when david started talking about that situation and how he felt like he let everyone down and how incredibly heartbroken everyone was, i couldn't help but cry bc although my past isn't as intense as david's, i've been trying so incredibly hard to change and improve myself as a whole. i get so angry and depressive and used to have a lot of angry meltdowns yet bc i've been trying so hard to improve whenever i do slip up, it feels as if the entire world is crashing down on me and i feel like a major letdown. it breaks my heart.

I really enjoy these and I think I'll be following you for a while into the future, solely based on your overall character and how you deal with problems as you develop as a human being throughout life. One thing I can highly, HIGHLY recommend is for you and Mariel to watch both seasons of Clannad (It's not that long, 24 half an hour episodes for each season). Its theme revolves heavily around family and friends and I think you'll both love it, especially you man. Oh and don't prepare any tissues cause you'll eventually run out of tears anyways. LMAO
Hi David, thanks for this video. This episode really hits home for me. My father is a pastor, and he and my mom left everything in Korea (their status, their new home, and their entire family) so that he could go to divinity school to follow God's calling. When he first started out, he pastored all-caucasian churches within the Methodist conference. But a couple of years into ministry, he got an opportunity to pastor a Korean church. Being Korean, my parents (especially my dad) were pretty excited. Here was a church where they could comfortably speak their native tongue, enjoy homemade food, and fellowship with other immigrants. Man, we were so wrong that it makes hell look like heaven... I met my boyfriend at that church (which might be the only redeeming quality about this experience). His dad was initially incredibly helpful and sweet to our family, and my dad decided to make him into an elder. The church really needed some more upright leaders. But as soon as he got the elder title, he went on this power trip and single handedly decided that my parents weren't good enough. He and his wife started telling lies about my dad and that my mom was pushing people to come to bible study (wtf?). They dictated what my mom could wear, say, and do. They hated the sermons because they focused too much on the scriptures. They tore down decorations that my mom put in bathrooms because it was TOO BIBLICAL. At a church. They ended up standing my dad in front of the entire congregation and criticized him of everything that he's done wrong and how worthless he is. They kicked him, my mom, and their self-worth out of the door. Michael and I are still going strong, but he has sacrificed talking to his family for almost 2 years now. To this day, we still get phone calls from his dad saying how horrible we are and that "we're not going to get away with it." Honestly, it's just funny at this point. I wanted to thank you for shedding light on the broken nature of the immigrant church. This problem is pervasive within our community, and unfortunately, there is no end in sight.

Omg I totally got how you felt about trying not to kill someone. And how your dealing with your emotions more now. I used to use humor as a mask and pushed all my emotions down (still do sometimes) but when I tried being emotional it was like the dam broke and I cry about everything. I went from being “heartless” (what my friends used to call me) to a freaking waterfall. My friends say it’s good, but there not the ones crying when someone sings you happy birthday. TF! Keep healing man!

BTW, pls speak more Japanese with Mariel I fking love it, I cry laughing. If you want to get better at Japanese I really recommend the Genki and Tobira textbooks. I use these in college rn, and I've reached a pretty good conversational level in speaking, and a good enough level of reading to get by. Although I do study at least an hour a day which is hard to do if you are outside of a school setting.
