As a French speaker I was so surprised when you said English isn't your first language!! I could barely tell that you weren't a native speaker. And for a French native speaker, mastering the English accent like that is even more impressive.
Exactly! A French speaker talking about getting really good at Italian is very unimpressive, but learning Japanese to at least some decent level is and speaking English as well as you do is even more compelling (to an English speaker). I was a Japanese major, though, and also found your level very impressive considering you didn't study abroad there.
I'm a native English speaker. He has perfect English to me. I've heard worse from natives. How many native speakers would have used the word "obscure" in perfect context, if at all?
In deep level of mental processing part, avoiding recognition itself, and instead, checking the definition/translation of the word in a preffered language and then trying to recall the exact word in a target language make a lot of sense.Because when you are writing or speaking(most difficult parts) the words are not actually gonna pop into your head out of nowhere. You will recall them first by its purpose and function in a sentence, then its definition and then the desired word.
Yeah, your English speaking skills are so good it kind of makes me a little angry you can speak English so well, while I struggle with learning and speaking Korean. How long did it take you to become this fluent in English?
I used to create my own flashcards in BrainScape but it definitely consumed a lot of time - not 15 minutes a day. And this is not time learning but just labouring creating flashcards. Pretty soon one learns them and has to create another deck. Premade packs never worked as well, however - they often lacked good descriptions or other components that would help me and make any card unique.
You have a very decent English ! It's so surprising that English isn't your native language 😮 You sound exactly like native English speakers !! So proud of you, Loïs !👍👏
Unfortunately, academic institutions in most countries don't apply any science-based language learning methods. Like, I know many people who learned a language for years at school/college/university, but after finishing there, they didn't have any ability to use this language practically.
May be bc they not apply science-based methods to speak or use practically their knowledge? In school/college/university they just learn nouns, verbs, rules and etc.
I learned Japanese in university and I was taught by throughly scientific methods and the criticism that universities ignore scientific methods of language teaching is an Internet myth. Everyone I know who speaks Japanese at my level, C2, in European parlance, is the product of a university program like I went through.
im also interested in bc i always heard that recognition flashcards was better than recall flashcards, and he keep saying that is a science research but not even let this papers on descriptions...
I've a c2 certificate in english, though I didn't practice speaking because I'm antisocial, I just wanted to learn English, so I could be to understand, but now I want to learn french, and I'm afraid of lose my english vocabulary, and I now that I'm not going to learn french as fast as english, 'cause I won't put all my focus on it, I'll keep learning english vocabulary 100 words a day, so I'm afraid to learn french, by the way I'm 15 years old
If you're at c2 im English there is no chamce you can forget it. I suggest spending a little time per day on very hard material like a difficult novel. This will give you a high density of challenging words compared to other material so you don't have to spend as much time studying. That will give you more time to learn French. On another note, learning French will probably improve your English because 30-60% of English words come from French depending on how you count it so you will be improving your English as you learn French; you will get a deeper knowledge of the roots and etymology of most Emglish words.
@@dmera001 I watched some more of his videos and I think he was referring to the free download spaced repetition software known as Anki. I have been using it on my android phone and PC. Native English speaker here, interested in learning Japanese. Very helpful information -- thank you. Your English has enough accent to identify it is not your first language but still excellent. Not the least difficulty understanding as you relay complex ideas.
He sounds like someone who could be a Spanish speaker or some ohter language in HIS FAMILY,not that English isn't his first language/or native. I live in a place with lots of folks who have very strong accents....I really wouldn't say he has an "accent" as in foreign...
1:00 lol I thought it was only a meme that French people swallow the initial “h” 😅 there’s a whole video about a French guy passing an interview and the interviewers marking how many times he’ll drop either “h” or “s”😂
I am sick of youtubers who suggests lots of methods without not supporting them with valid researches. Why would i use someone's not scientificially proven personal method while i could use proven ones
I have a question. I know you said that it is best to study the vocabulary every day. What about spacing repetition? Should I still do spacing repetition of I'm looking at the vocabulary every day. It's not vocabulary for a new language. I just want to build up my English vocabulary for writing. I was also going to try keyword method too. It's a method where you link the vocabulary word to a image.
Hi your English is really good , I just want to ask what kid of flash card application is that I’m here in Canada and I want to learn the French in the right way please help me thanks and GODBLESS
wow i would have bet my left kidney that you are american. i have once or twice seen non-natives with your level of "accentlessness" but they were all Swedish young women (for some reason they seem to be able to mimic the english sounds perfectly). but every french person i have ever met, no matter how fluent they are in any target language, sounds like he/she is speaking french, just with different words. the french are notoriously the worst at pronouncing anything else than french. sure the srs system is good, but you also must have a unique brain!
YOU MADE A PHNOMANOL MISTAKE, DEAR! WHY YOU DIDN'T ADD "ENGLISH SUBTILTES" IN THE THIS VIDEO ????????? WE ARE STILL LEARNING THEREFORE MOSTLY WE FIND IT A LITTLE BIT TRICKY TO CATCH SOME NEW WORDS.
I haven't played around with Anki tons but it seems like the process of making cards WITH pronunciation and visuals is very difficult. I've been studying French for a while and I've learned that, for French especially, without those 2 items plus gender, it's essentially pointless. But then each card seems like a huge hurdle to make. If there was a way to automatically make the cards I want (not some list of 1000 words) am studying, that would be great. But I can't find that program
Being an Anki user what I do is that I use a plug-in in Anki that allows me to highlight a word (with the mouse) and then directly search for this word pronunciation from forvo in my target language and download directly that pronounciation into the flashcard I'm creating in one click. It works like a charm.
@@loistalagrand You sound amazing, if you hadn't revealed the French, most the vast majority wouldn't know it wasn't your first language. Folks are just messing with you.
