How is addiction a “disease”? Someone with a disease has no choice. People who abuse substances have a choice. They choose to put those harmful drugs into their bodies. It’s their own doing. They aren’t victims. They are drug addicts, plain and simple.
When I was in college, I could down 30 Keystones over a full day and still remain lucid and functional late into the night. I could see 50+ being achievable for Boggs if he counted beers he drank before taking off and during a long layover. At least I want to believe.
At my peak a 24 pack in 4 hours was doable but that was drinking destructively. To keep that pace all the way to 64 would have been improbable but not totally impossible. Go cougs and RIP boss Hogg
Totally agree TD. I met or knew a few people in the oil and gas industry that would do 24 beers a night and then DRIVE home (foolish). It hits a point the body doesn't register like a normal body. Improbable but not impossible. I honestly think he just lost count. It was 64 or 46? He probably forgot
“You know, hey, turns out Boggs, he didn't hit it out of the park every single time at bat. He just tried to get the ball in play and hope that he could squeak it through the hole. And I just, uh, squeaked it through multiple holes, if you know what I'm saying.”
He probably drank about 20 full cans, then got so drunk that he kept opening new beers and then forgot about them until he reached 64, 44 being half consumed or less.
I heard the number has grown over the years like any great legend, and that it was actually more along the lines of 2 cases and he shared. Which is still an insane amount of beer to drink in ~6 hours.
Boston fans never loved Boggs, Batting titles were all he cared about. His teammates would say, if Boggs went 2 for 4 in a loss, he was happy, if he went 1 for 4 in a win, he was miserable.
That is 6 gallons. A gallon per hour for six straight hours. I honestly don’t think a human can drink that much liquid, even water. The kidneys just couldn’t keep up.
Well there was this guy a snooker player who got a doctors certificate to allow him to drink while playing because he had a unique disorder and it was supposedly recommended alcohol to some degree helped him handle symptoms a bit better (but of course just ran with that) Bill Werbniuk, and this was a decent sized guy bout 280, nothin outrageous, and he averaged 30 pints a day and had often hit more than that. So it most certainly can be done. i mean my peak was 4.5 bottles of spirits back to back but done in less than a 24 hour period taking my time. but i couldnt do two cases of beer at any point, stomach capacity training is important, kobyashi the professional eater used to train by consuming large amounts of water to train the stomachs stretch reflex. Beers bloating but its weak and mostly water, so you can train this. it can be done, but its very much so a thing which takes alot of specific training. i don't think Ozzy Osbourne would even stand a chance at doing half that even on cocaine. But beer drinkers are beer drinkers. My father used to tell me of these brothers who used to always win drinking contests, and it was later discovered the brothers, each had extra kidneys. ( so you never know the little ditties that may aid that assimilation ability in fact theres a specific gene for it) i mean Andre the giant did two cases/48 beers in a 80 mile trip so time wise, less than the flight in question but not by a gargantuan margin, without needing to urinate. so it totally can be done. i did it with milk when i was a bodybuilder and didnt have a taste for meat in the quantities necessary, so i consumed 26 liters in 24 hours. starting at midnight. never construing, oh thats basically suicide. but unlike with water or alcohol deaths there was extreme hydration involved rather than the opposite. 