The best interpretation of Tchaikovsky's No.5 to me. I can't remember how many times I have listened to this recording but will continue to listen to it as it is just so beautiful and timeless. it will always be one of my most favourite symphonies that I will listen to forever.

I love how Karajan interprets Tchaik 5 Finale it is quite different from all the other conductors most take the beginning so march-like while Karajan stands out from the rest with his interpretation of slower beautiful legato played notes

The best T5 on record. It was a lifelong HvK specialty, and all his recordings of it are good, but he never topped these 1971 sessions. The last few minutes of the Finale are thrilling, the tension increasing (somehow) in the coda. Acoustic is perfect (JCK) and well caught by EMI engineers. Lightning in a bottle, one of Herbie's best records, period.
