    Second to Stockton Fire, these underfunded Firefighters are the best in the business. They do exactly what needs to be done QUICKLY. The can show the well funded big agencies how it is done for sure. Bravo to San Berdo County.

      agree 100%.....other overpaid, non-fire fighting agencies should take note.....

    Great C&C (from my armchair), dadgum textbook venting. To be picky, the jump cuts on the vent shots were slightly distracting.

    Great top side work fellas! Would have loved to see a helmet cam from inside to demonstrate the lift to all the anti-venters.

    Meanwhile, the attack line put out the fire. As long as a hose is in place and operating, vertical vent works. If they had not opened the roof, that fire still would have gone out, it just would have taken a bit longer to clear out the residual smoke. Remember that truck work is a support operation; it doesn't put out a fire.

      @Erich Weiler Erich , PPV is good but it only works well in certain situations. You must get things spot on or it can go tits up.

      @Erich Weiler when there is more than 1 seat of fire.

    • @andyoxleyonhistravels
      @andyoxleyonhistravels 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Erich Weiler Ok, we do 2 types of PPV. Offensive and post fire.
      Post fire is when we have dealt with the fire and use the fan to clear the smoke quickly.
      Offensive PPV is where we send an interior crew to deal with the fire.
      We locate the seat of fire , then create an exhaust vent and use the fan to push the heat and flammable gases out of the exhaust vent which allows the interior crew to move quickly deal with the fire in cooler and better visibility and can also be of benefit to any person trapped inside.

      @Erich Weiler If we have say a seat of fire in one room which has spread to somewhere else in the building making more than 1 seat of fire it can be difficult to control the fire if you use a PPV fan as you can end up pushing the fire all over the place.

      @Erich Weiler Personally I dont like it. For me you can vent perfectly well without putting guys and girls on a roof to cut holes when there is a fire beneath them.

      @@andyoxleyonhistravels its to vent elate smoke and gases for the firefighters inside so they can see better and have a better chance of finding victims and knocking out the fire. so there is a point of doing it lol.

    • @andyoxleyonhistravels
      @andyoxleyonhistravels 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spacemilk-c8d Never put a firefighter on a roof with a fire underneath. There are far safer ways of venting. Look at the front gable end ,there is a window already venting which is almost as high as the pitch of the roof. On the rear gable the fire is already venting clearly as the cladding has burnt away. The roof could fail at anytime.

      @@spacemilk-c8d Any of your windows on the highest point. The building will vent perfectly well. You don't ever find casualties in a loft space.
      I can honestly say I've never had to put guys on a roof in almost 25 years because we cant vent effectively.

    Vertical Venting is time consuming, labor intensive and unnecessarily dangerous especially on a low pitch room like this. Anybody notice the burned 2x4 roof rafters?
    1. Heavy wind from the right rear corner.
    2. Heavy black, fuel rich smoke coming out of the gable end vent. The ATTIC gable end VENT!
    3. You get a hose to the upwind side and get the back door or windows open while you break out the front windows and get the front door open. That's Horizontal Ventilation with wind assist which you can perform faster and safer than VVing that turns a contents fire into a structural fire.
    4. You follow the wind into the structure with a line with the nozzle open to a tight cone and extinguish and cool the interior
    5. You follow that with FFers opening the ceiling and inserting a second nozzle with a wide cone to soak the attic materials and cool the space.
    6. You let the attic suffocate while you make the main floor safe and then extinguish the attic from a safe location.
    7. You start this action immediately using tank water until the hydrant is flowing. You never wait for the hydrant as Well Placed tank water could knock down most fires by itself.
