Hi HC, This was so interesting. I'm American and I did not know about this. I just finished watching your 100,000 subscriber Q & A video and you suggested this one about the stained glass window in the National Cathedral. It's April 2022 and I don't know if you will see my comment, but well done!
That bit of rock represents history older than anything else you can impart to us, but wouldn't it be fascinating to know just a tiny bit more of what its seen during its billion year life span? Thank you for these very interesting videos, I truly enjoy your unique way of presenting them.
Absolutely. Yes, it's incredible to think how long that bit of rock has been around and what we could know if only it had had a cosmic CCTV camera attached to it that we could access :-) I'm so glad you enjoy the channel. Thank you for watching (especially one of the less popular videos!) and commenting.
@@HistoryCalling it was rainy for me that day too! Still a must see for those people who love a window. Our guide just breezed by the specific details. “There’s an actual moon rock there”.
Being a lover of wooden sailing ships I once visited the "Seafarer's Window," St.Mary the Virgin's Church, Tollesbury, Essex - and fell in love with that window.
Thank you for sharing this interesting bit of art history. I missed this earlier, and only watched it because you mentioned it in your video commemorating 100K subscribers! Congratulations, by the way. 🏆
From one geek to another ;) . I love stained glass windows. My favourites are the Mucha window at Prague Cathedral. The art nouveau soft lines and distinct style are beautiful and the colours it creates across the building are mesmerising. I also love the flame window in Darwin cathedral. It is stunning in its simplicity and striking colours. I’m not a religious person but went there on a walking tour. I loved it so much I went back the next day and just sat and stared at it for a while.
I do loved stained glass, so thank you for this video. The window is exceptional. However, I think my favorite thing at the National Cathedral is the Darth Vader gargoyle.
If this is amazing! I love history and I've been to Washington DC numerous times but I never even knew that this stained glass window existed! It's so amazing! Thank you for sharing!
As someone who has a very opposing view to religions, this science based stained glass window I can appreciate. If it only was somewhere else than in a cathedral...
"Nixon and (********) didn't like each other," could go for SO MANY people. Nixon could be a real grump and he was famous for having a whole "Enemies List." I used to walk a dog who lived across from the National Cathedral and we would walk on the grounds whenever we got the chance. However, he was a very lazy dog and he didn't like to walk long distances if he could help it. Since I had the dog and was on a strict schedule, I wasn't able to get inside the Cathedral but now I will have to make a special trip to look at the stained glass windows!
This is an exceptionally well done lecture on what this window represents, seen in the focus of man’s relation to God in our modern world of science. I never knew this window existed. It’s quite beautiful.
It is gorgeous. Even though on the day I saw it, it was absolutely pelting down with rain outside, the light coming through it was still lovely. Thanks for watching :-)
Love watching your videos! Keep them coming! I love stained glass windows. Didn’t know this one existed. I will make a point to visit it this coming year on one of my trips through DC. How lucky I live in southern Virginia! It looks exceptional! ❤️
Actually, Mike Collins was a bit inaccurate when saying nothing else in the Natl. Cathedral commemorated 'The New', as he referred to it. There is a gargoyle head somewhere in the Cathedral which would be quite recognizable to science fiction fans...It's the head of a certain Sith Lord named Darth Vader.
First second the window was shown in this video, that lil eye-like circle got my attention first. Someone should print this art piece out & ask people, "O.k., what do you see first? If you see the eye looking thing you are suspicious of people." lol Something like that. :)
Thank you for showing me something beautiful in my own country that I was unaware of. Nixon would have had maybe two weeks to go when this was dedicated!
I don't have a favorite window but I went to Canterbury Cathedral many years ago and remember seeing windows with little stories told in several panels. I would love to have a book with those stories illustrated by the pictures of the windows. (As I write this I realize I may be thinking of another cathedral. Do you know?)
Paddy's Wigwam or it's proper name Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral has an amazing lighting affect from it's central stained glass window. But I've not seen photos which do it justice. Not sure it's historical enough for you yet but the story of it's building was interesting.

I love the medieval stained glass at the Met Cloisters Museum in NYC, especially the small Bavarian roundels!
I lived a block away from this cathedral for four years and never visited. I still live close by so maybe I’ll go see this in-person!

I don't know how I missed this video! It's great!
Your channel is so interesting. I'm sitting here in the states binge watching.
When I was at the cathedral, thr window was not yet there. My favorite is the Chagall in the art institute of Chicago
I think we will all be surprised at how much science and faith do not clash, but compliment each other. :)

Saw this gorgeous window in person and sat in awe of it. Easily one of my favorite stained glass windows as well.
It is stunning. The pictures don't do it justice. I saw it on a rainy day, but I'll bet with the sun behind it, it's even more amazing.

This is a beautiful window. I love the story of its creation. And there is every good reason to have a favorite stained glass window!
Being a lover of wooden sailing ships I once visited the "Seafarer's Window," St.Mary the Virgin's Church, Tollesbury, Essex - and fell in love with that window.
Thank you for the information regarding this incredibly beautiful stained glass window
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching.
I love your channel! I have never heard of this window, it is beautiful.
Thank you so much!

Yes, when done well, they are really beautiful. Thank you for watching (especially one of my lesser viewed videos!)
How incredibly beautiful ❤

Very interesting. Never would have known this even existed.
Thanks. I had no idea either until I happened to visit.

Wow!! I'd never have known.
Thank you.

Thank you.
just finished watching all your videos and i have to say I'm so in love with your channel. I'm excited for all the future videos to come!
Thank you so much!!
What a tremendous video- thank you!!
Just got to see this in person on Monday! Thanks for the video!
You're welcome. It's a gorgeous window (and Cathedral).
Recently found your channel, enjoying listening to your accounts of history while I work.
Thanks Diana :-)

Really nice video. My hometown so a good choice. I didn’t realize this was there despite multiple visits. Thanks!!
I just listened to you Q &A when you hit 100,000 subscribers, and you mentioned the space windows, so now I'm watching it 😂
I'm way too hype on stained glass rn. I was here, 4:06 a.m
2:44 a.m.; same!
Thank you for showing me something beautiful in my own country that I was unaware of. Nixon would have had maybe two weeks to go when this was dedicated!
And thank you for watching one of the least loved videos on the channel. As you can see, it was one of my very early offerings.

Oh, good tip. Thank you :-)
Instead of representing the newer, I would say that it represents the even older-by about 14 billion years
That’s doesn’t make you a nerd.
Haha, thank you. I'm still the only person I know with a favourite stained glass window though :-)
I wonder what flat-Earthers would say is up there in that window. The contents of LBJ’s ashtray, perhaps?😆
