Had my Bestbuy configuration x17 for a few weeks now and I love it for the reasons you mentioned. It really is my home laptop that I use at my desk or couch. I use a ASUS G14 with the 3060 for my work laptop that I tote around in my backpack daily.

I went even further back with the Alienware M17X from 2009 as my first ever Alienware laptop. Great machine, until I sold it 2 years later. Ever since I wanted to get another much newer model. Currently waiting for my new X15! :)
Although I don’t own ones, I can tell this is an honest review and fair evaluation. My M15 R6 with same specs is on his way to me. I got it as a Black Friday deal for $2100 Canadian. Before purchasing that, I’ve watched nearly all reviews about Alienware M series and a few about X’s. You video helped me set up the right expectation about Alienware and realize the competitions are out there. There are better performing laptops in the market which we can get for similar price range, but I haven’t seen one that pleases me with a reasonable mix of performance and aesthetics. They either go extremely high profile on the RGB feature (which I find tacky after looking at it for long) or not quite hitting the technician benchmarks and brand name influence. I’ll be getting M15 R6 next week and see how it goes. I think I’ll like and keep it. Thanks for you videos. Been watching you for a while.
I changed from my alienewre M15 R6 to an X17 and I got to say it's a massive improvement thermally, I was thermal throttling on the R6 at over 100 degrees, where as I sit at late 60s to low 70s on the X 17, CPU wise this is
Great review! You included a lot of things about usability day to day that I’ve seen left out in other reviews. Just my 2 cents here, but the Rx16 ram sticks that this laptop ships with really hurts it’s performance. Also, creating a custom battery profile can help with your battery life, basically setting the fan curve to what you think is good(modified battery saver fan config) and changing the overclock to the end of the green area in the slider. I’ve seen about 5-7 hours of screen on time with my config, and as a thermal and performance boost, I’ve been experimenting with the Intel XTU software to under-volt my processor and gpu, so far I’ve seen about 4-10 fps jumps depending on the game. Also, doom eternal and a few other games seem to need updates to the graphic card drivers at the moment, as the current drivers cap fps to 30 with no solution as of yet(it says that Nvidia is working on a patch).
Did they ever come out with that patch? I just purchased the x17 and I'm thinking of returning it for a Zephyrus g14 2002 for the portability and better optimization for the much lower price.
@@willrueb9573 So far it's been great, all of the drivers are patched now, but you're asking the wrong person about portability. I normally use a MacBook Pro with bootcamp for normal needs and only use the X17 for gaming/heavy CAD work or baseline particle simulation.

I would like to see more contrast from the display. This laptop has 910:1. While that is okay for general use, this is an expensive device and my laptop from 2013 about 700ish dolars having 975:1 contrast says something.
Thanks for your comprehensive review! Could you please mention if, in order to improve the battery life, you have undervolted the CPU, reduced brightness, adjusted power options, turned off some RGB features etc.? Some of those should bring significant improvements.
things i was kinda disappointed about the X17, they had all that extra space at the bottom and could've easily been a 16:10 instead of the normal 16:9, as a desktop replacement, i don't really like the fact that it doesn't have a num pad but you can use a separate keyboard for that, smooth glass trackpad but could've improved on the size and the io placement. for the io, its annoying if your the type of person to get up every time and has to continuously move around and taking out the cables cos you gotta reach over and do it. the speakers. they arent the best but you prob wont mind if you mainly use headphones. and lastly, perhaps the most annoying part is the secondary key with no back lighting. even on the r2 lmao
@@Oldylocks you don't need to go into bios you can access it through Nvidia control panel and switch between the integrated graphics and Nvidia graphics 🙂
@@craigjones9558 I tried that the first time and still suffered from stuttering. I went into the BIOS and noticed the switch still said “Enabled” even though I disabled it in the NVIDIA controls.
@@Oldylocks Ah cool thanks for the heads up, I'm luckily not suffering from stutters but if I can get a couple of extra frames out of this, then It maybe worth disabling
@@Oldylocks the stutter is probably from the ram, my laptop has this issue, and swapping the ram solved the issue. I also found that driver updates drastically increased my performance. High power mode always helps, though I still think the ram is the issue.

Mine is arriving in 2 weeks, upgraded from the 2015 17 inch Alienware. Exciting times !
The speakers can be easily fixed if you tighten the chassis and play with the sound settings abit

This is the best looking laptop in the game. A body SHINee looking red skin for it that makes it look like a red spaceship. On eBay.
The new revision is out and they didn't fix anything lol. They actually took stuff away like the rgb touchpad.
Not sure why Dell will not do a 13R3 refresh. With razer's 14 and Asus G14 the market is there.

how was your advance optimus experience with this laptop? do you think it worth using?
So if I disable Advanced Optimus, my game wont stutter mid gun fight? Just got mine today and i was convinced Destiny was the issue
