In 2001, Bálint Magyar wrote an article titled "Hungarian Octopus - The Organized Underworld" about the Fidesz party, which was employing full-court press tactics and looting the institutional framework of the rule of law, and the world he had established where power operating within the framework of democratic institutions began expanding using mafia methods with state assistance. In this system, the state is not a tool of the mafia; rather, it is the mafia itself, utilizing the entire arsenal of state power for the promotion of its political and economic interests.
At the time of the publication of Bálint Magyar's article, many debated the correctness of this new conceptual approach, whose key categories were the "organized underworld," the "state employing mafia methods," and "political family members." However, starting in 2010, with the Fidesz-KDNP party's two-thirds parliamentary majority, the institutional constraints on exercising power largely disappeared. After the Fidesz, as a party, the Hungarian state also came under the sole authority of one individual, Viktor Orbán, who has since applied coercion to society as a whole. The new conceptual framework describing the system had a revelatory effect on many political scientists, sociologists, and economists. The idea emerged that this new language could be used to model the current economic and social conditions in Hungary. In 2014, a book was published on this topic, titled "Hungarian Octopus - The Post-Communist Mafia State." This volume is the most comprehensive, in-depth analysis of the Orbán regime established in Hungary since 2010. "Those who genuinely want to understand where they live are unlikely to do without the essential but encyclopedic knowledge contained in this book," wrote Debreczeni József, among others.
In 2014, Bálint Magyar was invited by Sándor Friderikusz for a three-quarter-hour conversation.

Magyarországon pont az a hatalmas bárki, hogy nincs választás: az egyik morálisan támogathatatlan, a többiek pedig populisták...

Ha így gondolod, akkor megetted a propagandát. Rengeteg tisztességes, nagy tudású politikus lenne. Itt van például Magyar Bálint. Vagy körül kell nézni Budapesten. Vagy mennyivel jobb köztársasági elnök lehetett volna Róna Péter, mint Novák Katalin. Van alternatíva, csak ki kell lépni az Orbán-Gyurcsány tengelyból. Persze az orbáni propaganda igyekszik elhitetni, hogy mindenki más alkalmatlan. Pedig nem.
