    You could mention Marko Ivković, guy killed in Instanbul, by Galatasaray fans in front of arena, because Galatasaray didn't want to give one part of tickets for Red Star fans, and Turkish police didn't reacted appropriate for occasion

    fun fact, greek media found it very mature and civilized of us (Greek here) that for the pao-oly game in oaka there was no shield behind the players benches 🤯
    also foreign media found it weird that there were empty seats behind oly bench in the recent game between them... I guess now you know why 😅
    btw the worst clashes dont actually happen in football and basketball games, but in volleyball, polo, etc... since those clubs have branches in multiple sports and security is a lot of times less tight in a womens volleyball game for example (just like wheelchair basketball in turkey)

    To be fair, things have become a bit more quiet here in Greece over the past year. Of course the "small" fact that a police officer was killed by a naval flare during a volleyball game and a few fans were murdered by opposing team hooligans the past couple of years (these were incidents involving soccer not basketball) plus the fact that the government finally decided to threaten the teams with some major consequences if things get crazy again has most likely played a part.

    and the biggest brawl between players Aris - Besiktas '96

  • @Sonic-di9pj
    @Sonic-di9pj 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +5

    Greek journalists have a major role in that. I remember an Olympiacos journalist saying "I dont want to see them celebrating in our stadium", implying the game should be stopped by hooligans if they (very predictably) lost.

    • @captainzeppos
      @captainzeppos ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Sonic-di9pj 99% of these guys are neither real proper journalists, nor sports writers. They are first and foremost hardcore fans of their team who also pretend to be writing articles. They also know very little about the sport they're reporting on, as they've never played professionally.
      They are allowed to be writing for numerous media so they have a legit platform to spread their ideas and how their uber-team was slaughtered by the referees etc. The funny part comes when the chief editor of the same media starts whining about how fans have turned to hooliganism and ponders the media's generic responsibility in all that, instead of kicking all these fan-writers out (ναι, Σαμπράκο του gazzetta, για σένα τα λέω).

    You know you're in Europe when that excellent video doesn't contain 1/10th of the major incidents that have occurred in basketball arenas over the past 20-30 years. Proves that in Europe every derby is a goddamn war, as opposed to the indifferent circus that is the NBA. It's unfathomable that you can go back to watching NBA after you have experienced a single European derby.

      Explosives used to be the least of problems, when fans in the 90s were throwing metal bracelet watches, coins by the handful, bricks, wooden beams, even knives at the court. Back then no one cared about explosives. I won't forget a story about the late Jack McCloskey (GM of Detroit Pistons) scouting a game in Athens back in the late 80s, at a very small court of capacity less than 1000 (called "The Indian's Tomb", don't ask why). I think it was Panathinaikos vs. PAOK. When he saw the riot police he was wondering "what are these guys with the helmets and shields doing in here?!" Then the first explosives went banging and McCloskey was like "let's get outta here, they're shooting at us!" LOL that was awesome, that was some proper rite of passage.

      No. It's important people are aware of this shit. Greek, Serbian, Lithuanian Doesn't matter where the fans are from, none of this is normal civilized behavior.
      Whilst the Greeks have realized and gotten better in the last few years, The Serbs keep trying to see how long before they get kicked out of euroleague permanently.

      It's an entertainment we aren't even playing. Wow.
      That right there is why they talk about Greek fans and not Spanish fans. Ever notice how those clips never include Spaniards?
      What do you think this is? Theater? Why do you think they call it a "Home Field Advantage"?
      Also what makes you think that you have manners and we don't? How do you know that they didn't insult our manners or even our intelligence with what they did on the pitch?
      Last but not least, and because I have a recent example on this in a match between AEK and Promitheas. Even if you play the "customer in a cinema" card. I expect to see pure basketball for 40 minutes.
      No dodgy decisions, no coaches reacting to a right call, no players provoking the fans by their hand gestures.

    I like clubs that can manage to find the middle ground between "no supporters, only customers seating where we tell them, next to supporters of the other team, eating and drinking and playing with the jumbotron during the game" and "lighting flares indoors, throwing metal and glass at players and opposing fans, looking for fights". Many Partizan games impressed my with their atmosphere without turning violent, but the derbies are too explosive. It seems to me like the Spanish league and the German league find this middle ground. I'm French, the French league lacks atmosphere and has a bit of a clash of the generations, with either elder "villagers" from southwest France playing music, or younger, more urban fans, blasting hip-hop. But all the games I've been to were pleasant, non-violent, and had good vocal support for the teams without the need of fake chants through the speakers like in the NBA.
