This was the first time I had heard/thought of the cheese plate. I am from Wisconsin. My waiter knows to bring me two cheese plates! This is why I haven’t sailed RC in 2023. The escargot is heartbreaking. I have sailed RC for 25+ years. And this is so sad.
I just went on Harmony back on May 6th this year, I was quite disappointed with the food in the main dining hall every time we went. Luckily we ate at 6 specialty restaurants but the 2 nights we had dinner in the main hall, it just... wasn't that great. The food was not as fresh or hot, or well presented as it was the first time we sailed on harmony back in 2019. It's almost made me want to try Celebrity for our next cruise as I hear their food is top notch.
Quantum of the Seas (Jan 2024) 1) I’ve tasted better foods on a Carnival Cruise, and they don’t charge me premium price like RC did. 2) There was no Lobster Tail on Royal Night. Just repeats of escargot and other stuff that was served a few nights ago. 3) Exact same thing was served in the Windjammer buffet. Why bother going to the MDR?
I'm not a huge Royal fan in general, Carnival and NCL are my preferred lines, but I think the theme nights are really creative and the menu changes are a cool idea. This video is fantastic and so detailed. Really enjoyed watching!
I just returned from a seven day cruise. Most of the food in the main dining room was warm at best. We did return a few meals only to have it come back the same. Really sad. They used to be wonderful.
We were on Allure of the Seas in November 2022 - pre-new-menu - and very disappointed in the preparation. RAW chicken cordon bleu. Soggy crust on beef Wellington (and the cow was still mooing). We were so disappointed in the desserts that we started ordering the apple blossom (now gone) each night so as not to be annoyed. We have been sailing with Royal for over 30 years going all the way back to their merger with Admiral Cruises. We chalked Allure up to post-COVID hangover and/or almost 6,000 passengers Thanksgiving week and booked again. We just came off Adventure of the Seas last week (4th of July). We sailed on Adventure previously in 2007. We thought maybe with 2,000 less passengers we would fare better. Nope. At least we did not have to worry about badly-prepared beef Wellington - it's gone forever from the menus. D'Souza says they want to get the service down to about 75 minutes. PLEASE DO. We never got out of there in under 90 minutes. Our grandchildren who mercifully do not know how to tell the difference, enjoyed grilled cheese (two pieces of toast, no clarified butter, one slice of cheese NOT melted), cheeseburgers, or pasta each night. Oh, to have been 6... The new menu institutionalizes a complete lack of imagination. MDR dinner used to be the daily highlight of any Royal cruise. Now, I would put them one-half step above Carnival or a cafeteria. In your video, you show what I have to imagine are Royal food shots because NONE of our entrees on a table of 7 ever came out looking as shown. Several nights food was sent back as cold. The onion tart you show has an appropriate amount of sauce. All of ours came out in a lukewarm lake of slop. The "jumbo" coconut shrimp is simply salad shrimp with the tails left on. I detected little to no coconut in the batter. Our waiter actually brought an extra portion for the table because he said "It looks a little sparse tonight." I raised my eyebrow and said "Tonight?" and he just smiled. When there was an Indian option, I ordered that simply because with a majority Indian crew I figured there would be a mutiny if that was not prepared well. It was delicious, if you like Indian food - which I do. Don't order the jambalaya thinking "how bad can they mess up Creole stew?" Easy - no shrimp or meat - it's a vegetarian option. What the WHAT? Might as well have meatless New York strip steak... Don't put lamb with mint chutney on the menu, and then have no chutney. Don't offer "Texas-style" (we are from Texas) brisket with creamy coleslaw and then serve fatty corned beef with some sort of brown gravy slop (not BBQ sauce) along with a tablespoon - yes - a TABLESPOON of PURPLE cabbage and OreIda quality fries. Texas-style indeed...what are they smoking? (Certainly not the brisket!) Plenty of other reviews on the food on TH-cam, all of which I find accurate. Ben and David's review is particularly good and does not pull as many punches as this review. The food was SO bleh that my wife and I cancelled a 16 night Panama Canal cruise with Royal in October because the thought of 16 nights of unimaginative MDR food would have distracted from our 40th wedding anniversary. We have trusted Royal with some of our family's most memorable times. We have booked one more cruise in mid-2024 on Harmony. If they haven't fixed the menu by then, we will look elsewhere for cruising, starting with Norwegian, which we last sailed in 2016. That said - the ships are still beautiful, sparkling clean, and well-maintained. The crew are the best afloat and genuinely interested in keeping the guests happy. The MDR menu is a disservice to them all. Linken D'Souza should be forced to eat nothing but his menu for a full month - prepared and presented exactly as served on board - and then see how fast things change! Very Loyal to Royal...but last chance June 2024.
I’ve always known the Carnival food to be tasty and just more delicious, if not always high class. The things I’ve been seeing about RC food- do not entice me to book with them. (Though I haven’t sailed carnival out of Texas- only California).
Carnival food is worse than Royal. Did 3 Royals early this year. Did dream late Sept. Always SLOW to get out of MDR. One evening it was 2 1/4 hours to get our dessert. Food worse than Royal. Sometimes just did not eat except maybe for a Guys's burger. Did Glory for Thanksgiving. it was better The food changed in January. 41 cruises and close to being done.@@djtexas4993

