nice to see Chic Anderson's family here...his words an intonement and excitement have blessed me greatly....it is a great compliment that he was up to calling races that had never been run before with great style and accuracy. what an observant and eloquently gifted man.

I'm Susan Anderson...Kelly's my sister and Chic Anderson was my father. It is such a gift to see this precious footage. I remember being in the announcer's booth watching him call the races. It was such a thrill! I have seen these telecasts at the museum of Radio and Television in NYC but now the rest of my family can enjoy them. I can't thank you enough!

@songbirdmcd1 Your Dad's calls give me chills. Secretariat fans will always love "He is moving like a tremendous machine" I am very proud of your Dad like you are.

Pincay’s actual comments before the Belmont were vastly different from what was portrayed in the movie where he says “you’re going to eat dirt today, Ronnie”. Once again Hollywood doesn’t let the facts interfere with a good story.

Susan, your Dad, Chick Anderson called the most magnificient race I have ever heard. He was in awe of Secretariat. And when an expert like your Dad is in awe it gave me goosebumps
    God Bless

Please let me tell you Susan how much I thought of your father. He was the greatest of them all and I know because I was around when he was. When I heard he had died I was deeply hurt and I missed him a lot. One of the reasons I watch these races is just to hear his voice.

I was 25 years old when this race took place...The only sporting event that EVER made me weep with joy...Such a wonderful horse, and Chic Anderson just lifted American off their easy chairs that day...I will take it to my grave.

Gosh, glad this was posted. No idea how I even found it, but it was wonderful to see Chic Anderson, the man behind to glorious call of the Secretariat Belmont Stakes/Triple Crown race. Best race ever! Chic's announcements and his thrill and excitement just made it all the more memorable. One for the ages race, and one for the ages call.

It has been said by others but this CBS broadcast team was the very best I ever saw covering a sporting event. I always considered Frank Wright the very best at giving horse racing information to the casual viewer. Jack Whittaker was the best sports broadcaster of his time. And Chic Anderson was as great an announcer as Secretariat was a horse. And I can't go without paying tribute to Heywood Hale Broun . The most literate man ever to hold a microphone.

My father and I heard your father call the race on CBS radio. Living in Merrick, NY, about 25 minutes from Belmont, we watched the telecast on tv until, just when Secretariat stepped onto the track, we had a blackout. I cursed the television fates but my father, a child of radio, got out his Sony radio and tuned in WCBS 1500 AM.
Then we listened to your father count 'em off.

This was the last year CBS Sports carried all three TC races. They did the best job of covering horse racing, in my opinion.

At 6:34, another horse shows his butt. Guess the trainers really hated sports commentators! I also liked how the commentator likened their view to the horses that run behind Secretariat! Excellent video, love the nuances of sportscasting.

And the Horse, Secretariat! After all these years, at the age of 13 (I'm giving my age!), I still, to this day, rememer being just stunned! We felt that he would win, but, for goodness sakes, he put on a show for all to see and treasure forever in our memories!

@deetjay1 i was 11 years old when it took place. Even at that age, I recognized that what I saw was amazing. and to hear all the adults speak of it for weeks an weeks afterward...they still couldn't believe what they saw. A tip for all who watch the belmont - this is racing immortality. It will live on far beyond our lifetimes. I have argue with the'experts' on track quality an breeding enough to know that Sec is still the Go-like aberration . in 38 yrs still no one close.

The pre race interviews were awesome. I liked Ron saying that it was just another race and that he had no idea how the race would go. He really had no idea he was about to ride into history.
