That Drive, depending on which state you started in, would take just as long as it would to cross the entire country of France. Personally, I have gone from Nevada to Michigan non stop (road trip obviously), for family reunions, funerals, and other get together/parties, and typically that happens every 3ish years. To show you the difference in size, I'll use my road trip experience as a comparison: Nevada to Michigan takes 32 hours NON STOP. That means that you either need to be able to stay awake the entire time, or have a travel buddy. Otherwise get ready to stop at a hotel (I've done both, depending on which person I travel with). Where as Travelling across France is a much smaller distance. How much smaller? It takes on average 10 hours From Calais in the north to Montpellier in the south, and as for across it's roughly 8 hours From Strasbourg in the east to Nantes in the west. So depending how you look at it, the road trip I take every 3ish years, or less depending on what's going on and if my mom would like to travel, is 3 TIMES further than the distance of France, or 4x further if you use North to South. Now, that isn't to say that his bit definitely makes it seem like France is much, much smaller, however a comedian usually tours America a LOT. So to be a foodie, like him, and go from America where you have nothing original, just people trying to recreate the food, versus being 45 minutes away from the home land of many of those recreations is a huge deal. I mean, he could tour the entirety of France and never get close to how many miles he's travelled in the US. Hope this clears things up for you.

It takes me 20 minutes to drive to my Local grocer. And Europeans can drive to another fucking country and eat authentic cuisine in double that time. If I drove 45 minutes in literally Any direction, not accounting for staying on the roads or obstacles, literally just perfectly straight, no turning at all, I'd still be about 2-3 hours away from any of the connected states. I moved a couple years ago, by car, it took me about 3 days of driving about 10 hours each day, to travel thru 2 1/2 states.