Just got off odyssey of the seas in the Mediterranean. In general the food was good in the dinning room. They had trouble getting the food out quickly and got the drink orders wrong. It was quite disappointing. This new menu didn’t save any time. I would keep the old menu plus add a few items to give people some variety.

While Disney was amazing with activities for kids and family- their food was just mediocre. Cold pizza and macaroni and cheese for the kids was blah. We haven’t been able to cruise since 2018. can we take as many food as we want for exemple can we take 2 starters 1 main and 2 desserts (im going on august and i know that when we went on the harmony we could actually take more so im wondering)
Royal lets you order as many starters, entrees, and desserts as you want in the main dining room. The only exception is on lobster night. You are only allowed one lobster for free. After that, you need to pay for additional lobsters. What ship are you sailing on in August?
We watch all of your videos, very good. I like the best of the best because I can only go once a year I would like the best. You seem to like Princess the best

@@Eatsleepcruise1 One begins to wonder, as you sidestep contrary experiences over and over and over here, whether you are paying full fare for your cruises, are unknown to the crew (notified by RCI that you are onboard, so TLC?) and are really more influencers than reviewers. Our waiter, the captain, and indeed the hotel operations officer ALL told us that especially long-time Royal customers are complaining bitterly and in large numbers on EVERY cruise. On a table of 7 at least 30% (minimum) of the food had something wrong with temperature or prep each and every night - never mind the menu in general.
Yes we come back 7 days ago from a 12 nights in the Ovation of the seas and the dinner changes were the first thing we noticed that had changed... Actually we are very disappointed... No only we cannot find our classics... That we have been used to for the last 20 years of cruising with RC. But we were more disappointed / in the quality of the meals... No up to RC standards... There was a LOT of indian input as per day extremely spacy food.... No all of us like those spaces not the smell of those dishes. Any way.. we did made a comment to them about it...and now we can only pray that they get up and present the same standard of RC food mark. ...
We sailed Liberty Seas in June. MDR food was horrible! Can't say it any other way. I say this as RCL fans, Diamond Plus, we will to sail RCL again until they do better. Not only selections but quality was terrible. Spicy was like nothing we had ever seen. Next cruise Holland America.
Wasn’t impressed (Quantam of the Sea ) was to be honest , so so you had to schedule everything not to mention things were out of of service, the food was so so, the scenery was beautiful.
New menu and the actual food looks like crap. Everyone complains it’s cold. We are booking first time since 2008 we have been on carnival since and I want to go back already. Charge more and give less typical.
Just cruised on Allure. Main dining sucked. Even the shrimp was smaller. Duck? Nope. Sour dough bread? Nope. You better like chicken. Formal night requiring jacket and tie? Nope. The wait staff used to vary by country and be very professional. Not so much now. Even the Windjammer was scaled back. Bread pudding with vanilla sauce? Nope. Individual milk cartons? Nope. Scrambled eggs baked in a big pan and chopped up? You bet. Ranger cookies? Nope. In fact, the tasteless chocolate cookies nobody wanted, wound up ground up in a parfait layer the next day. Chops Grill delivered a great steak. However, their idea of a baked potato was a small thing served in a metal dish. Instead of providing butter, the waiter poured melted butter on top before I could get the potato open on my plate.
From a vegetarian perspective other cruise lines offer more than 1 or 2 selections on an entire menu. Variety and creativity is important for a cruise line to offer for all cruisers to enjoy. It is 2023 afterall. Sad to see that Royal is still behind the times. Terrible variety all around.

Sorry to hear that. Food quality does appear to vary from ship to ship.
Wasn’t impressed (Quantam of the Sea ) was to be honest , so so you had to schedule everything not to mention things were out of of service, the food was so so, the scenery was beautiful.
Cruising Oasis of the Seas in January 2024
Happy cruising.
Sorry to hear about your experience. We were just on Icon of the Seas, and the dining was better than our last visit. Happy cruising.
Food quality wend DOWN!!! Bad it’s quire noticeable from past RCL cruises. Employees all seemed angry and not wanting to be there,
.
Food is really mediocre. Not worth it anymore.
Main dining is now budget buffet garbage
It’s not good for me.
No Indian food, please!