60's i believe in a flight, 100 i believe in a 24 hour period. Ollie Reed did 100 pints in 48 hours on his bachelor party (misquoted as 24 hours but reclarified later by him on television as 48 hours. so yeah it can be done. met many drinkers that were beer talented but had no skill in spirits. it sounds weird but you'll know if you see it. also if your a smoker or chew tobacco or do anything else you can basically blunt taste enough to be throwing it down easier than your average person. because theres gotta be a boredom factor on the taste buds right? Beer wise he beats John Daly with ease though, so you gotta think...... ehhhh who was the official counter. he had consumed more than zero beers before boarding so just.... you know.... be aware your getting fragments of truth and not the full conditions. 4.5% alcohol, rest is largely water. the same volume, i doubt you could achieve via any other dehydrating substance. strangely that includes water, because the overkill element is always whats flushed out, but he also ate in a way which delayed absorption but had some minerals in there so that and training, i'm not shocked by it. But i doubt even Wade would be able to do a version of that with wine or any spirit. even if the alcohol content/standard drink amount was adjusted to be the same at the end. its a very specific skill and its entirely not even tolerance based... specifically. i just dont understand how theres any pleasure in doing that so quick and accumulating that stomach volume with carbonation. most would get bored long before they would do that even if they could.... but hey.... he had a weird palate in general
My alcoholic friend drink a 24 and 18 pack of 16 ouncers + a lot more at various bars one day. But that was in a whole day. He started at 10 am and drink almost constantly until 3 am. I really didn't think he'd wake up in the morning after that one.
David Boon, Australian cricketer, drank 52 beers from Australia to the UK in 1989 to set the record for that distance. It's about 22 hours flight time. If Boggs was drinking shot glasses maybe 64 but proper cans (375 mills) feels unlikely. A six hour flight, 10 cans an hour is tough.
I don't see it happening. I've drank around 40 light beers in 24 hours (with sleep in the middle), perhaps 24 in 8 hours, at most. And at that level, I was a raging alcoholic.
LSD makes alcohol not effective, not sure why nobody brings this up, it actually calms you down. I saw someone get breathalyzed by police, blew a .35 and the cop couldn't figure out why he wasn't sluing and could walk straight. Pretty sure you can get insta-win in any drinking competition that way.
That would be 50lbs of fluid poured in his body over like 6 hours, and even though it’s impossible to carry that in his stomach, it’s equally crazy to consider that much weight of urine leaving his body.
For the first 2 or 3 hours if you're a heavy heavy drinker but not after that. After that first couple hours the rate of consumption goes away way down. It's not sustainable for a long period.
Canadian here i can put them back i know alot of buddies that can put them back most i drank in a night was 42 pops over 12 hours i know guys bigger than me who took down 2 24's in 8 hours but were smashed so im saying unless he has some rare genetic condition that lets him drink like a fish this didnt happen.
Could he handle the alcohol content from that many beers? O.k. fine maybe but where do you put the volume of liquid from 64 beers!? The urination rate had to be scary. Lol
Do the BAC math. 200 pound Wade Boggs. 6 hour 15 minute direct flight from NY to LA. 64 beers. That equals a BAC of 1.55%. Not .155%, which would be nearly twice the legal limit in most jurisdictions. 1.55%!!!!!! Death/coma usually occurs at 0.40% The story is complete BS.
Ryan Leaf is such a great guest host. Dude is a real inspiration for being so real about his past.
agreed, I really enjoy him as a host/guest etc. Hope to see more of it
He's so sharp, hope to see more
100%, this is great to see. he’s good, too.
He is. Glad to see he is doing well.
I’m happy he finally has figured life out.
Now Boggs didn't just drink enough beer to kill a horse, he also suited up the next day and went 3 for 5
Rest In Peace boss Hogg.
Gimme that hot dog
Man I want to give this a thumbs up but I wanted that number to stay
sweeeeeeet

