This is a solid breakdown. I jumped on the bandwagon on Perception and worked my way back and then forward and Nate has progressed like crazy. Truly built the foundation, honed his skill and now is super clean and one of my favorites out there.

I totally agree with you. This is a good song but it's by no means my favorite. Warm Up is a better song then this one from the same era. I think a lot of people here that off time rhyme scheme and think it's awesome when in fact it's just more like he's experiment and doesn't quite have it yet.

I don't know the proper terminology, but in music sometimes there's an "off" note or chord that gets resolved. The resolution sounds that much better afterwards. You mention at 8:30 about how the beat seems off.... It's possible that he used that "off" timing to make the resolution that much better in the lines just after.

This song is Returns starter kit it was different than anything Nate was putting out at the time. As a fan it showed the potential of what he could actually become. I think it pays homage to both the past and present by referencing both Em and Drake while making his Statement on what he would become.
