This is so crazy how people all over the world ended up doing similar things. There's whistling languages in Greece and all the way across off of Africa with El Silbo language.
Same thing in indigenous regions in Mexico Fantastic how two different and cultures far from each other used the same way to communicate on long distances !
I've traveled the internet far and wide and have yet to see a more interesting video than this one. Amazingly made and fascinating information. Note that keeping this language alive is akin to Jews keeping Hebrew back to life and spreading it.
i came around this because i heard there is also a village in turkey that performs the same thing and was suprised. I guess its just shepherds being shepherds. Here in greek its quite old infact they are considered the last remaining language that was passed from the Spartans and was untouched during the roman and ottoman empire thanks to each location. Edit: seems like people in mexico also do this
😒 I’d confuse it with “bird song”. Birds’ll think their territory is being invaded and next thing you know youll have kamikaze birds diving at you and your car is covered in bird poop😒
Same happens in Black Sea Turkiye since these so called Greeks are also from that part of Anatolia, Pontus Greeks they were once and there are Islamized Greeks or Turks or Laz who mixed with these Greeks. That whistle language is also in world heritage and I really think the heavily mountanious terrain Black Sea coast has led to this whistle language not relatively flat Hellas/Greece.
It’s literally based upon the Greek language. Can you people try not to steal our culture and history for a single day? Also Greece is extremely mountainous. You are clueless.
Awesome to see this in other parts of the world, in Mexico the Chinantec people also have a whistled language there is a video called " whistles in the mist" on you tube i think
I'm Greek born and raised in Greece and it is the first time I come across this information. We whistle when we have fun, when we party, when we applaud emphatically. Older men use to whistle melodies of songs they like all the time. It is only rude to whistle when you want to get attention, like for example to pay the bill at a restaurant. Other than that it is definitely not considered bad luck.
In another video about them they mention how the avoid the Greek language because if you stop using the whistle it makes it harder to do due to the muscles in your jaw changing
They should sue twitter.
Absolutely ❤️

Interesting considering whistling is generally frowned upon in Greek culture. It's considered unlucky.
Is it? I didn't get that memo
Maybe it's a regional thing
