worried he is. He should appear prematurely aged since he hadn't been taking care of himself.

    They used to say a dream was almost instantaneous, but as a kid I knew they weren't! Sure enough as time went on they reversed this posit. The same with nerve transmission. They used to say it was like lightning, but I always used to wonder why when I stubbed my toe, I would have to wait for the pain to register in my brain !

    Theres also a British film from the 70s that dealt with the dream stuff that inspired inception. Forget what the name was

    That guy's supposed to be 35? Yeah, 35 going on 58. I guess all the _actual_ 35 year-old actors were busy playing teenagers somewhere.

    When your dreams seem a little too real, when you can't fathom why those images emerged from your mind, it can be thrilling or petrifying. My subconscious can be a twisted bitch.
