Elephants are similar to what you said about the orcas, Elephants live longer in the wild they're only in captivity because they are endangered or the numbers are lower then what they should be.

Do you have problems with Henrietta becoming broody with enrichment items ?

Hi, no, she lays a couple of eggs each spring but nothing else happens with anything.

So everybody should adopt an Eagle Owl because it will extend their life? It's still an owl and it's still a cage. And you have years of experience keeping owls and yet there's no warning to people who might want one but have absolutely no experience. This is incredibly irresponsible.
BTW: 60 years is the maximum age an Eagle Owl can live in captivity. It doesn't mean that they will all reach that age. It's like saying that the oldest human lived to be 122 years old; and therefore, all humans reach that age. The statement is misleading.

Not only that. Birds especially tend to imprint onto their handlers thus they will not exhibit natural behaviours.
Normally owl that's lazy is an owl that doesn't get its dinner. It is either a habit developed by not having to actually work for her food properly or natural behaviour for this individual that we may very well spread into the next generation not letting natural selection do it's thing. And the kicker is that we literally cannot tell which is which.
Being in captivity and in the wild are two entirely different states of being. Everyone who keeps animals knows this, even if they don't admit it.

@@troo_6656 I completely agree. I'm crazy about owls and it's a harmless interest because I live in a city and have absolutely no one one one training. I watch them when I can but love to study them. When they cannot take care of themselves or are imprinted on a human, then captivity is the best option.
I'm still crazy about them. If I can someday, I'd love to travel to one of the Northern Japanese islands where I would wait in a blind with other owl enthusiasts all night for a chance to photograph the one and only (bad hair day) Blackstone fisher owl. That would be my 'going to Disneyland' moment.
