  • Apologies for the duplicate links on this video, but it has taken some time to fix the audio as much as possible. This is the final version I will be uploading of the talk.
    Slide deck can be downloaded here: www.silver-lin...
    Due to popular demand, here is the full unedited version of my talk at the Tesla Owners Club Norway Anniversary event. This is the info that is publicly available up until now. It also contains a lot of informations that needs to be repeated about the UNECE and how they operate and why certain countries are or are not restricted in deploying FSD.
    This week the GRVA are meeting again to talk about the latest additions (and hopefully won't accept them). As soon as the information is published I will make an updated video with more details.

    Great work you are doing. Maybe doing a 15min summary vid pictures and better sound 🇸🇪🙌

    Thanks Steven, could you elaborate on the difference of what can and cannot be done on a Model ≡ Highland without sensors. Just got our new LR AWD and we have (even the basic) Summon anymore, nor does the car seem to exit the highway on NoA any longer…?!?

      @@michelrusso192 It’s all depending on the software version and changes over time. There is no different regulation. So that is purely on Tesla if there are things not working (yet)

    Will be interesting to see what they do for sensor redundancy and cleaning on the robo taxi. While I do believe that the current FSD would work very well here in northern Norway during summer the other season not so much as we salt the roads and cameras get fouled in a couple of km.

      @@StevenPeeters yeah no rain and no snow like we have here for 6 months. But here we have no highways and almost no traffic lights, absolutely no Stop signs (Only yield) and lots of roundabouts. And quite bad road quality. And I know that Belgium also has some rain as I went to Spa-Franchorchamps once and it was raining quite a lot😅 Great presentation and a good insight into the regulations that we have. The fact that they only have 3 real meetings a year for a technology that is being developed at high pace really shows how over regulation can limit progress and safety (Similar to light regulation in the US preventing Matrix/Adaptive lights). While having a common base to verify and certify cars is important the regulation should not impose strict guidelines for how to achieve it or if you have that they need to follow up continuously to update and stay ahead of the technology. Now for Tesla having the possibility to improve and perfect its approach in the US might force the hand of other countries and UNECE. As a side note, UNECE should rather look at guidelines to assure a common communication between self driving cars as a instant feedback of road conditions and traffic hazards like animals in the roads or inattentive humans driving the car themselves.

    It’s up to Tesla to either improve the software in Europe according to the current rules like Kia, BMW or Mercedes already proved. I mean there are people waiting for improvements for 7 years although they paid for autonomous driving!
    Tesla doesn’t care at all.
    And another option for Tesla would be the road shown by other car manufacturers, special permission! Granted you have to do that for each country separately but then again, people paid for certain features in Europe and Tesla doesn’t seem to care at all ;)

      Kia, BMW or Mercedes have software that is 10 years behind Tesla. You have a lot to learn before you can comment on the subject.

      @@ichigo19870 they do offer the technology in some countries as you can see, but as he mentions in the Q&A section European manufacturers are also unhappy with the current regulations and want it to change. Tesla doesn’t want to limit their current development to adhere to the regulations, but if they would the would be able to match the others. It would require separate software stack and lots of extra applications to get it approved, thus the rather focus on getting what they are doing up to a level where they can get it approved in Europe. I never bought FSD because I have a rule of thumb that is don’t buy unfinished and unavailable Software based on a promise (okay I have broken this rule for some games bought in Early Access).

    • @ichigo19870
      @ichigo19870 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@Steinegal Of course, I have the EAP package myself, I know why Tesla doesn't offer new features here. Sure, because they want to simplify it with one stack, thats the goal. The main reason still is, cost! It costs a lot of time and money to get things approved in Europe other manufacturers go that way because they wanna offer more functions. Tesla on the other hand doesn't care, they keep charging you for things that they know wont be available in the near future. It's actually scandalous behaviour but as there is still many people falling for it they see no reason to change their tactic.
      I would even go as far as to say that Tesla might be happy about the outcome of the UNECE because then they can blame them again and dont have to do anything for their customers.

    • @Steinegal
      @Steinegal 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@ichigo19870 yeah that is true taking money and not delivering anything is a great thing for Tesla and is why when I help people order new Tesla’s I always warn them not to buy FSD (or EAP as we have no highways in the north) and that they won’t miss anything because if it is released here they can buy it afterwards or subscribe.

    Regulation is necessary. Like regulations for example about developing software for medical devices. But I can assure you, the rules are not as over-specific as they are for cars.
    Medical Device regs do not limit how fast x or y has to work, or which acceleration is allowed for spinning up a pump etc. They make sure the company must have tested it, risk assessed it, have reasonable data to support that, followed industry standard where possible etc, and if in doubt the auditors can deny the product or demand a change to the product or process.
    This entire process is a perfect example of overregulation where some people that meet very rarely and have no actual implementation experience are somehow made kings on how to make a product that is safe and enjoyable to use by customers.

      As I mentioned. The UNECE has a great goal at its core: to jeep the rosds safe. But the lack of progress over 5 years is just ridiculous

    •  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@StevenPeeters So do the regulatory bodies about medical device safety. Even more so in many respects. But the approach is quite different.

    • @teodortomter
      @teodortomter 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can still compare their approach, even if the fields are different, their goals are the same. Over regulation kills innovation.

    • @ichigo19870
      @ichigo19870 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@teodortomter No you can't acually. There has been a lot of experience in the medical field regarding technology, autonomous driving on the other hand is pretty much new, there is almost no data to get to a certain conclusion. Sure Europe could take the American approach and just say "fu** it, let's do it" but we have always taken steps a little slower which is ok when it comes to peoples lives. I wouldn't wanna gamble with it.
      And so what if we would wait 2-3 years to actually implement FSD here. What is the rush? Who actually cares about it? Definitely not the people of the European countries as most of them are not even aware of FSD. So yeah, for now we keep having jobs for taxi drivers, if that is so bad and makes us technologically behind then so be it.
      I really dont get why there is a minority of people dooming us just because we cant use Teslas glorified assistant that isn't even autonomous :D
