@@KenBreon . You can probably answer the question as well as anyone boss man. What's the rest of the family up to while these 2 girls are going hard at it?
Hi Emerald. Not sure if you have seen the YT channel called "Out of the Woods". As you are now cutting Hard Woods, it may be useful to meet up with that guy and do a video together - would be useful to pick up tips as he cuts a lot of hardwood on a Woodmiser Sawmill It will also expose your channel to his subscribers and vice versa - should help your channel subs grow. He has also made a lot of improvements to his Woodmiser Sawmill to make it easier to operate and has a lot of tricks he has developed over the last few years to help him cut more accurately and efficiently. I think it would be very beneficial for you to get in touch and try do something together.
I kinda thought the same some time ago as i watched his channel as well. Unfortunately i became disenchanted with his channel after watching him burn wood that as he himself stated is not worth his time and his attitude towards giving it to someone else that could find a use for it. Im one state over from him and could find 20 individuals with wood stove heated shops that would be happy to come pick up his waste to use in their stoves. This family goes out of their own way to be waste concious. Certainly not birds of a feather.
My father-in-law always heated his house with slabs, which he called hog slats from the local saw mill, he would take his flat bed dump truck and buy a load, for penny's on the dollar and cut them to length which he burned in the wood stove and used as his primary heat source during the winter months !! Smart Man that Grady was !!
We had our house built 20 years ago and had red oak floors installed (downstairs and upstairs including the steps). We’ve had them refinished once and they’re still in great shape. Despite their best efforts, even our grandchildren haven’t damaged them.
Thanks,em,and,Ja, u gals work so good together, the show is so fun,and learn something new every day. Gotta get me a mill. Got trees ,got good labor, I'll get there,if I don't,I'll still have you gals. Be safe your pal devo on the block.
Love seeing a family unit working together ❤ I grew up in a family with her mother, father, grandmother, and grandfather, that all lived together, and it was fun and enjoyable..
I've been stuck at a desk all day and I hardly get to see the sun. Sometimes I wonder if an outdoors job would suit me better, but I don't like the freezing cold or scorching heat. It was 75 and sunny in Mississippi today. I would have been outside all day if I could.
I'm thinking if the Boss Man was to have a yearly job performance review, that special crew would get a A++! You all are just awesome and Emerald, you are the quintessential teacher and guide to good vibrations:-) Keep your "shinning light bright" and follow your path of success...
Hi Em I noticed that you square up the log and then cut the cant into boards from top to bottom. If you are selling them for construction grade that is fine, but if you want to sell for furniture you should cut boards from all the sides and then edge them. That way you stay away from the heat which is very low quality for furniture. Randy
Randy is correct. You need to learn to saw around the heartwood and to put the knots on the edges so they get edges off as well. Keep up the good work.
Got a nickname for you girls, Em Sawyer and J Sawyer!! I wish we had about 10 of you girls at our lumber yard. The Bosses did an excellent job with you guys!!! Keep on buzzing away
I have a good 50 to 75 ponderosa pine on my land in southern Oregon. People say it's valuable. I never got much into selling wood. Just got into learning to work with it. I personally like hard woods so I can build stronger structures with them instead of the softwoods. I wonder how much each tree is worth? They are full size trees. Maybe 2 and a half to 3 feet wide. Beautiful looking trees.
I am a new suscriber .... What I have visionned so far is very interesting but it is difficult to go back to your previous videos without losing the chain of events... I follow other different sites and most of them number their videos... Ever thought of doing something similar.... All the best to your family for 2023
Red oak has some of the best medullary rays. The wide board flooring in some of the buildings of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC got my attention more than some of the exhibits. Visit if you get a chance.
It is always fun trying to explain how black and pin oak can give red oak lumber! The white oak is the only one that lives up to it's name, white oak lumber. White oak has a neat trait as a board can be placed one end in a bucket of water and you blow into the other end, air bubbles will show up in the bucket.
Hypnotic watching the machine. Yes, we remember the UNADVERTISED availability of the oak, probably purchased by someone driving by who does not give a hoot what type it is. For a January, so far this year is mild (42-29) in central PA. Enjoy it ladies
I would think that few thicker 3 or 4 inch mantel pieces especially when there exceptional log comes through or for table tops and legs grand parents had big round table with fancy turned spiral legs that was expandable for family diner had 3 ome fit wide drop leafs that would store under the top stowed under top and above leg attachments Rarely ever see anymore or a large harvest style table had one with captain style chair most comfortable chairs for being solid wood

Hi! I enjoy watching your videos and I am impressed with the work ethic and skill of the young lady "Sawyers." I am a retired Lumberman and Sawyer who built and owned several conventional soft and hardwood mills, the largest, a hardwood mill in East Texas that produced about 10mm board feet/year. I've never owned or operated a Woodmizer mill, but of course, I'm well acquainted with the brand and type, having been around since the 1st ones came out. My mills always had a circular headrig, but I had a couple with band linebars and resaws. I have a couple of questions if you have the time and inclination to answer. One....what kind of production are you able to achieve with your mill? I would guess that 500-700 feet/hour is going to be a good number given my observation of your feed rate. Two...obviously, hardwood is going to be a lot tougher on blades than a softwood. How often do you sharpen/replace blades? Do you run coolant/ lubricant? Three....I'm not being critical but you seem to slab heavy. Are you trying for a 4" or 6" opening face? Does the blade tend to snake or run out if you're a little shallow in your cut? I won't bother you anymore. I'm just an old sawmill man who can't get the sawdust out of my cuffs! My wife complains if we go on a trip, because if we go past a small sawmill, I have to stop and talk.b Keep up the fine work and I'll keep watching!
Have you thought about kiln drying your lumber? Also yinz should saw out a lean too or something to cover your inventory from the elements. You’d probably sell a lot more if it was protected a little better and dried.
Im sure you already know this, but sawdust is really good mulch for blueberries. Its a natural product that also makes the soil acidic....which blueberries love. Blueberries are high in antioxidants as well.Get a few bushes!
💪you re the best and Jade is Jade.., i'm thinking about how to extract perfume from wood and isolate water from it. i think it's possible. a hard problem for me rightnow.
Hmm, I assume the saw takes a bit longer to cut thru the oak than hemlock. I think most contractors or dyi would prefer the hemlock for construction, but for trim and for finer stuff, sure, the red oak. Select the oak boards, for the clear or quarter or rift saw, set aside and dry it. Then you can probably sell it quickly for $4/ bd ft. or more. Nice logs.
E! Maybe you explain the thinking behind the oaks and other woods being the same price as the hemlock. Is it because the boss logs the acreage for a set price no matter what type of trees are there? Let us know.
I wonder if you could replace that log deck with a Woodmizer Hydraulic Log Deck ? If you could, all you would need to do, is set the logs on the log deck, and let the hydraulics move the log up to the LT40 loader arms. Sure would save time, and the wear and tear moving those heavy logs around by hand. It would be a nice thing to have, when they eventually upgrade to a larger sawmill.
Thanks Emerald and Jade for another beautiful video Thank the Bossman and Boss lady for teaching their daughters so well. Beautiful video
