    Oh thank goodness for this. I have a ic-705 , a ic-9700 and an ic-7300 and have been struggling to get good settings on my waterfalls. The manuals are rubbish for noobs like myself so this is a game changer for me thank you again

    Hey, great video, Hayden! I had my 705 set up already almost exactly the way that you've got, with a couple of the numbers being off by one - I had even set up the exact same band edges. One main difference is that enable the 10sec max hold time. Having that signal peak ghost left there after someone stops transmitting somewhere else on the band helps me get right on frequency and ready for when they call again.

    • @HamRadioDX
      @HamRadioDX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good tip Max. I think I might reestablish the max hold too as I did find it handy. Thanks for the comment glad to hear you're enjoying your radio too.

    • @ferdinandfrozenstein
      @ferdinandfrozenstein 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same here, I have started to use max hold...It stays there even when the waterfall rolls out. Fixed edges, or even better with scroll mode, it's actually an usable waterfall. Mamy stations need to learn here.

    Great video. Would you believe, I set up my display exactly as you do. All the settings are identical. When you did the walkthrough, I was waiting for a different setting but I did not see one. I spent a lot of time to optimize the way it works and functionality and happen to set up mine just like you did. I wonder how many other hams are close to these settings? I use a 7300 right now, have been watching 7610 videos including yours and am going to hit the order button in about 5 minutes, exciting. I cannot wait for a radio with dual receivers! Currently, I have a PTRX-7300 panadapter added into my 7300 with an SDRPlay RSP2PRO connected. I have a new RSPDUO here on the desk still in the box! Going to integrate it with the new rig when it gets here. Thanks again, 73, Dan AB5VJ

    The BIG problem is that Ref setting depends on a hudge amount on bandwith setting if we want the same background appearance. Would be wise ICOM relates both so that display is consistent.

    I run...
    10s hold (but i also reduce the hold colour so it's not blaring on screen)
    Carrier Point Centre(Abs Freq) (this should be default, we as hams should be well aware of what part of the spectrum we're using regardless of mode)
    VBW Narrow
    Averaging 2
    Waveform Fill + Line
    Waveform Colour Current - 255 Green
    Waveform Colour Line - 255 Red
    Waveform Colour Max hold - 32/32/32 a nice dim grey, enough to not be annoying but also enough to show a signal was there in the last 10s
    Waterfall on
    Speed Mid
    Size Expand Screen Mid
    Peak Colour - Grid 2
    Marker Auto Hide - on
    As for fixed edges - I use...
    7.000 - 7.040 for CW
    7.040 - 7.080 for digital
    7.080 - 7.200 for SSB (7.200 - 7.300 is useless generally)
    And i do similar for the other bands.
    I din;t use fix much, it's good for finding sigs way up or down the band, but the waterfall lacks customization to help with the massive noise floor i have here.
    Side note, i wish Icom would permit proper customization instead of picking from preset 'grids'.

    Great video. Just got an email that mine is "close" to shipping. Look forward to using your videos to get going. I may have missed it, but what type of antenna(s) are you using?

    • @HamRadioDX
      @HamRadioDX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kevin. I'm using a End Fed Half Wave antenna for 80-10m (it tunes without a tuner on 80/40). I need to do a video on it as I need to tweak 20m a little better. On 6m/2m/70cm I'm using a Diamond V2000 vertical.

    I am a new 705 owner. How can the rig be useful in seeing weak signals (right near the noise floor as in vhf weak signal work) when the vertical range is 80 db? The display needs to be able to expand the range, to cover only 10-20 db vertically. I had hoped to see vhf tropo openings, or search for power line noise using the noise floor as an indication. Vy disappointed. Will probably sell.

    What is the satellite icon on your screen?

    • @HamRadioDX
      @HamRadioDX  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the IC-705 it has a built in GPS receiver... the little satellite icon stops blinking once it acquires a lock and you can view your location, height, grid square from the radio screen plus output GPS timing from the USB if you need.
