  • It's time for another garden tour! Typically, November is a pretty windy month in the garden and as a result it's been a little difficult to film. It's also been feeling much warmer (despite wearing a jumper in the video...) which of course has sped up the growth of plants and weeds. I've definitely got some work to do in both the cottage garden and flower farm in the coming weeks but I thought I would document what they look like now to see how they evolve! Thank you so much for watching!

    Hey there!
Welcome to my channel, The Nature Patch where I like to share all things gardening, cooking, environmental science and flower farming in my Australian bushland backyard in south coast NSW.
My name is Robyn, an environmental scientist, and flower farmer. I have recently completed my PhD in understanding how people's wellbeing and their connection to nature is impacted by land use change but now I'm taking a break from research to pursue a dream of owning a flower farm. I've always loved gardening and nature and lately have been interested in growing my own organic food!
On this channel you'll find videos relating to garden tours, 'how to' videos, composting, soil health and how to start a flower farm.
I try to upload twice a week and I hope you enjoy!!
🤎 Filmed and edited on Yuin country. I acknowledge and pay respects to Traditional Owners of the land past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Hi friends! I can't believe how much the gardens and flower farm have changed since last November! I've included a link year to a video I filmed a year ago if you'd like to see. It's so nice to look back on the progress we've made. Thanks for watching! November 2022 tour - th-cam.com/video/-eggeMXrOJQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LFhpJdaVybaLmneD

Robyn I just need to say I simply love tuning in to your videos. They are so calming and beautiful to watch. I live in the inner north west suburbs of Brisbane with a 10 month old and life is HECTIC at the best of times so tuning in to your channel is a balm for the soul 😂💕

I want blue cornflower! Stunning color and plant. Especially since it’s attracting wildlife. The red birds loved my sunflowers this year and I let them have them!

It's all looking beautiful, Robyn. Congratulations on achieving so much. It's quite a bit of land to manage. How big is the block of land you're on? It looks to be at least half an acre, maybe more.
I'm just about to start laying down a bunch of cardboard and mulch in the back part of my yard to get my food forest going. I hadn't heard of using bleeding heart as a pioneer species, but I'll look into it. Is it easy to propagate? Another I've heard of is tagasaste, which apparently also fixes nitrogen and isn't too difficult to propagate.
Thanks for the tour. It's always nice to see what's blooming in your patch.
P.S. I enjoyed the new microphone. Happily it still picks up the sounds of the birds. 😊

      Thank you so much Siobhan!
Yeah, we’re on about half an acre and it definitely does get a bit tricky to manage it all.
That’s so awesome you’re starting a food forest! Which food trees are you planting? Bleeding hearts are amazing! I would recommend checking out your local landcare or native nursery to see if they have any that have local provenance to your area. I picked mine up as small seedlings from someone who grows them so I haven’t tried starting from seed.
Glad the new mic sounded good! I love the other one for the bird sounds but hoping I can tweak the new one to pick a little more of the ambience. Thanks for watching and have a great week! 🌿☺️💐

@@thenaturepatch I've been collecting trees for a little while now. I have grafted dwarf nectarine, sugar plum, robe de sergeant plum, Washington navel orange, imperial mandarin, Tahitian lime, kaffir lime, Myer lemon and a couple that are full sized either from cuttings or the compost: Genoa fig, white peach, avocados and apples. I'm not sure the apples and avocados will make the cut. I might end up buying named varieties of these, as it's too much time and space to gamble with in the upper yard part of my quarter acre block.
I'm pretty nervous about starting it actually. I haven't yet got my head around the layout or how I might use pioneer species to my advantage. It's a fairly flat block and a smallish space, so I'm not sure if it's worth the (enormous) effort of creating swales.
I currently have 6 cubic metres of mulch obscuring the driveway after having a rotten silky oak removed last week, along with a husband who's impatient to get the driveway clear, so I might just get the cardboard and mulch down as is.
I see that you haven't made any swales on your property. Is that because you're not wanting to mess with things at your grandmother's place too much?
I appreciate seeing your patch so much. It's such an inspiration and a calming balm during busy days. 😊

I love seeing the realistic garden and I love that I’ve seen this grow from the start. Beautiful video as always and the new microphone is superb. Since we have been knowing each other across the sea since the beginning of TH-cam what do you think of doing a collab for our 10k mark? We are both very close can you believe it! We could make a set of questions for each other and both answer them since we have a lot in common with our cardboard/ hugel/ organic style gardening yet we are on opposite seasons!

Hey Dani! So glad you enjoyed the video! And yes! I’d love to film a collab with you for 10k! That sounds really fun! 😍
