A friend of mine, who I got talking to after your last project, who is a lacemaker here in Norway said that you should always have a sampler that you "warm up on" for about 10 minutes or so to get your tension correct before working on your main project. Even after 40 years of making lace, she still has a sampler that she starts with. She said it is like stretching before playing a sport. Gets your mind and fingers focused so that your piece is as good as it can be because you aren't warming up on it. Hope that helps! It looks lovely and I think will make a lovely neckline to any piece you add it to.

I find this magical, to see your beautiful creation growing in front of you. My grandmother was an amazing tatter, I have a hankie with blue tatting on the edge that I w ore pinned to my hoop skirt on my wedding day. One of my finest treasures!

Congratulations on finishing this piece of art. I know how many hours creep in to making a piece like this. I was taught by an old lady who made needle lace for a living in the earlier part of the 20th century (in Flanders). You developed a great technique for yourself. Wonderful job!
When you showed the final collar, I thought that it looks so so beautiful but that you yourself probably mostly see all the tiny imperfections because you have worked on it so close up for a good amount of time - and then you mentioned how your tension changed. Thank you for this video and the previous one, it solved some great mysteries for me. =)

I wish I was immortal just so I could learn absolutely everything there is to learn regarding fashion. Your videos fascinate me I had never thought about making lace myself and now I wanna know how to do that, I just don't have time to focus on everything I love at the same time especially with my mental illness. But it definitely is a fascinating craft, thank you for sharing
Love this. It actually prompted me to go back and learn crochet from my mammy again. She tried to teach me years ago and I just wasn't in the mood to sit and fiddle with wool/thread as a teenager but now that I realise that beautiful things can be made by my own hands (eventually) I've got the drive to once again learn...and I always remember her telling me when I was younger how she always regretted not learning from her own mother when she was alive and ended up being taught by her sister's mother-in-law and it's not a regret I want for myself. So I'm sitting with my mammy, tv in the background, gritting my teeth as she takes the needle and wool out of my hands to show me how to do a new stitch when all I want to do is dive straight into trying it myself. Thank you Marika for giving me that push that may have eluded me until it was too late. So much love for you for this.

I had seen your other videos where you discuss lacemaking, but watching this right after watching your recent CoCoVid collab with Morgan makes me feel like this is actually something I could pick up. Seeing Morgan follow your instructions in a way any person might was hugely inspiring, and seeing you make this has given me so many potential ideas!
You did a great job. As a bead & embroidery artist (and costumes as well) I think you explain and video exactly what I would want to see. I know the techniques but it is always good to see other people do the same work. Even if you are a beginner. You should be proud of your masterpiece!

I may be a bit late to the party here, but one way to add beads to lace is to already have it on the string. Maybe look at lace tatting guides and crochet lace patterns? Some of the books I have on those carry good advice on dealing with beads!

It also reminds me of the tutorials I have seen in 1920s magazines and such where they would take bias strips or tape and lay shapes out like this and use fagoting to stitch it all together similar to this battenburg style.. then they would insert the prices into knickers, dresses, slips, etc. So pretty!

Very very nice. I was impressed on how well it turned out. On your spider / wheel stitch, I noticed on your wheels had even number of spokes. I think if you have an odd number of spokes, when you got back to your starting point, what was an understitch is now set up for an overstich. I really enjoy your channel.

I’m going to start doing this with my embroidery too- I can always tell the spots that I’ve “started again” on after a lapse in working!

Actually you don't need the tape. You can outline the pattern with a double thread of the same yarn.