IMMEDIATELY thought of the Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode when the gang tried to break his record 😭
I inverted the bird and landed her safely
I just watched this episode a few days ago, absolutely hilarious
IASIP one of the greatest comedy TV shows of all time--IMHO
Lmaooo me too
Rip wade boggs
Shout out Ryan Leaf for turning his life around. Way to be an example for the all too common disease that is addiction.
How is addiction a “disease”? Someone with a disease has no choice. People who abuse substances have a choice. They choose to put those harmful drugs into their bodies. It’s their own doing. They aren’t victims. They are drug addicts, plain and simple.
It's Always Sunny might be the funniest show of all time.
And Ryan Leaf is handa down the best guest host of this show.
May he Rest In Peace.
He’s not dead 😂
@@Sam_Perman Poor Charlie just couldn’t or wouldn’t understand that.
@@Sam_Perman that was part of the plot of that episode, Charlie thought Wade was dead.
" again Wade Boggs is very much alive"
RIP to the chicken man
He probably got drunk enough where he thought he drank 64 beers.
That’s why we’re doing this. To honor his memory. May he Rest In Peace
Haha “but he’s not dead Charlie”
Here’s to you Boss Hogg
A beer a hole? By hole 5, I would be driving my cart into sand traps.

One of the best episodes of Always Sunny. They were ALL trying to drink 64 beers 😂

I come from a similar background. Is it possible? Maybe, but you're then dealing with a genetically different type of person.
Ryan Leaf is THE BEST !!! Could listen to this guy every day 👍
Daaaaang, so glad you brought Ryan back. I could watch this dude every day.

It's impossible to drink that much that fast unless you're Andre the Giant. There's no chance. None
Yep....only Andre 👍 This is bullshit about Boggs....total urban legend
Andre would do that and a couple of wine bottles
As a recovering alcoholic in my prime I could drink 36 all day over 12 hours
Sunny in Philly has become my middle age friendship litmus test. If you watch, we'll get along...if not, it's probably a pass..
I'm a substance abuse counselor. I've had patients put down 50 some days but that's an extreme alcoholic. It's doable but that takes such a tolerance.
Chris sounds like Charlie
He probably drank about 20 full cans, then got so drunk that he kept opening new beers and then forgot about them until he reached 64, 44 being half consumed or less.
Wade Boggs had chicken right before every game, that's why they called him chicken-man.
RIP Wade Boggs.
this is one of the best OT conversations ever
Great to see Leaf doin his thang💪
Most I’ve had is 18 over like 7 hours. And I was tanked. There’s no way even an athletic alcoholic could do that.
Even if they were light beers, we're talking 7,000 calories minimum. I can't imagine it.
Ryan Leaf as a host is pretty cool. He's really good at talking about stuff
Good Mythical Morning now has me linking old expired food "smell" with Wade Boggs after they ate his old candy bar.
Andre the Giant sure, but I highly doubt Wade Boggs.
Alcohol. Poisoning. A human body his size would knock him out long before drinking that much beer, even if it is the water-like American beer...
If they said "Andre The Giant", there would be no question
I heard the number has grown over the years like any great legend, and that it was actually more along the lines of 2 cases and he shared. Which is still an insane amount of beer to drink in ~6 hours.
The question no one asked. How many of those beers did his mustache drink?
Maybe, maybe not. But one thing forsure is Charlie Kelly did it. He even batted 1000 after.
Boston fans never loved Boggs, Batting titles were all he cared about. His teammates would say, if Boggs went 2 for 4 in a loss, he was happy, if he went 1 for 4 in a win, he was miserable.
Honestly, drinking 64 12oz cans of any drink over that short a timespan would be rough, alcoholic or otherwise.
Especially anything carbonated.
Yeah, imagine how bloated you'd be
That is 6 gallons. A gallon per hour for six straight hours. I honestly don’t think a human can drink that much liquid, even water. The kidneys just couldn’t keep up.
I’m glad Ryan Leaf turned his life around. He’s great as Rich Eisen’s fill-in.
He tunneled through rock bottom onto the other side. Went from a shame to an inspiration. Good for him.

You know, that's the only ball I have. And I didn't really expect you to hit one.
A keg is 155 12oz. beers and weighs about 150 lb.
My record for a whole day is 27 beers, but I’ve easily had 64 throughout the weekend.
I'm just here for the Sunny comments.
He must have drank 64 little kings
Didn't know this was a real myth, thought it was just a always sunny episode lol
Ryan Leaf needs his own show
I believe it... Assuming that half of those are "nose" beers
A good ol snap of the white liquor 😂
Even if it's a slow cross country flight at 8 hours long, that's 8 beers/hour. Every 8 minutes you crack another beer.
