  • It is a simple process to use Sonar from both an Active Imaging 3-in-1 or 2-in-1 and an in hull pod transducer for the best results. Often times transducers that are mounted external will provide a better image and fish detection that a transducer that is mounted inside the hull of the boat. However that external transducer will not track bottom when your boat is running at high speeds. This video will show you how to select the proper transducer for your desired conditions.
This video applies to Lowrance HDS Pro, HDS Live, and HDS Carbon models. Or the S3100 module or SonarHub as well depending on the transducer configuration.

Great video Gary ! I haven’t even used my 2d from my HD 2in1 yet but I’m gonna try it. But actually my thru hull is pretty darn clear 👍

      Thank you.
The 2-in-1 only has down and side imaging. There is no sonar transducer built-in. I noticed on the St Lawrence that when I was using my 3-in-1 (external) that I could see fish stacked on top of each other. When I looked at them on the in-hull transducer, it was just a thicker blob on the screen. But I usually just stick with the in-hull most of the time.
My thru hull is clear when I have the setting right. Somehow I must have changed it on Champlain when I was changing the surface clarity. It is just not as sensitive.

Something that help me with this was to actually name the transducer as well in the settings

Thanks, I'll see if that works for me. I did something similar on the S3100 module. And yes that would help.
And thanks for watching the video!

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I went into the Sonar settings and named the in hull transducer. That worked great.

I like it when I help people and I appreciate it when people help me as well. Thanks for the compliment too. I try to put out videos that people want/need help with. I might over the winter do a full video on naming the units and transducers too.
