      Cheers Jean! I connected with this story as it reminded me of a type of dream I used to have where I would be disorientated😵 in a night time city, giant buildings all around, lost in the darkness🌆. I must have grown out of the anxiety that caused them. 🤔😀

      Critics suggest Maupassant's declining mental health (paranoia and hallucinations) fed into his story writing, particularly ones with a supernatural theme.

      De Maupassant had syphylis.He went mad and was confined to a mental home where he killed himself. All his stories are very bleak.
